Episode 116 Bachelor in Paradise: Fiesta Flutters (Season 7, Week 1) Aug 17, 2021

Show notes

It’s Paradise! It’s what we’ve been waiting for, for TWO YEARS. We have a feeling this season is going to get messy, very quickly. People are already starting to couple up and we see the first kisses of the season. Abigail gets her first date card ever, love that for her. As a reminder, we are an Abigail stan podcast and we will accept no haters. Our BIPOC Points for this episode is 22! Reminder: 1 point for screen time, 5 points for talking on screen, and 10 points for BIPOC dates! This episode we see Deandra and Aaron on our screen, but not anything substantive. We also see some chats with Natasha, Brendan, Ivan, Jessenia, Sarena P., Tammy, Tahzjuan, Tre, Karl, and Maurissa. We also see a date with our BIPOC queen and America’s sweetheart, Abigail. Danielle also deducts points for the fact that Mari, Maurissa, Tre, and Deandra had no chyron or introduction when coming to the screen, the fact that Tammy called David Spade Dave Chappelle (blasphemy), and the fact that David Spade and wells could not pronounce Tahzjuan’s name correctly. We also give 1 point for getting a glimpse of Chelsea and Riley in the promo for the season. It’s almost paradise! We made it through Katie’s season, almost unscathed, and now it’s time for some fun on the beach! There have been so many seasons and contestants that we will see on BIP, we had to recap all the players in the game! We also have some new and exciting hosts to introduce you to.

So sit back and listen, as we take you in the way back machine to leads that we would like to forget (Colton and Peter) and contestants that we are sure to see heating things up under the Mexican sun!

Episode 115 The Bachelorette: Almost Paradise (Season 17, Week 10: Finale and ATFR) Aug 11, 2021

Show notes

We made it, y’all! We don’t know what to say about this season or this finale. Congrats to Katie and Blake! If Katie likes it, we love it! Kaitlyn and Tayshia were definitely the hostesses with the mostest.

We see a recap of the season (lame), more of the Greg and Katie breakup (lame) and the final engagement between Blake and Katie (more lame, but happy for you). Poor Justin. We once again get into a debate about Greg. Buckle up.

Our BIPOC Highlight goes to Justin, again. Our man got played like an extra all episode. Rude!

Episode 114 True Crime: The 1984 South Pasadena Arson Murders of Ada Deal, Matthew Troidl, Carolyn Kraus, and Jimmy Cetina Aug 05, 2021

Show notes

Last week at the Men Tell All, we saw one firefighter trainee just light it up on the stage. It felt like he got more air time at the MTA than all season long, so this one’s for you, Brendan.

Megan tells the story of the 1984 Pasadena fire at a hardware store that sadly took the lives of four people- two employees, and two customers. During the investigation, they believe that this fire was committed by a serial arsonist, and was even committed by an arson investigator. (Story starts at 10:03).

CONTENT WARNING: child murders

We also discuss the Olympics again - it feels incredibly difficult to watch from a logistics perspective. Congratulations to Suni Lee of Team USA Gymnastics for her gold medal in the Women’s individual all-around. And of course, we will always stan the GOAT, Simone Biles and her leadership. We also discuss our excitement for Bachelor in Paradise, premiering on August 19! On that note, we will not have a true crime episode released on August 12th in preparation for the premiere.

Links Discussed in the Episode:

Episode 37- The Murder of Andres Escobar (info on the Rosebowl)

Episode 77- The Fires of Paul Kenneth Keller, the Pyromaniac (more on arsonists)

Episode 113 The Bachelorette: Hometowns Heartbreak Hotel (Season 17, Week 9) Aug 03, 2021

Show notes

It’s Hometowns! In a COVID Bubble! We travel nowhere, but we also travel to Canada with Blake, Baltimore with Justin and New Jersey with Greg in the span of 40 minutes.

And then s***t hits the fan. Greg is not getting the response and validation he needs from Katie, which Katie may not know to give, and their relationship hits a wall. But is Katie telling him what he wants to hear, in code?

We have differing opinions on Greg and Katie's relationship, which we passionately debate. Make sure to give us your thoughts on social media @crimeandroses on Instagram and Twitter.

Our BIPOC highlight goes to Justin Glaze. We adore his facial expressions! We also see him deal with the fact that his family won’t be coming to hometowns. However, we get genuine and real reactions to Katie and Justin’s relationship from Herb and Tommy.

Show notes

This is a sneak peek of our August 2021 Bachelor Patreon Exclusive content.

You can hear the full episode here. Starting at the $3 level of our Patreon membership!

CONTENT WARNING: child sexual assault and child murder

Danielle tells the story of Kimberly Diane Leach. Kim was a kind, beautiful, and much-loved 12-year-old girl. She was walking from class to class at her middle school when she was kidnapped, raped, and murdered by a monster by the name of Ted Bundy. Danielle tells the story of children victims of Ted Bundy. She also talks about how white supremacy and misogyny led to the media glamorizing Ted as a sophisticated serial killer, where in reality, he was really just a mediocre white man and child predator.

Episode 112 True Crime: The Aum Shinrikyo Cult and the 1995 Tokyo Subway Attack Jul 29, 2021

Show notes

Last week on The Bachelor, we saw a very strange date between the virgin, Mikey P. and Katie. They lay in the woods and are instructed to get intimate by a Cuddle Queen. Mikey P. and Katie are wearing all white in a weird cult-ish Midsommar vibe. Mikey P. then whispers in Katie’s ear “you remind me of my mom.”

Danielle couldn’t pass up an opportunity to talk about cults! Plus Megan wouldn’t let her talk about mommy issues murders. Danielle covers the Aum Shinrikyo cult that started with a charismatic and psychopathic leader. It started with yoga and comics and ended with terrorism. The cult committed a horrific mass murder that killed 14 and injured over 5,000 people, attacking subways in the heart of Tokyo, Japan in March of 1995. (story starts at 13:55).

We also talk about the 2020 Olympics and Danielle’s experience in a relaxing float, which proved to be not relaxing AT ALL.

Episode 111 The Bachelorette: The Men Halfway Say Some Stuff … I Guess (Season 17, Week 8 - Men Tell All) Jul 27, 2021

Show notes

It’s time for the Men Tell All! And thankfully, we are joined this week by some of our favorite babes Liv and Bix of In the Moment with Liv and Bix.

We see Michael A. break up with Katie. We see the men bicker. Question: where is David, Thomas, and John Hershey?!?! Connor B. kisses a producer plant from the audience. We also see Andrew S. and Michael A. take the hot seat.

BIPOC highlight goes to the producer that held Michael A in her arms when he left. We loved the embrace and the show breaking the 4th wall for that moment.
