405 Relationship Management with Dino Watt : Dentistry Uncensored with Howard Farran May 26, 2016
    Show notes

    Dino's Story:

In 2006, as an award winning business mentor, Dino's life was changed with one simple question asked by a client couple. This couple was feeling the stress of their business in their marriage. After Dino had helped them create specific systems that helped them work better in their business, the clients asked if Dino had a program that would help them in their marriage, the same way it helped in their business. That was the beginning of The Business of Marriage.

Five years later, in a true full circle moment, a different client, a dentist and marriage men-tee, asked Dino if he had any systems that would help with the relationships in his office as well as the systems he had taught for their marriage.

The result was The CORE. Based upon the same skill set, systems and tools for successful marriages, Dino and his team create systems for success in the office. It is the only system in the world that focuses on helping all of the relationships in your life run at their ultimate performance.

404 Round Three with Michael DiTolla : Dentistry Uncensored with Howard Farran May 26, 2016
    Show notes

As a dentist who practices within the largest lab in the US, Dr. DiTolla has access to tens of thousands of doctor's preps and impressions on a monthly basis. As a result, he has an intimate knowledge of the common habits of the dentists getting the best restorative results. As a self-proclaimed "average dentist", he has developed techniques that provide exceptional restorative results with a very average set of hands. His mission is to share these techniques with dentists to help them improve their preps, impressions, and restorations. When dentists perform better restorative dentistry they are happier, more profitable, and most importantly, the patient receives excellent restorative dentistry.

Dr. DiTolla graduated from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in 1988. He was awarded his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 1995. He is a graduate of the Las Vegas Institute of Cosmetic Dentistry, and is also a clinical evaluator for CRA. From 2001 – 2006, he was an Instructor for PAC-Live's Live Patient Hands-on Veneer Course. He is the director of clinical affairs at Dentsply Sirona and is well known as one of dentistry's most entertaining and regaling speakers. With more than 20 years of experience, DiTolla has extensive experience with multiple CAD/CAM systems and technologies.

Referred to as one of dentistry's most entertaining speakers, Dr. DiTolla's blend of humor and entertainment keeps attendees awake and helps a day of education become much more pleasant. 403 Become a Dental Maverick! with Tuan Pham : Dentistry Uncensored with Howard Farran May 25, 2016
    Show notes

    About Dr. Tuan Pham:

I'm Dr. Tuan Pham and although I look like I've just graduated from dental school, I have 10 years of real life dental practice experience under my belt in saturated suburban Austin, TX. I love my job. I mean it. The nerdy part of myself loves the technicality and challenge of dentistry while the rest loves the results from success in skillful communication, staff management, and leadership.

What I love most about dentistry (besides providing myself with a great income and ample time for enjoying life) is simply chatting with patients. I know some of you might not like it, but trust me you should! Like any skill, it can be learned quite easily step-by-step. By learning and enjoying to chat, I create the relationship which allows me to easily build value and trust which translates to high treatment plan acceptances and ultimately the nerdy part of myself nerding out and doing dentistry the way I want! It's a positive feed cycle.

Believe it or not, but I did not always feel this way nor love the management and leadership part of dentistry. I used to be quiet, introverted, and just wanted to do dentistry and be left alone. But alas, I realized that I needed more patients to do the work! I realized that if I wanted to do work, I would require a higher volume of patients accepting my proposed treatment! This was my AH HA moment: I realized that being a great dentist involved more than just technical hand skills. If I wanted to be successful, then I must learn everything else including communication, leadership and staff management. I also realized that all these traditionally difficult things were actually very easy to learn because they could be learned in easy step-by-step sequences.

So now I package everything that I have learned in a 48 week series of easy to follow steps. I will teach you basic principles that translates to clear, easy steps on how to more effectively communicate with patients and staff, how to manage staff via four easy scenarios, how to lead and have vision and how you will become a Dental Maverick. You will create the destiny and dream that you have always wanted.

If you can learn how to move your hands to create smooth crown margins, then surely you can learn how to be a Dental Maverick. Once I had my epiphany, I quickly created my personal goal within a year: a 1.2 million dollar production office without write-offs from any PPO and working 32 hours a week seeing an average of 4 doctor patients a day and by the gym at 5:15 PM every day! All it takes is for you to commit, sign up and you will have access to everything that I have learned.

Now besides dentistry, I love to fly fish exclusively and watch college football. I'm a Longhorn, but oh boy is SEC football so good. Now see, don't you all feel like you know me already? See how being a communication ninja can build trust and thereby increase treatment plan acceptances?

402 Interactive iPad Integration with John Schwartz : Dentistry Uncensored with Howard Farran May 25, 2016
    Show notes

Dr. John Schwartz, CEO of Centric Notes:

Out of 120,000 dentists in the United States, Dr. John Schwartz is one of only four dentists that have also earned the title of Master Ceramist. A master ceramist is one who can construct the highest quality dental restorations. A master ceramist is a very skilled artisan that has many years of training in the art and science of cosmetic dentistry, including ceramic and dental porcelain sculpting and construction of restorations. Extensive training and study are only part of the chemistry that makes one a master ceramist. Not every ceramist possesses the skill set and talent to become a Master. A master ceramist possesses the ability to create restorations that are indistinguishable from nature.

