    Show notes

Whether its through distraction, fear, or passivity, we often loose our gumption to think and act big in this world. We prefer to have someone else live big for us. Yet, Jesus wants to live big through us. In this conversation, Eric and Nathan explore the concept of thinking big, what does that mean practically, and how do it relate to the importance of tending to the small areas of our lives. As Eric said, "Watch what God will do if we expect Him to be God Almighty and not God all-tiny."

1249: Four Five and Under // Thirty Years 15 (Eric + Leslie Ludy) May 09, 2025
    Show notes

According to Scripture, children are like arrows in the hand of the warrior. Any one who has kids may wish to question such a notion. Arrows? Strength? Weakness, liability, and inconvenience would appear to be better descriptions. But the Bible is correct. As Eric and Leslie attest in this episode, when children are embraced as God designed, they can turn the average parent into a superhero.

1248: Deception, Disobedience, and Destruction (Ephesians 5:6) // Building Up the Body 17 (Nathan Johnson) May 07, 2025
    Show notes

Our modern culture celebrates ungodliness and sinful behavior—and it has seeped into the Church where leaders are encouraging Christians to live however they want and indulge in every kind of sin. But Paul warns in Ephesians 5:6 that we are not to be deceived by the “empty words” of people who endorse the things God has called sin. In this study, Nathan examines Paul’s warning, and reminds us that because a judgment is coming, we must take sin seriously.

    1247: Absurdism // Citizenship 17 (Eric Ludy + Nathan Johnson) May 05, 2025
    Show notes

Biblical thinking has gone the way of the Dodo, and now common sense has followed suit. What is left if "absurdism"—where we all stare at a naked emperor and claim he is fully dressed. In this episode, Eric and Nathan talk about the craziness of our culture and how we call evil "good" and what is wrong we call "right." But it is more than just the culture, because we do the same thing with sin in our souls. Join the discussion and hear Eric and Nathan's insight into the days in which we live and if they think there is any hope.

1245: Victory in Jesus or Myself? (Ephesians 5:5) // Building Up the Body 16 (Nathan Johnson) Apr 30, 2025
    Show notes

When we first come to Christ, we are saved by His grace, through faith (Ephesians 2:8–9). Our salvation is not of ourselves, it is the work and gift of God on our behalf. Yet, strangely, for many Christians, once we are saved through faith, we attempt to live the Christian life in our own strength, ability, wisdom, and resource—we try to be godly, holy, righteous, and pure. But the reality of the Christian life is that we are to ALWAYS live by faith in Christ. The only way we will ever experience freedom, victory, and triumph over sin is when we live by faith in Jesus alone. In this study, Nathan talks about what faith is, how it functions, why it is necessary, and how it applies to Ephesians 5:3–5 in the area of sexuality, purity, and freedom from sin.

1244: The Deep State // Citizenship 16 (Eric Ludy + Nathan Johnson) Apr 28, 2025
    Show notes

The Ancien Regime is the French way of saying, “The Old Regime” (where we get our word "ancient"). This Old Regime has been around since before you were born and it doesn’t like to give up its control. Typically, in the government the Ancien is called the Deep State, but in our lives Paul called it "the flesh" or some call it "The Old Man"—or what we could say "The Ancien Man." Our sinful flesh doesn't like to give up control, but as Scripture commands, we must put off the Ancien to put on the Lord Jesus Christ. In this conversation, Eric and Nathan discuss the Ancien, how it plays out in our lives, and the only solution we have to change it.

1243: Start with One // Thirty Years 13 (Eric + Leslie Ludy) Apr 25, 2025
    Show notes

Staring at the staggering number of orphaned and vulnerable children worldwide, Eric and Leslie felt compelled to do something about the crisis. God encouraged them to start with one. This is the story of them doing exactly that. In July of 2007, Harper Grace Ludy made the trip from Seoul, South Korea to Windsor, Colorado and into the Ludy home—changing it forever.

1242: Freed From Idolatry to Receive an Inheritance (Ephesians 5:5) // Building Up the Body 15 (Nathan Johnson) Apr 23, 2025
    Show notes

Paul does not back down when it comes to those who want to live a life of sexual immorality and impurity—those who continue to practice such a perverse life of idolatry will not inherit the Kingdom of God. But there is good news! No matter what you have struggled with in the past, no matter what your identity has been, Jesus and His Gospel can set you free! Discover how in this study of Ephesians 5:5.

1241: The Beauty of a Trade Deficit // Citizenship 15 (Eric Ludy + Nathan Johnson) Apr 21, 2025
    Show notes

America has a massive trade deficit, and while this may not be a good thing economically, does a "trade deficit" spiritually reveal a problem? In this discussion, Eric and Nathan talk about God's "trade deficit" with humanity and how His pattern actually is how Christianity operates. In short, Jesus is in the business of extravagant generosity—His giving always super-abundantly outweighs what He requests in return—and this truth is not only awe-inspiring, but is also a very good thing.
