DawgmanRadio: Fetters and Beach break down the Gonzaga loss Dec 10, 2019
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Chris Fetters and Head of Hoops Aaron Beach - found some time on a busy Monday to get together and talk about Washington's 83-76 loss to Gonzaga and where that puts them in the non-conference schedule and how close they are to being where they need to be as they have four more games left in their non-conference schedule.

They break down aspects of the loss, what Washington did to stay in the game, what Gonzaga was able to do to keep the Huskies at bay in a difficult and hyped environment, and ultimately what the Bulldogs were able to do to pull away late.

How did the blend of zone and man defense work for the Huskies? Or didn't it work very well? What was Gonzaga able to do on offense to answer seemingly every time Washington tried to go on a run, spurred on by the raucous Sunday Hec Ed crowd?

And finally, Beach gives his thoughts on the season to date, how individual players are doing with their development, the rotation, and where the Huskies need to continue to grow as they play Seattle a week from Tuesday and then hit the road and play their final three non-conference games in the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, starting with Ball State on Sunday, December 22nd.

DawgmanRadio: Bowl Game/Signing Day talk Dec 09, 2019
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - go deep into the weeds with the news that Washington will be playing Boise State in the Las Vegas Bowl on Saturday, December 21st. The timing of the game offers up a lot of interesting storylines, including how the Huskies are going to be dealing with bowl game prep at the same time they are putting a bow on their 2020 recruiting class.

Will there be any issues, now that Chris Petersen has announced the UW staff will be in Vegas on Signing Day? How will it affect things for their final weekend of official visits, which starts this Friday?

The guys go into the mechanics of dealing with both, as well as their takes on the news that Trey Adams and Hunter Bryant will not be playing in the game. Bryant announced earlier that he will be turning pro, foregoing his final year of eligibility.

But what about some of the other players that are eligible to leave early? What about Jacob Eason? Salvon Ahmed? Jaxson Kirkland? Levi Onwuzurike? Keith Taylor? Elijah Molden? Cade Otton?

The guys break give their opinions on each of those players and whether or not they think they could turn pro after the bowl game.

Finally, they take a stroll into the complex question of Washington's future on offense. Is the Las Vegas Bowl a dress rehearsal for what UW fans could see next year on that side of the ball? Is it going to be the equivalent of an job interview for current offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Bush Hamdan? Will it be enough to convince Jacob Eason to stay for 2020? Or has he already made up his mind about turning pro?

And finally, has the UW staff left hints on the recruiting trail that the offensive staff will come back intact in 2020? Or is it too early to tell? And, is it too early to gauge how involved new head coach Jimmy Lake will be in revamping the offense? Or, as a defensive mastermind, will he simply hand the keys over to the offensive staff and let them solve the problem?

The Dawgman guys go into all those meaty question, and more

    Show notes

The gym is going to be packed, the Dawg Pack is going to be in full voice, and these young pups aren't going to know what hit them. They've been in some big games and some big-time environments, but it's not going to be quite like what they will experience Sunday at 4 pm when the Huskies take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs.

The media spoke Friday with UW Head Coach Mike Hopkins and junior guard Nahziah Carter, who talked about last year's close shave with the Zags, the 'Gonzaga Way', Sunday's atmosphere, and how this will be another big test they can use as a gauge to determine not only how far they've come since the beginning of the season, but also how much work they need to put in to get where they want to be before the start of Pac-12 play.

DawgmanRadio - Thoughts on the Transition from Petersen to Lake Dec 03, 2019
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - recap a busy, busy 24 hours with their thoughts after the press conference announcing Jimmy Lake as Washington's 19th Head Football Coach.

Departing head coach Chris Petersen was also in attendance, as well as Washington Athletic Director Jen Cohen, and the guys talked about Petersen's exit, what his next steps will be, and why he felt that now was the right time to pass the torch to one of his proteges.

They also talked about Lake, the next steps he'll take after the bowl game, and what this means for the staff moving forward and also for recruiting. How will Lake and the current coaches handle this transition, and how will they sell it to the players already committed to UW for 2020?

There's so much to unpack, from Petersen's departure to Cohen's decision to stay in-house, to what Lake will bring to the table as Built For Life goes into overdrive, and the Dawgman guys break it all down with this podcast sharing their opinions on all the ramifications stemming from Petersen stepping down as Washington's head coach.

DawgmanRadio: Jimmy Lake talks about taking over at UW Dec 03, 2019
    Show notes

The irony is not lost on Jimmy Lake. In 2004, the 27-year old cornerbacks coach at Eastern Washington decided to take the same job at the University of Washington. The Huskies were 6-6 the year before, but weren't expected to do well the next season. People around Lake were telling him to not take the gig because it was probably going to only be for a year. He had spent the previous four years with his alma mater, and was making headway in the coaching ranks. But he wanted the challenge.

2004 happened as everyone thought it would. The program fell off a cliff, winning only one game. And the football staff, led by Keith Gilbertson, was blown out. But Lake never regretted making the move. In fact, it taught him lessons and helped him form coaching friendships he leans on to this day.

As poorly as 2004 went, I think if you told Lake then that in 2019 he'd be named the head coach at Washington, he would have believed you. That's just the confidence and swagger Lake brings to the position. He talked about that Tuesday morning when he met with the media after being introduced as the 19th head football coach at UW.

DawgmanRadio: Bey, Stewart, Hopkins talk after UW's 75-55 win over South Dakota Dec 03, 2019
    Show notes

The Washington Huskies finished on a 19-3 run, eventually outlasting the South Dakota Coyotes 75-55 Monday night at Alaska Airlines Arena.

Jaden McDaniels scored 15 of his game-high 20 points in the first half, and Isaiah Stewart came up with his second career double-double (16 points, 15 rebounds) to pace the Huskies (6-1), despite dealing with foul trouble in the second half. Stewart eventually fouled out with 47 seconds to play.

Jamal Bey started for the first time as a Husky and scored 14 points, while Nahziah Carter added 12 points and 9 rebounds.

Bey, Stewart, and UW Head Coach Mike Hopkins spoke to the media after the game. Here's their comments.

EMERGENCY PODCAST: Chris Petersen steps down, Lake takes over Dec 02, 2019
    Show notes

Wow. CyberMonday just turned into Manic Monday with the news that Washington Head Coach Chris Petersen is set to step down after six years at Montlake. And the succession plan is in place, with UW Defensive Coordinator Jimmy Lake set to take Petersen's job. It's been announced he's signed a five-year deal starting at $3 million per year.

So what does this all mean? The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - break down their initial thoughts, from how it affects recruiting, to what jobs open up on the staff, to how Lake is going to deal with the inevitable off-season headaches with the offense that were clearly on Petersen's plate.
