DC #878: #GenieIsGH Jan 22, 2018

Show notes

On this special Daytime Confidential episode Luke Kerr, Jamey Giddens, Mike Jubinville and Jillian Bowe dive into the news that General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini has bumped soap opera legend Genie Francis to recurring.

The DC gang explores the importance of Genie Francis and her character Laura Spencer having an active role on the show and in Port Charles.

In the era of Time's Up and pay disparity revelations why are General Hospital's actresses paid so much less than their male counterparts?

They look at a timeline of Valentini's decisions and the negative impact his "Friends of Frank" casting style has had both onscreen and off. Why has Valentini become caught up in casting wars with other shows or hired his actor's boyfriends in roles fans do not care about when General Hospital has a rich history of characters that could be portrayed by these same actor?

Under Valentini's stewardship General Hospital has gone from having a long track record as one of the best soaps at casting new generations of actors–like Genie Francis, Kin Shriner, Anthony Geary, Steve Burton, Maurice Benard, Vanessa Marcil, Sarah Brown, Tyler Christopher, Amber Tamblyn, Jonathan Jackson, Scott Clifton and Drew Garrett–to arguably the worst at casting fresh faces.

Should Valentini be fired if the debacle with Genie Francis' contract is not rectified?