C Notes is an iPad application that is used for medical note generation. It creates a narrative note that doesn't sacrifice clarity for convenience or speed. C Notes (short for Centric Notes) can be used during a procedure by either the dentist or the assistant to get the most accurate information in real-time, or shortly after a procedure while the details are still fresh. Ideally, note writing of any kind should generate a note as close to the time of performing the actual procedure that it is describing. C Notes is targeted to any practitioner that wants to save time writing notes, thereby, enabling them to spend more time in clinic without sacrificing clarity or completeness in their notes. Covering 11 dental departments a C Note can be written for any treatment procedure in dentistry. C Notes solves the problem of producing medical notes quickly without the use of templates for note writing, dictation software, or unwieldy medical software. All of which require a lot of manual text entry upon editing. Once a C Note is created it can be imported into your preferred dental software system with secure encryption or be printed to be placed in a paper chart.

C Notes was created to ameliorate the pain of note writing.

Most medical notes have a lot of the same boilerplate information with minor variations. We sought to capture the 60% of dental notes that contain a lot of the same information with minor variations. At the same time we created a method by which the remaining 40% of optional/additional, truly unique, entry components for the complex parts of the note could quickly be entered also. Thus, allowing the practitioner to write complete detailed notes efficiently. For a single dentist practice (90% of US practices are solo practitioner) the struggle is to be able to maximize the number of patients that can be seen in a day. Waiting until the end of the day to write notes can lead to errors in memory and errors/omssions due to end of day mental fatigue.

Detailed clinical notes are a necessity writing notes is not a billable part of the job, but is nonetheless important to document what was done in a procedure for future visits or in the event of a malpractice lawsuit. We hope C Notes gives the practitioner peace of mind knowing that their notes are well documented and saves hours a week that can better be spent seeing more patients, building their practice, taking CE courses and reclaiming personal time/spending time with family. Welcome to C Notes.

Whether you're just getting started, or perhaps renovating an existing business, HJT has the knowledge, experience, tools, and technology to meet your needs. You're guaranteed a custom experience when working with HJT, and a personalized design that fulfills all of your hopes and aspirations. Let us – a dentist, a designer, and an architect – work with you to build the office of your dreams.

    A Designer – HanH H. Tran

HanH H. Tran is a Design Consultant and Project Manager with over 26 years of experience in the field of architecture. This experience has instilled him with the ability to actively manage design, production and documentation of projects within the client's budget, schedule and program. Whether interfacing with owner's agents or coordinating with consultants, Mr. Tran retains a high level of awareness and sensitivity to design. His goal is always providing the highest quality experience for clients and exceeding their expectations throughout the process.

Mr. Tran's diverse background and practical experience is born from employment with local and regional Fortune 500 Architectural and Engineering firms serving both domestic and global clients that have included projects in Healthcare, Dental, Museum, Education, Retail, Automotive, Corporate, Food Manufacturing, Historical, and Religious.

Mr. Tran is an educated designer who is able to give you the most value for your money. An Architect - James A. Jarvis

James A. Jarvis AIA brings more than 24 years of experience as a licensed architect and a true love of building to his work with HJT. From Northwest Ohio to Colorado, Mr. Jarvis has served as Vice President, Studio Director, Managing Principle, and Director of Architecture with several firms. His experience with diverse, award-winning projects informs his current role as Managing Principal of HJT Architects.

His boyhood love of building propelled him to pursue a B.S. in Fine Arts and a B.A. in Architecture from Kent State University. He is NCARB certified and registered in Ohio, Colorado, Michigan, New Jersey, Florida, Indiana and Kentucky, with Illinois, Tennessee, Texas and Pennsylvania in process.

Unlike most architects, who simply follow notes and ultimately guess at what the design team had in mind, Mr. Jarvis is available through every step of the process. Working closely with both Dr. Huntzinger and Mr. Tran (along with the rest of the HJT team), Mr. Jarvis is able to grasp and then correctly display the overall picture that each client has decided on. Again, collaboration is a huge part of the HJT process, and Mr. Jarvis takes part in full guaranteeing 100% satisfaction each and every time.

    A Dentist – William M. Huntzinger, D.D.S.

William Huntzinger DDS founded HJT Design Consultants in 2006 while building his second new 12 operatory office. He had one goal and that was to make the process of designing, building or remodeling a dental office as simple and as cost effective as possible. He wanted other dentists to push the easy button. During the last 25 years he has purchased 8 dental practices and moved, built and remodeled 7 different times himself. He has dealt with Benco, Patterson and Henry Schein in every manner you can think of. He has worked with many different designers, architects, builders, engineers, contractors and subcontractors. He has made many mistakes during this time and learned from these mistakes. HJT exists so you do not have to make those mistakes.

He brought the two most talented people in design and architecture together to form our company. We know the dental business and we know the building business. You do not have to reinvent the wheel you can make this a much easier process.

As far as Dr. Huntzinger's dental practice, it now encompasses a team of 7 doctors including an orthodontist, 3 locations including the two state of the art 12 operatory offices, 40 staff members, a dental lab, full time CPA that consults with HJT.

Doc H, as he likes to be called, still practices full time and consults. He loves the dental business and has spent thousands of hours at courses, watching and listening to audio and video training and reading books and journals about dentistry, business and motivation. Three different practice management groups have evaluated his practice and it is always rated in the top 2 percent in productivity and profit. And if you are wondering if is practice is located in a wealthy are in Ohio, it is not. Swanton, Ohio is a town of 3500 located 10 miles west of Toledo, Ohio. It is mostly made up of average working people, small businesses and farmers. His office takes care of mom, dad, the kids, grandma and grandpa just like every other general dental practice in America.
