Rediscovering: Brainchild by Circle of Dust Sep 10, 2023

Show notes

This week I welcome Roach Koach host Matt Naas to the podcast as we dig into Circle of Dust’s 1994 album Brainchild, or where I come from 1992’s debut album Mindwarp by Brainchild. Matt and I talk about Industrial music in the early 90’s and how Matt feels Brainchild stacks up to hits contemporaries at the time. I bring up how early childhood church going influenced my obsession with “scary” extreme Christian music.

Rediscovering: It Hates You by He Is Legend Sep 03, 2023

Show notes

This week on the podcast I decided to dig into an album by a band who I thought I didn’t like, but upon hearing this album I realized that this band fully represented how I felt during some of my most pivotal years of early adulthood.

Rediscovering: The Thoughtless Existence by End of Destiny Aug 27, 2023

Show notes

This week on the podcast I decided to talk about the ultimate time capsule and that is my band End of Destiny’s 2006 album The Thoughtless Existence. An often overlooked record, but a record that I put so much of myself into at the time that its hard not to reflect on everything that happened during its writing and recording and what it meant to me all those years ago.

Rediscovering: Hammer of God by Mortification Aug 20, 2023

Show notes

This week on the podcast I’m digging into a record that I can admit is not objectively a great record, but give me the next 38 minutes to try and convince you why it was a super important record for me. I talk about discovering Mortification in highschool and how I didn’t love them at first but over time came to appreciate Steve Rowe’s dedication to his artistic convictions.

Daniel Weyandt of Zao joins me this week as we explore a handful of my favorite songs from 2016’s The Well-Intentioned Virus. Rediscovering: Wrongdoers by Norma Jean Jun 04, 2023

Show notes

Sometimes its easy to get caught up on our own ambition. To put so much pride and time into something that ultimately will just end up breaking down and decaying in the end. No album has illustrated that concept to me more times than Wrongdoers by Norma Jean. An album that highlights the flaws in humanity that leads to our lack of perspective and can ultimately lead us to live unsatisfying lives. Join me as I dig into Wrongdoers to try and make sense of how this album makes me feel.

Rediscovering: Terminus by Circle Back May 28, 2023

Show notes

Sometimes you will hear a record that stops you dead in your tracks. The kind of record that seems to be calling you out for all of your faults but has the decency to inspire you to do better. Circle Back’s Terminus is a record that not only provided value to me during the first listen, but continued to bring new understanding and new value 4 years after hearing it for the first time.

Rediscovering: Undeceived by Extol May 21, 2023

Show notes

After taking a relaxing tropical vacation I came back home to the midwest with an unexpected craving for Norwegian Death Metal, and when it comes to death metal there’s always one band that always satisfies that hunger, the band that got me into death metal in the first place and that is the mighty Extol with their second album Undeceived. I talk about how hard it was to find extreme Christian music online in the VERY early 2000’s and confess that despite hearing thousands of death metal albums since hearing Undeceived that it still remains one of the greatest albums ever made.

Show notes

This week I'm throwing a curveball as I decided to invite my brother on the podcast for a long overdue conversation about the role music played in our lives growing up and we discuss how much we musically diverge from the same origin point.
