Best Decor Ideas for Renters Jun 04, 2018
    Show notes

You've been asking and now we are delivering. What are the best ways to decorate a rental? You can't move walls or rip out the kitchen, but it turns out there are a lot of things you can do. And many of these ideas will also work if you own your own home. Think re-position-able wallpaper, replacing pulls and knobs in the kitchen. Add rugs or even paint. Just keep in mind, you might have to paint it back when you move out.

Why You Should Rearrange Furniture Jun 01, 2018
    Show notes

Do you move the furniture around in your home? Or has almost everything in your home been in the same place for years? Today we are talking about how moving furniture around in your home can give you lots of creativity and breathe new life in your home! Let's talk about the importance of moving furniture around in your home!

Yvonne is a big furniture mover!

Moving furniture is a cost-free way to get a new look in your home!

You can find Furniture Sliders HERE

There are some very good reasons to move furniture in your home. The sun can really damage your furniture! Also, it's great for cleaning. While the furniture is out... move it!

Rearranging your furniture can give you a big psychological boost. Things look fresher and new!

Kelly's California take on moving furniture is that it is good for your mental health. We agree with her! Get those creative juices going when you move things around!

We all should be looking at our rooms and make sure all the furniture is not up against the walls. It looks like a furniture hold up!

Try to "float" a piece of furniture in the room.

Think about your tv. Do you use it? How do you use it? Can you live without it? Do you use your laptop instead?

Think about the way you use a room. Is your furniture placement conducive to the activities in that room?

Think about the smaller accessories in your rooms. Lamps, pillows, vignettes. Move them around! They are more easily moved around. This is the ultimate shop your house!

Laurel Bern is a blogger friend of DTT. She has created a comprehensive 150 page guide which answers all your blogging questions and more. It is called the 6 FIGURE INCOME BLOGGER. Sounds good huh?

If you are thinking about starting a blog, been blogging for awhile and want to learn more or even if you are an experienced blogger, this guide will provide you with valuable information. Find Laurel's guide HERE.

Know Your Decorating Style May 25, 2018
    Show notes

If I asked you, "What is your decorating style" what would you say? It's important to have a very clear idea of your style to be a fabulous home decorator and to help guide you when making purchasing for your home. Don't get stuck or make wrong choices because you cannot clearly define your style.

Decorating styles are fluid and our tastes change. But the more clearly you can focus in on the style you love the better decorator you are!

Most people have a mix of styles in their home. And that is a good thing!!!! A little mix gives your home personality!

You can love lots of different styles but just don't decorate with all of them! It can be very confusing.

If you are not happy with your style you should look through magazines, blogs, Pinterest, and go on home tours and find the style you absolutely love!

Four words to remember when thinking about a decorating style...

CURATE- you want a purposefully chosen look. Every item you put in your home should fit your decorating story and go with the rest of your home.

COHESIVE- strive for a home that looks unified and flows together. No outliers!

CONTROL- don't get to crazy when decorating. Control your style... Edit, Edit, Edit!

CONFIDENCE- if you decorate with confidence and know your style you can decorate with joy moving forward.

Create a private Pinterest board to collect pins of decor you are attracted to. Study those images and see if you can pull out decorating "themes".

Make a mood board online. Choose items you would love to put in a room.

Decorative juxtaposition is great and gives lots of interest to a room, but too many juxtaposed styles will look confused.

Please take into consideration the style of your home and the geographic location of your home when decorating!

We Talked about how to determine your decorating styLe in epIsode 2 HERE

Something is Missing - How to Figure Out What May 18, 2018
    Show notes

SOMETHING IS MISSING?! FIGURE IT OUT!!!!!

Do you ever walk into a room in your home and say to yourself, "Something is missing"? But you just don't know what it is. Don't worry we've all said that too! And we want to give you lots of tips and things to think about to solve this problem like Sherlock Holmes!

Our best tip is to take a picture of your room. A picture gives us a better perspective of our rooms and can often show us what is "off".

Do you have too many little pieces and things in your room? It better to have less and often better to have larger items. Too many things in a room make it look cluttered!

    Think "larger and less"!

Does everything in your room works together? Give your room a cohesive and curated look. You may have great furnishing but they may not work together!

Don't overdecorate! Rooms need "white space" or breathing space to work! Take out some things in a room and rearrange what you are keeping and see how it looks.

Another thing to think about is the height of everything in your room. If everything is low or all the same height it will look "off" at best. Use tall art, long curtains and even a tall piece of furniture to help your eye move up around the room.

Boo Hoo... make sure your room does not lack your personality! A sad room is a room without a personal touch. Let your style shine! Even the most beautiful furniture showroom looks stark! Share what you collect or add things that tell a story about you!

Texture, texture, texture baby!!!! Make sure you have lots and lots of great texture in a room.

Kelly loves mirrors and thinks a mirror should grace every room.

Balance and symmetry are so important. Make sure the furniture on one side of the room is balanced by the other.

Make sure you have a clearly defined focal point. More than one can fight and none at all will look confusing.

Layer decor. But don't layer every part of a room. After you layer decor make sure to take one or two things out and see if you like it better! But do layer!

Get friendly with Pinterest. Study rooms you love and deconstruct it. Find out what makes you love it and transfer what you love to your room.

Need help with your home? We'd love to help! We do personalized consults, and we'll offer advice specific to your room that typically includes room layout ideas, suggestions for what the room needs, and how to pull the room together. We'll also help you to decide what isn't working for you. We work with any budget, large or small. Find out more HERE

Setting a Lovely Yet Simple Table May 16, 2018
    Show notes

We have formulas, ideas & inspiration for setting a lovely & simple table every night. This episode is inspired by Jackie W one of our long time listeners who emailed us about this very topic. Thank you Jackie!!

It is easy to elevate your everyday table with our tips. Listen in!

Make it simple to create a lovely table everyday by keeping your key pieces within easy reach. You won't make the effort if it takes too much time, especially on busy week nights. No rummaging through cabinets nightly. Choose a few pieces and keep them handy. These will be the elements in your formula for a simple, but lovely table. Suggestions are a small tray, a set of candle sticks with tapers, pretty salt & pepper shakers or a salt cellar and cloth napkins at the ready, wrinkles are ok!

Layering on the table doesn't have to be complicated to be pretty. Use a runner, placemat or tablecloth for a layer & softness. Stack two plates and place the napkin on the plate. Done!

Always light those candles, even if it is a tiny votive. A single flame changes the atmosphere.

Kelly has a lovely summer table set HERE.

Yvonne gives us tips on setting an organic table HERE.

Anita share how to mix & match for a simple & lovely table HERE.

We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites

Consider trying a different salt set on the table in a pretty bowl. Kelly's favorite is Maldon. You can find it HERE in her Amazon shop.

Woven oval placemats are HERE too.

Salt can make all the difference in a meal - Read Kelly's Salt 101 post for lots of information on teh various types of salt and when to use which for best results. Read HERE
