Rediscovering: Living Sacrifice The Original Trilogy Jun 03, 2024

Living Sacrifice has had one of the largest impacts on Christian Metal out of any band that I can think of. Originating in the late 1980's and early 1990's Living Sacrifice released a trilogy of albums that explored the extremity of Thrash and Death Metal and they would go on to influence countless bands as well as set the band up to transition into one of the most popular metalcore bands in the Christian music scene as well as metal at large. Rediscovering Why Christian Music is Frustrating May 13, 2024

I've been a fan of Christian Metal for well over 20 years, and while I would still consider myself a strong supporter of the scene, over the years there have been certain frustrations and disappointments that have come along with it. In this episode I want to boil those frustrations down into 5 main things that get on my nerves. I have tried to be as intentional as possible not to outright name names because my intention isn't to attack anyone, but just to provide an honest critique of the pitfalls of the Christian Music Industry.

The Bizarre History of Embodyment Apr 04, 2024

In 1998 the band Embodyment released an album called Embrace the Eternal that expertly combined Death Metal and early Metalcore, and then they suddenly changed their entire sound seemingly overnight. Rediscovering: Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park Feb 26, 2024

Linkin Park's debut album changed everything for Nu Metal and Hard Rock in the early 2000's. By introducing harder elements in a more digestible and family friendly package, Linkin Park was able to establish a much larger install base of fans than their contemporaries at the time. In this video I share my memories of hearing Linkin Park for the first time, go over every song on Hybrid Theory, and discuss the impact that Linkin Park had on teenagers in the year 2000 and beyond.

Rediscovering: Undeceived by Extol May 21, 2023

After taking a relaxing tropical vacation I came back home to the midwest with an unexpected craving for Norwegian Death Metal, and when it comes to death metal there’s always one band that always satisfies that hunger, the band that got me into death metal in the first place and that is the mighty Extol with their second album Undeceived. I talk about how hard it was to find extreme Christian music online in the VERY early 2000’s and confess that despite hearing thousands of death metal albums since hearing Undeceived that it still remains one of the greatest albums ever made.

As a small child, being taught about the darker side of spirituality (Hell, demons, Judgment, Satan, fire, eternal spiritual death) had the unintended side effect of me becoming very interested in Death Metal and other forms of extreme music in my teens all the way till today.
