Are the Bad Things That Happen In This Life A Part of God's Will? Sep 23, 2020

    1. We're struggling to decide whether we should go to a church where we don't feel as comfortable or to one that we can agree with theologically. Do you have any advice?

    2. If God exists, does that mean we have to assume everything that happens is what he wants to happen?

    3. How do you understand Revelation 18:11–13? I have seen this section of Scripture floating around and people saying that it teaches that the Bible is against slavery because it associates the end of slavery with the fall of Babylon. Does this passage condemn slavery? And if it does how do you make sense of the bible allowing for slavery in the Old Testament?

    4. What does Hebrews 12:22 mean? Did that church have a vision of heaven or something?

How Will I Make It To Heaven When I Keep Sinning? Sep 22, 2020

    1. Why does Paul say that those who have faith are children of Abraham when Hebrews says Jesus mediates a better covenant than the old one? These seem to me like two opposing attitudes toward the Old Testament. How can I make sense of this?

    2. I am a believer, and I'm wondering whether I should have a traditional burial or if I can get cremated when I die? Cremation is much cheaper than a traditional burial, but I know someday I will be resurrected. Will God be angry at me for taking the cheaper option financially? I don't have an answer when I pray.

    3. Approximately when will Christ be returning? In how many years?

    4. I accepted Jesus many years ago, but I still sin. How will I make it to heaven when I still sin? I do not always perfectly obey. I am still sinful. What if I am not close enough to God? What if I don't read my Bible and pray enough; or have enough good works?

    5. Is the Kingdom of God something that exists today, or is it something that we are waiting for in the future?

    2. What does Paul mean by "my gospel" in 2 Timothy?

    3. In Ephesians 6:4, Paul tells fathers not to provoke their children. What does this look like? How do I know I'm provoking my child instead of disciplining and instructing them?

    4. In 2 Corinthians 5:21, what does it mean that Christ became sin? Other places in Scripture affirm Jesus was sinless, and that he was God, so I am having a hard time understanding what Paul is trying to say here.

Will Those Deceived by False Prophets Still Enter the Kingdom of God? Sep 18, 2020

    Show Notes

    1. If Jesus had limited knowledge due to his human nature, does he now have full omniscience being seated at the right hand of the Father?

    2. Why is David allowed to eat the Bread of Presence in 1 Samuel 21? Leviticus 24 sounds pretty straight forward that only the priests and their family could eat the bread. I understand that Jesus makes reference to this event in Luke 6 in order to show the Pharisees that they were incorrect about how to interpret the Law, and that he, being God, knew and applied the proper interpretation of the Law. Still, I don't understand why David was allowed to eat the bread in the first place.

    3. Can you follow a false prophet into the kingdom of God?

    4. If we are born in sin, how could Jesus not be a sinner in that he was born to a sinner?

    5. I hear the word love used so many different times, and it seems like everyone has a different interpretation. How can it be interpreted so many different ways?

    1. If only the Father knows when Christ shall return, why does Revelation say that the Bride has made herself ready for Christ?

    2. When Paul warned the Corinthians that "whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord" in 1 Corinthian 11, does that mean we need to prepare ourselves ahead of time so that we can take the Lord's supper in a worthy manner?

    3. What did Jesus mean he said, "Woe to the Pharisees for they devour widow's houses"?

    4. I was wondering in what order should the third use of the law be preached in a sermon? Does preaching it out of order risk turning the gospel into law?

Why Do the Ten Commandments Sound So Negative? Sep 16, 2020

Episode 533 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    CoreChristianity.com

    1. Why did God choose Jacob over Esau or David over Saul when they were all moral screw-ups?

    2. I heard your answer to Jade about there not being any shame at the judgment seat of Christ for believers. I was wondering, what does that mean, then, for our works to be tested, and what we build on Christ will last, but what we build of hay will be burned and our souls will be saved but only as through fire? What does that mean that there is no pain at the judgment of believers before we reign with Christ?

    3. What do Paul and Jesus mean when they say that the bread and wine are Christ's body and blood? Is this metaphorical?

    4. Why are the 10 commandments all about telling us what we shouldn't do? Doesn't this focus our attention on negative traits instead of what we should be doing for one another and for God?

Is Prosperity the Promise of the Gospel? Sep 15, 2020

Episode 532 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    CoreChristianity.com

    1. I have a question on 1 Peter 4:6 which says "For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does." As far as I understand, there is no opportunity for salvation once people died. but in the passage above, what does that mean "gospel was preached to those who are even dead"?

    2. Do you think it is right for the church to pay pastors? Wouldn't it be better for pastors to earn their living at a job rather than asking other people to support them? Isn't this just using God's name to guilt people and take advantage of them?

    3. Why do some Bibles have more books in them than other ones? Who decided that those other books, the Apocrypha, shouldn't be in some Bibles?

    4. What makes the prosperity gospel so bad? Why wouldn't I want God's blessings in my life?

    5. I was driving to Las Vegas last weekend and saw a couple of billboards that Jesus saves, repent, the end is coming, etc. Is this really an effective way to witness?

How On Earth Was the Bible Composed and Compiled? Sep 14, 2020

Episode 527 | Adriel Sanchez and Bill Maier answer caller questions.

    Show Notes

    1. Sometimes I feel like the most inspirational verses in the Bible actually leave me feeling hopeless. Like 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." I'm not always happy, I don't always pray, and I often forget to be thankful. If this is God's will for me, why do I have such a hard time living it out?

    2. I heard a TV pastor talk about the bible verse, "God is no respecter of persons." He went on to say that this meant that God does not respect people, only Jesus. Is this correct? I know God loves people, perhaps everyone, but does he respect them?

    3. I know the Bible talks about Scripture being God-breathed, but who was the first person that started writing the Bible, and how has everything been compiled into one book?

    4. How can I reach out, on a spiritual level, to a friend and fellow Christian who has fallen away to drugs and alcohol and has seemingly lost his love for the Lord?

    1. Adriel: As you know, Nancy, writing a book is a lot of work. What did you see in the church and the lives of believers around you that made you feel that this book needed to be written?

    2. I'm getting really burnt out as a parent right now. I already have a full-time job, and now I have to be a homeschool teacher to my 3 kids due to schools not opening. Finding time and space for devotions was hard enough before! Can you give me any advice to navigate this season in life?

    3. When things are going well in my life, I feel like it's clear that God is working in and through me. But sometimes I don't feel God's presence at all. My prayer life feels dry and it seems like no one is listening. How do I get back to that place where I feel like I am being used by God?

    4. Adriel: I'm curious, Nancy, as you studied the idea of emptiness throughout Scripture, what did you learn about the nature and character of God?

    2. How do I position a conversation regarding someone who is an atheist or a Buddhist about Jesus, without them getting upset with me? And how do I do so effectively in such a short amount of time?

    3. My wife and I haven't been able to conceive, and we are thinking about pursuing in vitro fertilization. Is this an option for Christians?

    4. I've heard some Christians defend the use of Creeds and Confessions in the church because they teach orthodox interpretations of Scripture. How is this any different than the Roman Catholic view that elevates Sacred Tradition to the same level as Scripture?
