Reese fired back that the Tigers would rather go to the Obama household to celebrate their title.

    Show notes

Dan Wetzel and SI’s Pat Forde & Ross Dellenger break down all of the action from the men’s and women’s college basketball national championship games.

The UConn Huskies bested the San Diego State Aztecs in the men’s national championship on Monday night. With yet another title at Connecticut, the podcast is ready to deem UConn a true blue blood and heavyweight in the sport.

Sparks flew in the women’s national championship game between the LSU Tigers and Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday night. LSU won the game, but the fallout surrounding the trash talk between LSU’s Angel Reese and Iowa’s Caitlin Clark has dominated news cycles. The guys believe that trash talk is a part of the game and the tone of needing to protect the student athletes from it should be frowned upon.

In college football news, the guys have updates regarding the Jeremy Pruitt saga at Tennessee and yet another case in which the NCAA is being sued over backpay owed to students.

After their spring game, Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh declared that this current team is “the best he’s ever seen at Michigan,” which leaves the guys in disbelief as the regular season is still four months away.

    Show notes

Dan Wetzel and SI’s Pat Forde & Ross Dellenger give their thoughts on the latest congressional meetings that took place concerning name, image & likeness for student athletes.

The house of representatives met today to discuss the future of NIL across the college athletics landscape. The meeting was considered a circus by some and concerning for those that have an interest in the future of athlete compensation. The guys debate whether or not congress should even handle this issue due to their lack of knowledge on the subject.

Men’s Final Four is set, reacting to Jack Swarbrick’s appearance & who will win the National Championship? Mar 27, 2023
    Show notes

Dan Wetzel and SI’s Pat Forde & Ross Dellenger provide their thoughts on the final four teams standing in the men’s college basketball tournament on today’s episode.

In a surprising turn of events no #1 ranked teams have made the final four. Instead, the Miami Hurricanes, UConn Huskies, San Diego State Aztecs & Florida Atlantic Owls have clinched the final spots in this year’s tournament. In dramatic fashion, each of these teams have made great runs and are shifting the narrative that suggest NIL favors the Power Five schools.

Miami’s journey has been especially interesting: from an FBI investigation to John Ruiz’s generous contributions trying to make them a contender. The guys give their predictions on which team will be cutting down the nets in next Monday’s National Championship.

The highly talented and highly ranked Alabama Crimson Tide were bounced from the tournament by San Diego State, so the podcast determines whether or not that is a good thing for the Alabama program after being surrounded by so much drama this season.

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick came on the show last week and made his impact felt with his new NIL proposal. After a couple days, the show gives their thoughts on how to proceed with NIL as well as the ethics of income transparency for student athletes.

The Arkansas Razorbacks head basketball coach Eric Musselman was very happy to make the sweet sixteen, shown by his disregard for upper body clothing when the Razorbacks advanced.

Men’s Final Four predictions, Chris Beard hired by Ole Miss & Syracuse’s Brent Axe saga Mar 15, 2023
    Show notes

Dan Wetzel and SI’s Pat Forde & Ross Dellenger give their men’s March Madness Final Four predictions along with reacting to the firing of Syracuse’s Brent Axe on today’s episode.

Longtime Syracuse radio host Brent Axe was fired on Monday for his “negative comments” on the Syracuse Orange basketball program. The guys give their opinions on Axe’s firing, which they find curious considering former Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim’s affiliation with the network.

In other basketball news, the Ole Miss Rebels have found their newest head basketball coach in Chris Beard, a move which leaves Texas fans baffled after the former Longhorns coach was fired earlier in the year for domestic violence charges, which have since been dropped. Beard’s hiring leaves the guys exhausted with the hypocrisy of college athletic departments feigning an interest in morality, with this latest hiring shedding light on the pattern of reputation-cleaning at secondary schools.

Selection Sunday bracket reaction: how far will Duke go, can Rodney Terry secure the Texas job & who is the most interesting person in the tournament? Mar 13, 2023
    Show notes

Dan Wetzel & SI’s Pat Forde give their reactions to the 2023 NCAA tournament bracket reveal. The guys break down who has the most to gain and the most to lose in the upcoming tournament including some pretty big names.

The podcast starts by discussing how the coverage of Alabama’s Brandon Miller will unfold throughout the tournament. The Alabama faithful aren’t helping the team by getting shirts banned at the SEC tournament, but that didn’t seem to affect one of the best teams in the nation.

Kansas Jayhawks head coach Bill Self had to miss the Big-12 tournament due to a health condition, but he is ready to take his team on a deep run. Purdue’s Matt Painter is trying to finally get the Boilermakers over the hump & the gang believes he has a team that can make some noise. The Houston Cougars fall into the Purdue category with a disciplined team that plays hard defense, but Kelvin Sampson will have to figure out a way to score in a very competitive division.

The blue chip teams are complex this year with Kentucky having all the tools, but being unable to make it all click when they need it. On the other side of the spectrum, the Duke Blue Devils are white hot and Jon Scheyer could use a deep run to solidify himself as the guy for Duke.

Lastly, in news of the weird, our neighbors up north in Canada have provided clarity to whether or not flipping someone the bird is illegal, and there is a new drinking guidance for the country.

2:30 How will Alabama fare in the tournament among the distractions?

17:00 Bill Self is returning from medical leave to lead the #1 seed Kansas Jayhawks

21:00 It is finally the Purdue Boilermakers time to shine

26:02 Is John Calipari feeling the heat after a cold streak in the tournament?

29:55 Can Shaka Smart make it past the 1st round?

33:05 Jon Scheyer lead Duke to a #5 seed

36:30 Rodney Terry is looking to secure the Texas job with tournament wins

41:00 Rick Pitino and Iona are back in the tournament

47:50 Kelvin Sampson and Houston are looking to make a deep run

Nick Saban’s newest NIL comments, Texas’ starting quarterback battle & why the Pac-12 should follow the Big East Mar 08, 2023
    Show notes

Dan Wetzel and SI’s Pat Forde & Ross Dellenger review all of the biggest stories to come out of Nick Saban’s latest one-on-one interview including the new rule changes and NIL guardrails.

Ross got to speak with Alabama Crimson Tide football coach Nick Saban, who gave plenty for the podcast to discuss. The topic of creating value for the student athletes sparked ideas of what a university values compared to the students. Saban was also unhappy with the premise of having to outbid another coach in order to get a player to commit to Alabama.

With quarterback Arch Manning arriving on campus at the University of Texas, the competition for the starting spot is heating up. Quinn Ewers is trying to hold onto the position while Arch Manning is getting settled into the college environment. The guys discuss college football’s biggest QB battle.

In other quarterback news, top prospect Dylan Raiola took an official visit with the University of Southern California, in what the show deems: the best weekend a person could have. The Trojans have now emerged as the top school to land Raiola after Heisman-winner Caleb Williams likely departs for the NFL next spring.

Pat has some advice for the Pac-12 during their search for expansion: follow the Big East’s lead. After finding their conference identity, the Big East was able to get rid of the distractions while fortifying competitiveness and rivalries for years.

Lastly, in news of the weird, Mexico’s president tweeted a picture of a famous mythological figure.

1:00 The impact of Nick Saban on an interviewer

9:15 Nick Saban’s thoughts on the current NIL landscape

32:00 The Quinn Ewers & Arch Manning derby has begun

38:30 Dylan Raiola took an official visit to USC
