Vol. 65 - The Artist In The Ambulance by Thrice Sep 06, 2023

Show notes

Late night, mics on, hear the podcast squeal about our thoughts on this record and how we feel. We’re joined by our good friend and guitar wizard, Caleb Rains to discuss The Artist In The Ambulance by Thrice in celebration of its 20th anniversary. We’ve got lots of counting to do trying to keep up with our OC quartet and their crazy time signatures. We attempt all this while trying not to fly too close to the sun whilst staring at it. Don’t tell and we won’t ask where you land on this record. But if you’re curious, you can find out whether we think this record has more to offer than just flashing lights and sound.

Vol. 63 - So Long Ago The Garden by Larry Norman Aug 23, 2023

Show notes

Last year we were only visiting a planet with Larry Norman. Now we're journeying back into the past listening to So Long Ago the Garden. This is the second album in his acclaimed trilogy. Will it be the Same Old Story where Larry wows us with the follow up to his landmark 1972 record? Or has he bitten into the forbidden fruit, and we’ll have our spirits baroquen. Meet Us At The Airport so we can Fly, Fly, Fly back to 1973 to catch a connecting flight to So Long Ago The Garden.

Vol. 61 - Kyle Laster & Jordan McGee of Sons Aug 09, 2023

Show notes

We just can’t seem to keep quiet about Keep Quiet by Sons. We’re joined by Kyle Laster and Jordan McGee from the band to hear more about it. There are a lot of ups and downs regarding this record for them. We loved hearing about this time in their lives, the history of the band, and Keep Quiet’s legacy. This was a special episode for us being able to provide an opportunity for these artists to speak about their music in a way they haven’t been able to before. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Vol. 60 - The Great Depression by Blindside Aug 02, 2023

Show notes

We might seem a little down based on the record we’re covering today, but it’s actually a wishlist record that we’re covering on its 18th anniversary to celebrate TJ’s birthday! So we are going into The Great Depression but for a joyous occasion. This is our first Blindside record on the show, and we’re excited to hear what these four Swedes have in store for us. It’s no secret where TJ’s landing on this one. Are Kylan and Josh to follow TJ in their assessment, or will they come to rest in their own great depression this time? You could ask us now, or you could listen for yourself to find out.

Vol. 59 - Fourth From the Last by The W’s w/Valentine Hellman Jul 26, 2023

Show notes

We’re covering Fourth From the Last by The W’s to celebrate its 25th anniversary. And if that wasn’t exciting enough, we’re joined by one of the W’s, Valentine Hellman! Val was a saxophonist and occasional clarinetist in the band. We had such an amazing time with Val hearing first-hand about the early days of the band, all the songs on this record, and more! Why don’t you skid-il-ly-do on over and celebrate a record that’s Fourth From the Last in the alphabet, but first in our hearts.

Vol. 57 - Aaron Newberry of Sons Jul 12, 2023

Show notes

We had the pleasure of talking to Aaron Newberry from Sons and many others about his music career. We considered making bingo cards for all the bands we mention in the interview, but it might be easier to keep track of the bands Aaron hasn’t played with. Of course we talk about Sons and their record, Keep Quiet. Aaron’s making music under the name Kid Again, and he’s working on tons of really cool projects these days. We had a wonderful time talking with Aaron about music, composing, and his artistic process. We hope you enjoy our conversation!

Vol. 56 - Keep Quiet by Sons Jul 10, 2023

Show notes

We’ve been getting pretty rambunctious on the show lately so we’re going to try being a little more reserved while we cover Keep Quiet by Sons. It seems the record’s title was somewhat prophetic, and the buzz around it was accordingly hushed. Josh is looking to change that, however, and bring awareness to this overlooked record. Will Kylan and TJ Believe in Something after listening, or will they feel it’s nothing new Under the Sun?
