Tooooooooo much of true crime is centered around America – New York murder this and Chicago Killer that. What about the Delhi Dons and Karachi killers and Bangladeshi Burglars?! If you are tired of the the same-old American murderer, British killer, Australian kidnapper, Canadian stalker… NO MORE! The Desi Crime Podcast brings DESI crimes. From India, Pakistan, Nepal and other brown communities, we’ll bring you cases that can only be described as Desi. Crimes that take place in the Indian subcontinent aren’t remotely similar to Western crimes— desi crimes are gory, complicated, corrupt and hardly documented. After thorough research on the most sinister cases, we’ll take you on a bumpy, jaw dropping ride around South Asia.
Crime is a popular genre in India. CID was watched by boomers, John Grisham was read by millennials, and now, The Desi Crime Podcast is there for Gen Z.

Show notes

Love triangles…a concept in existence for as long as love itself. But love triangles, unlike love, are controversial. They’re viewed as scandalous, calculated, and deceptive. Perhaps that is because we never hear of happy, successful love triangles. We hear of ones where jealousy, competition, ego and possessiveness take over, only to end in a tale of crime and disaster. This is the story of one such disastrous love triangle that kept India on its toes and destroyed three lives. This is the story of Neeraj Grover, Maria Susairaj, and Lt. Emile Jerome Mathew.

Show notes

Imagine living in a beautiful, peaceful city in India. Life is going well. You have friends, a city you call home, you go to the movies on the weekends, maybe a family lunch date every now and then. Until, one day, you find the movie halls empty, people in their houses before sundown, terror in the eyes of every passerby, and fear in the hearts of thousands furious to lock their doors and windows before going to bed. This was what happened to the beautiful and peaceful city of Pune in 1976 because of a murderous rampage that did not seem to end. This is the story of the four men behind that horrifying murderous rampage. This is the story of the Joshi-Abhyankar serial murders.

86. The Toffee Serial Killer: Ravinder Kumar - India May 13, 2023

Show notes

“Don’t take candies from strangers.” How simple a teaching; how elegant. But how difficult for a child to resist a sugary delight; an alpenlibe or melody offered to you for free that to before dinner. Which 6 year old could say no? Had this lesson not been inscribed in our head, we too could’ve fallen for this scheme. If you now think how stupid some kids might be to fall prey to this modus operandi of kidnapping, keep in mind, you’re the same person that once upon a time believed in Santa Claus and tooth fairies. This is the story of the man that bitterly exploited the sweet tooth of children, this is the story of Delhi’s Ravinder Kumar.

One cardiovascular aberration after another. Stroke after stroke. Heart attacks galore in the Thomas household. 1 anomaly is understandable. But 4, that’s a bit much. Especially when the patients are in their 40s and 50s. And then appears out of thin air, a will, that allegedly of Tom Thomas. Almost as if it was conjured by someone who would benefit from it. Rojo Thomas believed that that ‘someone’ was none other than the newly appointed matriarch of the Thomas household – Jolly Amma Joseph. But why would Jolly, a beloved member of the pink poonamattam palace be involved in this charade? Was this a plot against her? Or, was everything a plot by her long before anyone even laid a suspicious eye on her? Welcome back, to part 2 of the jarring story of Jolly Joseph.

What’s in a name? Astrologers would argue 2 syllables might entail your entire destiny, such is the power of a name. But what if your life is the exact opposite of what your name suggests. Our protagonist today bears such a name. Her name is Jolly. Jolly Joseph. One of her neighbors went on record to say “Jolly seemed like the perfect woman to us.” If you didn’t know any more about this, you’d assume that praising a person in a true crime podcast implies that they are the victim, or soon to be victim. Here you have a pretty girl, everyone loves her, and her name means. But I urge you to keep aside your preconceived notions for this episode. This is the story that till date shakes Kerelaites to their core; this is the story of Jolly Amma Joseph.
