HALLOWEEN: THE REVENGE OF LAURIE STRODE (with Grady Hendrix) Oct 31, 2022
    Show notes

On this brand new episode of the Development Hell podcast, New York Times bestselling author Grady Hendrix (My Best Friend’s Exorcism) joins host Josh Korngut to uncover the never-made HALLOWEEN sequel: THE REVENGE OF LAURIE STRODE. Before H20, Dimension Studios hired Kevin Williamson to usher HALLOWEEN into the fast-paced world of post-SCREAM horror. And who better for the job than the SCREAM and I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER scribe himself? THE REVENGE OF LAURIE STRODE treatment written by Williamson would provide the general foundation for H20’s plot, but the story itself still stands on its own as an interesting cancelled HALLOWEEN sequel. Grady Hendrix also talks about his upcoming horror novel The Final Girl Support Group (out July 13th via Berkley Books). The novel follows a community of middle-aged women who are murdered one by one, years after surviving their initial horrifying ordeals. Lastly, Josh and Grady also dig up the dirt on several other cancelled franchise entries like HALLOWEEN H2K, HALLOWEEN 3000, HALLOWEEN RETRIBUTION, and even MICHAELMYERSDOTCOM. FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S [Updates] Oct 11, 2022
    Show notes

Get ready kids, we’re headed back to Freddy’s.

On the second Updates episode, Development Hell host Josh Korngut delivers exciting news on a well-loved previously covered topic: FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S

FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S started off as a tiny 2014 indie video game and has become an internet empire.

The original game concerned a nighttime security guard working at a children’s birthday palace/pizza restaurant. Over the course of the night, you’re forced to defend yourself from murderous sentient animatronic characters.

In 2017 Blumhouse signed on to adapt the series into a feature film. After years of waiting, there's finally been an important update on the highly anticipated adaptation. Listen to find out more.

ORPHAN: FIRST KILL (with director William Brent Bell) Aug 16, 2022
    Show notes

While Development Hell usually unearths horror movies that never got made, occasionally we unpack how indie films actually make it to the finish line. We do this by picking the brains of some of the most exciting voices in horror. Today host Josh Korngut logs on with filmmaker Willam Brent Bell to discuss his new film ORPHAN: FIRST KILL. A prequel to the 2009 Dark Castle Entertainment horror classic ORPHAN, Bell's new film stars Julia Stiles and Isabelle Furhman.

In the film, "Esther's terrifying saga continues in this thrilling prequel to the original and shocking horror hit Orphan. After orchestrating a brilliant escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility, Esther travels to America by impersonating the missing daughter of a wealthy family. Yet, an unexpected twist arises that pits her against a mother who will protect her family from the murderous 'child' at any cost."

You can watch ORPHAN FIRST KILL through limited theatrical release, video on demand, and on Paramount+, on August 19, 2022.

    Show notes

Summer is here and with it comes CAMP IS CANCELLED, the new limited audio series from the Development Hell podcast. Every Tuesday in July we are unearthing a yet unmade 'Friday the 13th' sequel.

For the third of our four CAMP IS CANCELLED chapters we unearth Damian Shannon and Mark Swift's follow-up to the 2009 Platinum Dunes reboot, 'Friday the 13th: Camp Blood — The Death of Jason Voorhees'. After the studio cycled through multiple scripts, they turned back to Shannon and Swift, who had previously written the reboot as well as 'Freddy Vs. Jason'. In 2017 the writers took to Twitter to share that their unmade film would finally take Jason into the snow.
