Minnesota Nice? History of the stereotype, awareness & changing Minnesota Culture Jan 26, 2021
    Show notes

Minnesota Nice-commonly spoken of but rarely studied in depth. What are the layers of this phenomenon.

While it may seem like a nice term of endearment-it's actually a misnomer. Minnesota nice is actually a pretty negative stereotype about people who live in MN & today I'm sharing some of the traits it usually represents, how it came to be & how we can be aware and call it out when it's happening.

Starting a business during the pandemic, using TikTok to get sales & the life of a sidehustler Jan 19, 2021
    Show notes

Like many of us, the 2020 pandemic impacted Northern Ties founder, Jacklyn Rassmussen. While in quarantine and on furlough (Graphic Designer for Child Care/Arcades), Jacklyn not only had time to plan and complete projects around the house, she also began experimenting with reverse tie dye (or acid wash) fabric treatment--a technique that uses a bleach solution to chemically change fabric colors with organic, one-of-a kind results.
What began as a personal project to satisfy her own creative curiosity (and to prevent the loss of her sanity) soon took on a life of its own once friends, family, and coworkers saw her designs and requested commissioned articles of clothing. With her German Shepard Dogs, Maxx and Meeka by her side, Jacklyn soon discovered she had a passion for the process and started bleaching everything. And that’s where it all began, Northern Ties was founded on June 15th, 2020.

The Power of Ice Baths for Health & Your Immune System, Nose breathing & Saunas and embracing the cold Minnesota Winters Dec 08, 2020
    Show notes

During this time, we do what we can to take care of our bodies.

But here's the thing-we live in one of the coldest states in the world-think about that. We have something that not a lot of people do & have to deal with. While most mumble and hibernate, there's a new movement of people who are embracing the cold and utilizing it for their health-something we all need right now.

Noah is one of the co-owners of Embrace North, a new concept of a gym that utilizes the power of cold therapy through ice baths, both in tubs and in the frozen lakes as well as heat therapy with their custom sauna and through the power of nasal breathing and mindfulness.

Growing through TikTok, adjusting to MN Culture, Being your real self online & Cancel Culture with KDWB Radio Host @ewhiteonthemic Nov 24, 2020
    Show notes

    E. White is kind of what happens when a bro and a hipster have a baby: super energetic, very loud, but always down to go off the beaten path! Born and raised in Philadelphia, E. was brought up to have pride for his city, and is excited to embrace the Twin Cities with that same love. He always tries to be the plug for all things local, whether it’s a neighborhood coffee shop opening up, or a cool underground art show downtown. If he’s not doing that on air or on social media, he’s probably hoping to make you laugh!

Outside the studio, E. is a huge craft beer nerd that loves exploring every taproom possible. He tries to road trip at least once a month, and loves documenting his stops along the way. He also keeps really involved with the arts as an avid photographer, videographer, and musician, and often performs his raps on his Instagram! He’s also excited to dive into the comedy scene in the Twin Cities, as he’s always looking for open mics to hit up. He also brings that same energy to his content on his constantly growing TikTok page! Not to mention, he’s always talking about hockey there too, as he is obsessed with the sport. Simply put, he definitely “rides his own wave” and tries to stay positive and happy along the way.
