1240: The Language of Heaven (Ephesians 5:4) // Building Up the Body 14 (Nathan Johnson) Apr 16, 2025

Show notes

Your mouth is important to God. It will either be characterized by the culture or marked by the language of heaven. Whichever you choose, you will either promote God’s Kingdom or the Kingdom of the World. In this study, we examine Ephesians 5:4 and Paul’s command for a Christian not to talk with foolishness or filthiness, but instead to have a mouth full of thanksgiving.

1239: The Threat of Tariffs // Citizenship 14 (Eric Ludy + Nathan Johnson) Apr 14, 2025

Show notes

The Kingdom of God is upside down. If you want to go up, you must go down, if you want to be first, you must be last, and life is found through death. Culturally, there is a struggle with tariffs—people are experiencing pain while the system is reset. Similarly, as Christians, God will allow us to go through momentary pain and difficulty in order to bring us victory and freedom (and rescue us from even greater pain). In this discussion, Eric and Nathan talk about how resurrection life is found on the far side of the cross and why that is such a beautiful thing in a believer’s life.

1238: The Adventure of Adoption // Thirty Years 12 (Eric + Leslie Ludy) Apr 11, 2025

Show notes

One of the most defining aspects of Eric and Leslie’s thirty years together has been their journey of adopting four kids into their family. Adoption is a beautiful portrayal of God’s heart and, at the same time, one of the riskiest and most challenging adventures a family could ever embark upon.

1237: Set Free From Sensuality (Ephesians 5:3) // Building Up the Body 13 (Nathan Johnson) Apr 09, 2025

Show notes

In our sensually-saturated culture, even the church has begun to question whether victory in the area of sexuality is possible in a Christian’s life. Yet, Scripture makes it clear that not only is it possible to be set free from all sexual deviancy and live in purity, integrity, and freedom, but we can actually triumph in our sexuality for the glory of Jesus Christ. In this study of Ephesians 5:3, Nathan talks about one of the central burdens of the Early Church—not even a hint of sexual immorality, impurity, or greed in our lives—what the heart of the issue is and how we can walk in freedom in this area through the Gospel.

1236: Waste, Fraud, and Abuse (Mercy Edition) // Citizenship 13 (Eric Ludy + Nathan Johnson) Apr 07, 2025

Show notes

In this follow-up discussion from last week, Eric and Nathan talk about mercy and how regardless of where we are with sin, mercy is always available. While a difficult subject to discuss, lest we keep on sinning so grace can abound, Eric and Nathan talk about why the concept of mercy is so significant in light of waste, fraud, and abuse found in our lives. They remind us that while God's mercy is always available, His desire for His people is that we would walk in holiness, righteousness, purity, and godliness. This is a powerful truth, especially in light of last week's discussion.

1234: Not Even a Hint (Ephesians 5:3) // Building Up the Body 12 (Nathan Johnson) Apr 02, 2025

Show notes

There are two kingdoms—the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of the World—and the contrast between them is great. Paul makes it clear that as Christians, our lives are to be marked and measured by the King of the Kingdom of which we live. As such, Christians (saints, holy ones) are not to live like the world around us, rather our lives are to evidence God’s holiness, purity, righteousness, and godliness. In this study, we examine Ephesians 5:3 and Paul’s command that we are not to have a hint of the behavior and lifestyle of the world within us.

1233: Waste, Fraud, and Abuse // Citizenship 12 (Eric Ludy + Nathan Johnson) Mar 31, 2025

Show notes

It appears that the majority of people agree that there is waste, fraud, and abuse in the government. And while it fine to generalize the issue, people start having problems when someone actually starts to do something about it. The same is true in our souls—it is easy to declare that there is possible issues of waste, fraud, and abuse in our lives, but few of us actually want to deal with it. In this discussion, Eric and Nathan talk about why we are so prone to justify the problems of our lives (or ignore the issues) and how we should deal with it in our souls.

1231: The Character of the Kingdom (Ephesians 4–6) // Building Up the Body 11 (Nathan Johnson) Mar 26, 2025

Show notes

When we become Christians, everything in our lives is supposed to change. We have been transferred from the Kingdom of Darkness and now made citizens of the Kingdom of Light and Love (i.e., the Kingdom of Jesus Christ). In this study, we step back and look at a broad outline of Ephesians 4–6 which will better help us understand the character of God’s Kingdom and the life Paul is exhorting us toward.
