Tooooooooo much of true crime is centered around America – New York murder this and Chicago Killer that. What about the Delhi Dons and Karachi killers and Bangladeshi Burglars?! If you are tired of the the same-old American murderer, British killer, Australian kidnapper, Canadian stalker… NO MORE! The Desi Crime Podcast brings DESI crimes. From India, Pakistan, Nepal and other brown communities, we’ll bring you cases that can only be described as Desi. Crimes that take place in the Indian subcontinent aren’t remotely similar to Western crimes— desi crimes are gory, complicated, corrupt and hardly documented. After thorough research on the most sinister cases, we’ll take you on a bumpy, jaw dropping ride around South Asia.
Crime is a popular genre in India. CID was watched by boomers, John Grisham was read by millennials, and now, The Desi Crime Podcast is there for Gen Z.

69. The Unsolved Case of Nadia Malik - USA Jan 14, 2023

Show notes

A murder involves a murderer, the murdered, a murder weapon and more often than not, a motive. This template is true for most cases covered on our podcast, and on any true crime podcast for that matter. But where there is a rule, there is an exception. The case we have for you today is one such exception. This case has a murder, but no murder weapon, no motive, and no murderer. This is the story of a 22 year old girl that shook the city of Philadelphia, this is the story of Nadia Malik.

67. The Murder of Jessica Lal - India Dec 16, 2022

Show notes

When in 1999, the body of a beautiful 34 year old model and celebrity bartender was found lying on the floor of the fancy Tamarind Court restaurant in Mehrauli in New Delhi, with a clear bullet wound to her head, her family and the cops thought this was an open and shut case. This was a party of 300 some people, after all. Someone has to have seen someone, someone will come forward. There should’ve been no dearth of evidence in the case at all. And 7 years after the crime, the verdict was out. The Times of India printed the verdict on the front page of their February 22’ 2006 paper. “No one killed Jessica”. This is the story of that night in 1999 when Jessica Lal was killed, yet somehow nobody killed her. This is the story of Jessica Lal.

66. The Tale of Toyah Cordingley - Australia/India Dec 10, 2022

Show notes

Any “Travel to Australia” advertisement on television displays stills of the Great Barrier Reef and pearl white beaches. Volleyball, tank tops, scantily clothed and sizzlingly tanned bodies can be found frolicking around. But on 22nd October 2018, a body was found in one such Australian beach. The difference was, this wasn’t a tanned person frolicking around. In fact, this body did not appear to move at all. This is the story of the day that redefined the 'beach' for residents of Queensland, Australia; this is the story of Toyah Cordingley.

Every now and then, in this country of a booming billion, a crime occurs that captures the attention of the nation. Every now and then, one crime is what everyone can talk about – from conversations over the 2 rupee tea at the roadside chai wala to conversations over a sugar infused diabetes inducing drink at starbucks: one story cuts across caste, class, and creed. In 2021, that story was the Madanapalle Double Murder, and 2022 just found its story as well. This is the story of what went down, allegedly, in a small apartment in Mehrauli’s Chatarpur area; this is the story of Shraddha Walkar and Aftab Amin Poonawala.
