The roots of Theros lie in the myths of ancient Greece, tales dominated by gods, heroes, and monsters. This world was created as a setting for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, explored in card sets beginning in 2013. The lands of Theros serve as an example of how to take inspiration from real-world mythology and adapt it into a world built from the ground up for fantasy adventures.

Final Fantasy 7 Materia System for 5th Edition D&D Jun 03, 2020

Crit Academy discusses a 5th Edition conversion of the greatest RPG games of all time, Final Fantasy 7. The full supplement can be found HERE. Created by Mike Myler. For the uninitiated, this is the game's magic and equipment-kitting system–you get the Fire materia from somewhere and equip it onto a weapon or armor (better the piece → more materia slots), you can cast the Fire spell with it, as you gain experience so does the materia (at a rate determined by the item it is equipped to), and eventually it levels up so you can cast Fire 2 while it's equipped. It has just the right amount of depth and complexity to be properly engaging for folks without getting cumbersome.

Weapons are more than just objects that adventurers carry to stab, slice, or break enemies with. In the proper hands of a master, they can be powerful tools to gain the upper hand against an enemy. A weapon perk is a special skill or technique that can be used with a specific weapon. This allows each weapon to feel unique among all of the options the adventurers have, and hopefully give them their own identity.
