435 Leading Edge Dental with Brett Taylor : Dentistry Uncensored with Howard Farran Jul 02, 2016
    Show notes

Brett Taylor is either refreshingly insightful or mad as a cut snake. No one knows for sure. He can't even spell PC, so expect a complete lack of bullshit, unless of course he's trying to bullshit you, in which case expect a lot of bullshit. He often wonders if Australian expressions, idioms and nuances of speech are understood by Americans, but he doesn't wonder enough to actually give a rats arse. He's a former Vice-President of his State ADA (didn't see that coming did you?), lectures nationally and internationally on stuff he makes up, interviews people for the Australian Dental Association, has had 3 near death experiences AND has written a book called "Simplifying Life- Satisfaction Guaranteed or Your Chaos Returned". Despite his bruising schedule of introspection, self-aggrandisement, and taking the piss out of himself, he still practices dentistry full time to a group of bemused patients who know what he's like, but keep coming back regardless.

434 Dentistry in a Small Town with Jerry Kelly : Dentistry Uncensored with Howard Farran Jun 30, 2016
    Show notes

I was born at a very young age in Anderson, MO before the time of preschool, kindergarten, and sandboxes. Spending the first nine years of my life on a small farm, I invested my 5 years before school playing in the dirt, swinging on a tree swing, and throwing rocks at almost any target, moving or fixed, that I noticed. My family moved to the north central Missouri town of Marshall when I was nine. I started my formal education when I was 5 and graduated from UMKC School of Dentistry 19 years later. I went back to Marshall, flat broke, but with no educational debt and have been practicing general dentistry there for the last 38+ years.

426 Practice Choices for New Grads with Cyndi Blalock : Dentistry Uncensored with Howard Farran Jun 17, 2016
    Show notes

Originally from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Dr. Blalock got her start in dentistry when she worked as a dental assistant for a pediatric office. She attended UMKC and graduated in 2011. She returned to her hometown to join a group practice with 3 other doctors that she had known for many years. After 6 months, tensions were rising between the partners and Cyndi was doing a lot of sitting around because two of the partners were pulling seniority over her big cases. So, she found a job in public health in Jefferson City. Shortly after she left, one of the partners left the practice and the lawsuits flew. She was glad to get out when she did! She had a 3 year 30 mile no compete clause in her contract and was unable to work near her hometown. She worked in public health, as an associate, and as a locum tenens dentist for the next few years. After meeting her husband, she moved to St. Louis where she bought her own practice in March 2014. Her husband is a chiropractor and also a business owner.
