We are officially 41 games in! The midpoint!

The Denver Nuggets are 29-12 at the halfway mark of the season, and the entire stretch of 41 games has taught the world about just how great and interesting this team can be. Nikola Jokic is a superstar. Jamal Murray has his flashes. Michael Porter Jr. has brought something new.

The Denver Stiffs Show - M P J Dozier is a thing now Jan 16, 2020

Show notes

As soon as Jamal Murray went down with an injured ankle in front of the Charlotte Hornets bench on Wednesday night, Pepsi Center went into a hush with some frantic whispers. The Denver Nuggets being without their point guard could potentially be dire, on top of Denver's other significant injuries. By the end of the game though, it was Denver's two rookies who provided some relief.

Yes, Michael Porter Jr. had those expectations, but P.J. Dozier did not. The South Carolina product played his ninth career game on Wednesday night and filled in admirably off the bench. That was the story of Denver's 100-86 win over Charlotte.

In this episode, Ryan Blackburn and Brandon Ewing discuss the game, Denver's rotation going forward, and where the Nuggets currently stand within the Western Conference. Can they be a title contender? Do they need a trade or two to get there?

Nuggets Numbers - The positive numbers behind Denver's rotation Jan 14, 2020

Show notes

As the Denver Nuggets approach the midway point, statistical projections have begun to appear less like conjecture and more like fact. The Nuggets, ranked 7th in Offensive Rating and 13th in Defensive Rating, are taking shape as one of the main powers in the Western Conference to match LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, and the supposed juggernaut teams in Los Angeles.

To begin, I shared five statistical tidbits that help the Nuggets even the playing field with these other teams, including winning percentages, Michael Porter Jr.'s growth, and more.

Then, I delved into the weeds of lineup ratings, first starting with Denver's best units overall and working my way toward Denver's best units offensively. How does Denver score with Nikola Jokic off the floor? Where does Jerami Grant fit in? Can Michael Porter Jr. really play down the stretch?

All that and more in this episode.

Nuggets Numbers - Western Conference All-Stars Jan 10, 2020

Show notes

Surprise! A bonus episode of Nuggets Numbers is here for your listening pleasure. In this episode, I go over the Western Conference All-Star picture and discuss which players deserve the nod and which players are on the outside looking in.

I started with a Twitter experiment in which I asked people to send me their All-Star ballots to frame the exercise. Some players were unanimous, but some decisions were too close to call.

After that, I shared my personal All-Star ballot, including the debate between Nikola Jokic and Kawhi Leonard for the third starter spot, whether the Utah Jazz deserve two All-Stars, and whether any of Karl-Anthony Towns, Russell Westbrook, Rudy Gobert, or Devin Booker are left out of the game.

The Denver Stiffs Show - Ice water in Nikola Jokic's veins Jan 09, 2020

Show notes

Well, he did it. Again.

With the game on the line and the Nuggets down one, Nikola Jokic beat the mismatch in the post and hit and shot in the paint with eight seconds left. That proved to be the difference in Denver's victory against the Dallas Mavericks.

Jokic continues to showcase his mettle as an elite closer, so Jena Garcia, Zach Mikash, and Nikola Jokic talked about him at length. First, they discussed Wednesday night's game winner versus Dallas. Next, they ranked his seven game winners in the last two years. Finally, the trio discussed Denver's most important players in a playoff series that are on the roster.
