Can Departed Saints Pray for Us Who Are Still Alive? Jun 03, 2020

Episode 458 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. Can we be filled the Holy Spirit by asking to be filled with him? How do I receive the Holy Spirit like on Pentecost?

    2. I have often heard people say after the death of a loved one, "I really miss my dad, but I know that he is now looking out for me." They often point to rainbows, white feathers, or other "signs" of evidence of their loved one's continuing presence in their lives. As a pastor, I have struggled with how to respond to this idea. I know that for them it is sentimentally comforting and helpful, but I also know that it is a false comfort. A believer who dies is in the presence of God, not floating about over us. And a non-believer has his attention quite occupied in other ways. Even though I have taught about our hope in Christ and the reality for a believer that being absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, members of my own congregation would say things like this. Any thoughts on what one can say to popular but misguided thoughts about death?

    3. Do Satanists and witches blaspheme the Holy Spirit? Is that true? Can anyone be forgiven?

    4. Thanks for your radio program. What you're doing is important because I don't see that most believers have a basic knowledge of what the Bible teaches. I listen to you while I work in my engineering office. Here is my question: can the believers who have already gone to heaven pray for us still on earth?

If We Go to Heaven When We Die, What is the Point of Our Resurrection? Jun 02, 2020

Episode 457 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. I've been taking the time to study the Bible, and your show has been very helpful. My question is, in Romans 3:31, Paul asks if faith nullifies the law. He answers, "Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law." Does this mean that when our faith is sincere and we start to have victory over sin or do good works, that our works somehow uphold the law?

    2. How should I react to a preacher's teaching that I do not agree with?

    3. In 1 Kings 19:11–13 God spoke to Elijah through a still small voice. A friend of mine recently indicated that she wanted to hear from God more and that she needs to quiet her mind and wait for His still small voice. Is the way God spoke to Elijah for all believers today? How does God communicate to His children today?

    4. When Jesus returns, it says the dead will rise first. But relatives say that when someone has died they have gone to be with the Lord. Can you shed light on that?

    5. I have not been born again very long. I was living with my boyfriend when Jesus came to me. We immediately ceased fornication as we are not married, but we continue to live together. I am currently on a break from work, and I have a daughter from a previous relationship. As I am not working due to a mental health injury I sustained at work, I can not afford to move out. There is absolutely no fornication or anything of that nature. Am I still saved?

How Should Christians Respond to Demon Possession? Jun 01, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 456 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. Does 1 Corinthians 11 mean a married woman needs to wear a head covering anytime she is in public? I have read where someone said that the Greek wording indicates that the women were to keep the head covering on when praying or prophesying as if it was something they were expected to wear in public but were pulling it off in the church when doing these activities. Are women to wear this all of the time? I have also read quotes from church leaders from early in the church requiring this. Were they requiring it all of the time?

    2. I've had an on-again, off-again relationship with my mother, who struggles with mental illness. When things are good, they're great. When they aren't, she can be really abusive, and I always end up being the enemy. A few people have told me that it is time to let it go. Unfortunately, I've never received an apology from her, it just goes back to the way things were until she goes through another cycle. I mean, I love my mom and I forgive her, but I guess my question is, when it comes to forgiveness, does there come a time when, for self-preservation, there is a time to let that relationship go? Or is that being selfish? Am I being a bad son for letting her go, if that cycle keeps going without any sign of letting up?

    3. Mark 1:15 states that Jesus began his ministry by proclaiming that "the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe the gospel". My understanding of the gospel is that, at its core, it is about how Jesus justifies us through his finished work on the cross. Without the crucifixion, there would be no gospel. But it is clear from the Gospels that Jesus did not reveal how he would die until later in his ministry, and even when he did, his disciples did not fully understand what he was saying. So what was the content of the gospel that Jesus was proclaiming compared with the gospel that, for example, Paul proclaims in Romans? It seems that Jesus' message is linked to the kingdom of God. If so, does that mean that our proclamation of the gospel is deficient if it does not include "the kingdom of God" and how this ties in with the message of justification?

    4. If one feels that they are demonically possessed, how do they get the demons out of the body? I know in the bible, swine were filled with demons that were possessing a man. How can we do it in modern-day culture?

Episode 455 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. Hello, my name is Lou from Vincenza, Italy. I trust this note finds you and your families all well and safe from the virus. My question is regarding 2 Samuel 21:1–14, this passage has always perplexed me. It appears that David allows seven of Saul's heirs to be put to death by the Gibeonites for revenge and in order to answer prayer on behalf of the land (v. 14). Am I reading this correctly? Is there a deeper meaning that I'm missing?

    2. When you are attacked by demons, how does that affect your salvation?

    3. How should we interpret the psalms? I heard someone say that all the psalms are about Jesus and not just the messianic ones. Isn't that overdoing it? Some of the Psalms speak of sin and envy and fleshly problems. This seems to be some kind of overly Christological Hermeneutic? I heard Martin Luther had interpreted Psalm 1 as thinking of Christ as the Blessed Man in 1513, but then when he came back to the book decades later he changed his mind and interpreted it literally.

    4. I am on several different medications to battle some odd anxiety issues that I have, for really no apparent reason. I know that pharmacy comes from the Greek word pharmakeia, which means witchcraft. I know that we are forbidden in God's word to associate with witchcraft, and so I've had this burden on my spirit about being on medications, but without them I physically cannot function. What are your thoughts on that?

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. The San Diego Union Tribune reported that churches will now be allowed to hold drive in services. Now that congregations are able to physically gather in this limited way, how would you advice church leaderships to utilize this method of gathering effectively and should the church administer the sacraments of baptism and the Lord's Supper during this time especially in the light of social distancing and the specific order of refraining from "direct or indirect physical touch with others?"

