Where Is Cumorah? Where Did The Book of Mormon Take Place? (feat. Jonathan Neville) Mar 16, 2023

Show notes

I have no horse in this race. But many do. Where did the Book of Mormon take place? The academic model is the Meso-American model. But there is a growing belief in what has become known as the Heartland model which states that the Book of Mormon took place in the Eastern United States. According to scholar Jonathan Neville, one of the thought leaders of the Heartland Model, if we simply listen to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery, we would have to take a closer look at this model.

Is there "gatekeeping" going on at Book of Mormon Central (Scripture Central)?

Key to the Heartland Model is the location of Cumorah. The Meso-American Model has the Hill Cumorah in Meso-America. The Heartland Model in New York. Obviously, the plates were found in New York, but the meta-narrative is that this hill was mistakenly called Cumorah or "traditionally" called Cumorah. Listen to this conversation and make your own judgment.

The Problem With Men And Masculinity In The Church w/ Kurt Francom Mar 09, 2023

Show notes

Over the last year, we have done a few episodes on men and masculinity in the church. They have always generated a lot of discussions online and in the comment section. And not just from men. Women have a lot to say on the subject as well.

In the west, men are trying to find their way in an ever-increasingly feminine world. Even within the church, things have changed significantly over the years. Kurt Francom from Leading Saints Podcast joins us to discuss, "Where are all the men in the Church?" What is "Nice Guy Syndrome?" What does every man need even at church and Elders Quorum?

CRT Grows In A More Woke Utah Mar 08, 2023

Show notes

CRT continues to permeate our institutions at an alarming rate. Regardless of the pushback, the CRT and antiracism activists have created f formidable incursion. In K-12 and higher education, this often means circumnavigating the parents. The state of Utah is no different.

Cari Bartholomew is a researcher of Critical Race Theory and advises organizations on recognizing and fighting this pernicious ideology. As a woman of color, she is heavily criticized and was even fired for pushing back in the classroom. This is even more notable given that she was brought up in several different Foster Homes seemingly priming her for our current victimhood society.

BYU Antiracism Project Mar 03, 2023

Show notes

BYU has an Antiracism project. As one of its goals, it is building a database of antiracism resources for BYU faculty to use for teaching their college students. It is essentially a hard-left, Marxian stew of the most prominent actors in Critical Race Theory and antiracism.

The most dangerous development in a gospel environment is conflating the words of the prophet of the Restored Church with the words of the prophets of the Religion of Academia. We see this consistently at BYU and unfortunately, even at church.

Pastor Jeff Jeff McCullough Reads 2 Nephi "Reaction" Mar 01, 2023

Show notes

2 Nephi is "packed" with doctrine! Pastor Jeff expectedly brings up a couple of flashpoints between Evangelical doctrine and Latter-day Saint doctrine - Grace and Works as well as Trinity vs Godhead. This is good stuff!

Another point of doctrinal distinction is the Fall of Adam and Eve. Greg also covers covenant, atonement, and the pre-mortal world.
