    On this episode, we discuss the utilization of injectable medications in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. We compare and contrast the different GLP-1 receptor agonists as well as the various insulin products. We review some dosing strategies for both basal and prandial insulin.     Opioid Use Disorder - *ACPE Accredited* May 24, 2021

    On this episode we review the treatment and management of opioid use disorder (OUD). We discuss some background on the opioid epidemic as well as some physiologic changes that are seen with long-term opioid use. We also talk about the diagnosis and work-up of a patient with OUD as well as the three medications used to treat OUD. We close with some tips on managing opioid induced constipation that can occur with two of the OUD treatment options.

    Managing Dyslipidemia: A Tale of Two Guidelines May 10, 2021

    On this episode, we discuss the management of dyslipidemia. We start by reviewing some basic pathophysiology. Then, we discuss the evidence-based medications utilized for controlling patients' lipid panels as well as the long-term prevention of cardiovascular events. We also breakdown the 2018 lipid guidelines from the American Heart Association, and contrast them with the 2020 American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists/American College of Endocrinology's lipid guidelines.

    Cultivating Empathy, Compassion, and Self-Confidence During Clinical Rotations Apr 29, 2021

    On this episode, we are joined by Dr. Sandy Diec, PharmD and Kyle Fischer (PharmD Candidate 2021). Dr. Diec is a clinical professor at Texas A&M College of Pharmacy where she teaches as well as works as an ambulatory care clinical pharmacy specialist. Kyle is a P4 at Texas A&M College of Pharmacy, and he will be receiving his PharmD in May 2021. Dr. Diec is very passionate about helping students (and healthcare professionals in general) cultivate empathy and compassion towards patients that have been entrusted into their care. We discuss how this is applicable to students that are on clinical rotations. We also talk about tactics to grow self-confidence and other ways to ensure you get the most out of rotations.
