In this episode, Attorney Jay Ruane investigates the different types of hearings you could be subjected to when you have a license in Connecticut.
The most common DMV hearings in Connecticut are for DUI, Medical Review, and Document Integrity.
If you are arrested for a Connecticut DUI in Bridgeport, Stamford, Fairfield, Hartford, New Haven, or any other Connecticut town or city, you face action from both the court system (criminal action) and the Department of Motor Vehicles (administrative action). The DMV has the right to suspend your Connecticut driver's license separate from the courts. Another DUI penalty is having an ignition interlock device (IID) installed on your car. Many people waive their right to a DMV hearing or do not try to properly defend themselves, but at Ruane Attorneys, we always help our clients at the DMV hearing and fight for their Connecticut driver's license.
A Medical Review hearing with the Connecticut DMV hearing occurs if someone believes that you are unfit to drive. This might be a police officer who pulls you over in Connecticut, or another driver who reports your driving to the DMV. The Connecticut DMV will review your medical history to determine if it is safe for you to drive or if you need to give up your license.
Finally, there is the Document Integrity hearing. If you are caught with a fake or fraudulent driver's license or Connecticut ID, the DMV will review your situation and attempt to take the license or ID from you.