    2. What sort of music should be played in church?

    3. When praying, say for a healing from God, should a person thank God for that specific healing as if it has already happened? What if God chooses not to heal? Thank you.

What Can I Do About My Husband's Gaming Addiction? May 27, 2020

Episode 453 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. How would we reconcile Paul's proclamation in Acts 17:26–27, that he made man for the expressed purpose of seeking him and finding him, and his proclamation in Romans 3:11 that no one seeks for God because of their fallen condition?

    2. How do you understand the end of the age in Mark 13? What does it mean that those who endure to the end will be saved?

    3. What can I do about my husband's gaming addiction?

    4. Can you explain the details of the rationale behind the law in Leviticus 18:19? How does this law fit into the context of this section of Leviticus, the law is concerning menstruation? It's mentioned alongside a bunch of other laws about incest, adultery, and homosexuality. Is this a law we should follow today? And if so, how do we know from the text that we should? If not, how do we know from the text that we shouldn't?

How Did We Get So Many Different Cultures from Adam and Eve? May 26, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 452 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. What is the difference between God's will and providence?

    2. Does it matter what Bible translation you read?

    3. Everyday I wake up wondering if I am saved. It doesn't matter how much I have prayed, how much I try not to do the things that I've asked forgiveness for. I just wake up with this monkey on my back, that I'm not saved. Everyday for 8 years I've gone through this, and I don't want to go through it no more. It has left me wanting it to be over, to be done with life. I'm just wondering what it is that I should do? If I'm making the same mistake again and again, then maybe I'm not truly repenting. It has left me very impatient with people around me, with myself. I feel like all day long I am constantly begging for forgiveness and just feeling extremely depressed.

    4. How did so many cultures and people come from Adam and Eve?

    5. I have been using the psalms more to inspire my own prayers, but I keep running into these moments in the psalms where the psalmist will claim his own innocence, that he'll appeal his own innocence so that God will listen to him. For instance, in Psalm 17:1–5 we hear David do this. Is the psalmist actually innocent, as he is claiming to be? And if so, I kind of find it hard to echo this prayer because other passages describe how deep sin goes in the heart. Am I supposed to have the same confidence in my own innocence that David had? Am I supposed to see this as a prayer of Christ, who actually is innocent? And if so, how does this inform my own prayers.

How Can the Gospel Help In My Present Pain and Anguish? May 25, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 451 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. I've come across a teaching that says, on one hand, that a person is saved by grace through faith, yet it also says that works play a role in the final judgment and are "necessary" for salvation. This is a confusing teaching. Is this a biblical understanding of salvation?

    2. Why the focus on homosexuality if divorce is more prevalent and equally a sin?

    3. If my heart is pure will it outweigh my worldly ways?

    4. When she was younger, my wife was molested. She feels God brought her into the world only to be taken advantage of. I try to talk to her about the gospel, how all our pain and anguish are answered in the gospel. I feel inadequate in being able to guide her or to turn to Scripture to show here what it is that I find is my comfort. My question is, what do I do? Where do I go to be able to help guide her as she is going through this and help her understand that the gospel isn't only for when you die, but for now, when you are alive here on earth?

Should I Attend My Gay Son's Wedding? with Special Guest Dr. Michael Horton May 22, 2020

Episode 450 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. Does the Holy Spirit dwell within a believer physically or relationally? I read in the Old Testament that the Holy Spirit came into and onto people and I don't know if that gives guidance to my New Testament understanding. Whether right or wrong on this, should it affect my understanding of the baptizing, filling or works of the Holy Spirit?

    2. Could you please explain Open Theism to me? I don't understand how I can trust God if it is true. How Can God not know the future? If he is waiting for us and reacting to our choices, how can we trust in his promises? Can you give me some Bible verses to stand on?

    3. If God doesn't alwasy deliver us from great persecution or suffering, how I can trust God to be a merciful and loving God. All the Psalms and Proverbs tell us that he is there and he will protect us, when obviously that is not what happened. I have a very difficult time aligning that in my mind and the verses in the Scripture, which I trust to be the Word of God and the truth. Please help me with that.

    4. I'm trying to figure out whether or not to attend my son's gay wedding ceremony. He knows that I do not believe gay marriage is actually marriage, but he still wants me to be at the ceremony. A friend recommended that I attend the ceremony but not the reception as there will be same-sex dancing, kissing, and celebrating. I would appreciate your thoughts.

When Should the Church Defy the State? May 21, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 449 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    CoreChristianity.com

Key questions answered in today's show:

    1. If I have repented from a sin, does that mean I should never do it again, or if I do, does it mean I didn't really repent? I ask the Lord for forgiveness and try to not do those sins again, but I do. What am I doing wrong?

    2. What does it mean to put my trust in Christ instead of just believing or even admiring the facts about him?

    3. I'm in CA and as of today churches are not allowed to have in-person gatherings. My pastor and elder board have decided that we are resuming in church services on May 31 with or without the governor's approval. I think the church has a responsibility to witness to the community by being law-abiding, even though I live in a community that has been very lightly touched by the coronavirus. My husband thinks that the church has a duty to minister to the spiritual needs of the church body and that supersedes the governer's edict about in-person gatherings. Could you shed some light on when it is appropriate for the church to defy government edicts? Will my church water down its witness by defying the governor's rules? Is this a slippery slope?

    4. I am wondering about how streaming has affected the church in these times. I haven't seen a lot of grieving on my part from people. Rather, they try to make streaming something we should be happy about. And I mean I'm not happy about it. When churches are allowed to gather again, however that looks, do you think churches should still make streaming an option or should leaders call for physical gatherings and make that a priority for people who are able to gather and not hindered with physical ailments?
