Unplug from Social Media and #StopTheHate Permanently? Yes #111 Jul 07, 2020
    Show notes

What is happening with the human race? How is it that we are now so addicted, so believing, so sheep-like, so affected by Social Media? Is it Fear Of Missing Out? Are we happier being pissed off all the time? Are we looking for anger? Join me, Aviva Ounap, host of Crypto and Blockchain Talk as I talk to the founder of Peteyvid.com Craig Stadler about his amazing video search engine, his new LIVE video platform, the state of social media and where it is headed.

I also recorded an introduction, as after we finished this podcast, something called #StopHateforProfit started, which goes to prove that many companies are sick of the hate and bullying on social media. But even this movement is questionable as they are going after Facebook only, they have a list of demands against only Facebook, and even if Facebook lost $10Billion in revenue, it is nothing compared to their overall revenue and value.

Furthermore, Facebook already said it does not allow hate speech on its platform and acknowledged it could do more to tackle this problem. So how are they going to police billions of posts a day, and what if one slips through the net?

Facebook removed nearly 10 million posts for violating its rules against hate speech in the first three months of 2020, and most were taken down before users reported them. The social network relies on a mix of human reviewers and technology to moderate content but detecting hate speech can be challenging because machines must understand the cultural context of words. So, what will be the real outcome of this boycott? I fear not much. Except for companies who are boycotting Facebook enjoying great optics, and looking like they are doing something for the good of mankind, and Facebook losing lunch money for one day, I see this not having much impact in the world of social media, as Facebook is only ONE of many platforms.

The only way to really stop the hate is to unplug. Permanently.

Fifty (50) BTC Just Moved for First Time Since 2009, Satoshi, is that you? #109 Jun 07, 2020
    Show notes

Satoshi, is that you? It seems that 50 Bitcoin moved for the first time since 2009, and the world is effervescent with guesses – it is Satoshi? This hoard of BTC has not been touched since being rewarded for mining block 3654 in 2009, but to be fair, there were several early miners on the Bitcoin network in 2009. When the transfer of funds was made, Bitcoin crashed in price, cutting about a grand from the worth of bitcoin from previous 24 hour highs. Professionals believe that blocks mined by Satoshi have a particular pattern in their nonces, called a Patoshi pattern - and these Bitcoin do not appear to have this pattern, meaning they did not originate from Satoshi’s stash.

What is even weirder, apparently Craig Wright (who has claimed to be Satoshi Takemoto or the inventor of Bitcoin), has denied moving the coins, although he once claimed to own this address in the past (and another 16,000 wallet addresses). Wright is currently in the midst of a lawsuit in the US, brought against him by the family of Dave Kleiman, an early Bitcoin pioneer and miner.

So who can it be behind the whale-like movement? Join Aviva Ounap, Host of Crypto and Blockchain Talk, and Ben Jessel of Forbes .com on this podcast as we look at what is happening behind this movement of 50 BTC, and the intrigue behind this movement of bitcoin.

Tribute: We dedicate this podcast to David Kleiman 1967 – 2013

Kleiman was the technical brains behind bitcoin, and if he was alive today, he would own half of a bitcoin cache mined by Nakamoto, worth about $10 billion USD.

    Rest in peace, David.

Let's talk about Sachs, Baby! Is Goldman Sachs telling their investors to run from Bitcoin? #108 Jun 07, 2020
    Show notes

Goldman Sachs told their investors that Bitcoin is not a suitable investment and they gave five reasons why they feel Bitcoin is "not an asset class", including that it is primarily used as a conduit for illicit activity (um, like cash isn’t?). They made many other claims, but what they forgot to do was perhaps give great balance and food for thought in the way of a more rounded picture, but never fear! This is where Ben Jessel of Forbes.com and Aviva Ounap, host of Crypto and Blockchain Talk come in! We look at Goldman’s 5 reasons why they think investors should shy away from Bitcoin and dissect them carefully for you, our listeners giving some balance and understanding.

Savings? Nope. Debt? Yes. Humans Suck at Finance. It is a fact. #105 Apr 28, 2020
    Show notes

Savings? Nope. Debt? Yes. Humans Suck at Finance. It is a fact. We have no clue about saving and spending as a species. The average human has almost no savings and is full of debt, despite working. Should we be teaching finance in schools, from kindergarten? I certainly think so! It should be right next to, "Johnny. how do you add 2+2? So can you afford the $5 toy? Tell me WHY." Regardless, there are sometimes external circumstances that can push you even further into debt and despair, such as a pandemic. Yet, it is still down to you to learn and get smarter about these things, and that is why you are listening to this podcast because there are resources out there that help you learn and stretch your mind to making the most of your money, and life.

A Perfect Storm? How the news of last week could influence the crypto market #104 Apr 17, 2020

There are many stories in the news lately that could impact the future of the crypto market, that perhaps the subtlety of some of them are being overlooked in terms of how, when grouped altogether, they could alter the bigger picture. Join me, host Aviva Ounap and Michael McCarty from Shrimpy.io as we look at some of these headline stories and back page news pieces - including Binance's purchase of CoinMarketCap, the impending Bitcoin halving, impending class action lawsuits, and major mining companies who have decided to call it a day - and see how this all fits into the perception of crypto as a world-class asset and its future.

DeFi dreams? More like DeFi pipedreams. #103 Apr 10, 2020
    Show notes

DeFi has been in the news a lot lately, and the headlines are more bad than good, Besides knowing that DeFi stands for Decentralised Finance, what else do you know and understand about it? As Jon Evans from Github stated in a recently published article, "DeFi seems to me more like cosplaying a financial system than an actual viable alternative. I don’t see it crossing that divide any time soon, if ever. It even cosplays the De in its name, too, since very few of today’s DeFi offerings (beyond its base layers) are actually decentralized — as in beyond the control of some kind of centralized administration — or have any real schedule for becoming so." Join me, Aviva Ounap, host of Crypto and Blockchain Talk, and Ben Jessel, Forbes Journalist, as we talk about DeFi, what it is, and what the future holds for it - and for you.

    Digital Dollar Deleted? #102 Apr 03, 2020
    Show notes

The Digital Dollar project has been around now for some time and was supposed to have its debut officially unveiled within the US coronavirus stimulus bill that was signed into law on March 27th. But guess what - there was not a whisper of it anywhere within the entire document. Of course, it would have made sense to use Digital Dollar wallets to distribute the funds from the US government to everyone who was entitled to aid as stated within the stimulus bill, but this was not to be. Is it just too early to use blockchain technology within this space? The Digital Dollar project has not seen the end yet - but if not now, when? Join me, Aviva Õunap, and Jonathan Dunsmoor of Dunsmoor Law as we have a chat about the Digital Dollar, the world stage and the future of this central bank digital currency (CBDC) in this thought-provoking podcast.
