    163: Road to Redemption: Chapter 5 - The Interviews Apr 13, 2021
    Show notes

This may be the end of Rocky's series, but it is by no means the end of our passion for him and his case. In this final chapter, you'll hear directly from Kacey Keeton and Sara Romano, Rocky's current lawyer and investigator. You'll also hear from Rocky Myers himself.
*Note: Rocky's interview was conducted via prison phone. It can be hard to hear at times, but is absolutely worth hearing what he has to say about his life inside and outside of Holman Correctional Facility.

162: Road to Redemption: Chapter 4 - The Long Weekend Mar 30, 2021
    Show notes

All the witnesses have testified, and it's time for the jury to deliberate. They certainly don't agree, but very consciously choose their verdict as well as their sentencing recommendation. Six months later during the actual sentencing, Rocky and his team are met with a huge surprise. Then, things seem to only get worse during the appeals process.

    161: Road to Redemption: Chapter 3 - Dirty Laundry Mar 21, 2021
    Show notes

This week on Rocky's story, we're picking up halfway through the trial. We learn a lot about the timeline, and just how many varying versions of it there are. Some make sense, while others... don't. One of these sheds major doubt onto one of the key witnesses who initially made a call to police. Plus, we hear testimony about forensics, or the lack thereof.

This is part 2 of Rocky's story. Rocky is implicated and arrested, and admits to selling the VCR... but insists he didn't kill Mrs. Tucker. We're going to trial, where we will immediately see some issues before it even officially starts. Not to mention conflicting witness statements. Things are starting to not add up...

158: Forensic Breakthrough: Charles Stielow - Comparison Microscope Feb 22, 2021
    Show notes

A farmer and his friend are shot dead on the farmer's property. Suspicion falls on his newly hired farmhand, who is arrested along with his brother in law. They're convicted on ballistics evidence which showed that the bullets could only have been fired from the suspect's gun. However, later a new suspect emerges causing the case to be revisited. On further inspection, the bullets weren't properly inspected at all, leading to the invention of a new tool.

157: Forensic Breakthrough: Angie Dodge - Familial DNA Feb 17, 2021
    Show notes

Angie Dodge never reported for work, and co-workers found her dead in her apartment. The killer was caught and put in prison... or so they thought. However, with advancements in DNA it was learned that they in fact had the wrong guy. But now they had a new challenge. Who actually did it? Inspired by the Golden State Killer case, investigators thought they knew just the way to make it happen....

156: Forensic Breakthrough: Colin Pitchfork - DNA Fingerprinting Feb 11, 2021
    Show notes

The crux of modern forensics is DNA. DNA has been around for a long time. But how did it find its place in solving crimes? It started with two rapes and murders of teenage girls along footpaths in England. Authorities thought they found their man, but a Geneticist named Alec Jeffreys showed them this was not the case. Today's story is the first time mass DNA screening was used, someone was convicted due to DNA evidence, and someone was exonerated due to DNA evidence... all in the same case.

155: Forensic Breakthrough: George Trepal - Thallium Testing Feb 02, 2021
    Show notes

Spats with a neighbor aren't uncommon. Barking dogs, unmowed grass, and trash on the lawn can be reasonable complaints. But rarely does it actually escalate to murder. However, this episode involves just that, as well as murder mystery dinners, hidden bedrooms, and more.

154: Forensic Breakthrough: Dawn Sanchez - NASA Robot Jan 26, 2021
    Show notes

Dawn Sanchez goes missing with zero evidence of what happened aside from an eye witness who refuses to testify. The main suspect is let go due to lack of evidence until years later when investigators get a tip. The tip indicates Dawn's body may have been there at one point, but she still wasn't found. Police were grabbing at straws until they enlisted the help of NASA.
