    Episode 397 - Valentiger Feb 23, 2012
    Show notes

Here is another from the Lost and Found Department. My apologises to this excellent band. From Midwestern landscapes of Grand Rapids Michigan, and the vinyl collection of parents' basements, is Valentiger. Valentiger leans on the time-tested melodies of bygone days, unearthing and reinventing the sounds of the 60s while drawing heavily from contemporary ideals and experiences. The energy of both old and new provides for albums that are rich in homespun warmth, as well as a live show that moves effortlessly from airy rock and roll, to harmony rich folk-rock, to subdued alt-country.

    Episode 395 - Brett Randell Feb 12, 2012
    Show notes

With lyrics that weave stories and muse over feelings many seem to take for granted, Brett Randell is a musician on a mission to connect the world. The 23-year-old New Yorker, currently living in Austin, TX, croons with a clear and powerful voice which is bringing emotion and energy to the singer/songwriter genre. His soulful, poetry-based style places emphasis on intense lyrics, catchy melodies, and emotional stories. Despite being surrounded by music his entire life, Brett only recently realized his passion for performing and songwriting. Though both his sister and brother performed in bands throughout their teenage years, Brett shied away from any musical pursuits and stuck to his passion for drawing and writing. It wasn't until purchasing an acoustic guitar for his 20th birthday that he had even considered writing a full song. Quickly putting pen to paper and fingers to fret, he unleashed the thoughts and feelings stored inside him for years. Within the first couple days of owning his guitar, he wrote the song that would be the ultimate goal for his musical endeavors, "Change the World." In 2008, barely nine months after picking up that guitar, Brett performed his music to a crowd of people from twenty-three countries in Milan, Italy. Later that year, in his second live performance, he opened for Pete Francis of the famous independent rock band, Dispatch. In 2009, Brett abandoned plans for a stable career in New York City and packed his bags for Austin, Texas – and he hasn't looked back since. Living and playing in the ‘Live Music Capital of The World' has developed and evolved Brett's style, especially with the collaboration of cellist Christopher Rains, pianist Wilyum Jerome, and drummer Music Read. In 2010, almost three years after writing his first song, Brett released his second CD – the five song EP "Glow," and toured the US and Europe, spanning the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany and France in December.

    Episode 394 - VooDoo Pilot Feb 09, 2012
    Show notes

This is the Real Deal! VooDoo Pilot is what Chicago Music is all about. These guys are in it for the long run. They are a dedicated hard working band that puts it out there every time.My apologises to VooDoo Pilot for the lateness of this post. There was a problem with the hard drive and I had to get it repaired in order to retreve this data. It was well worth the effort as you will hear.Ever since their first gig on a cold December night in 2000 at the Elbow Room in Chcago, IL, Voodoo Pilot has been cranckin out electric roots rock blues with soul passion and vengeance. They released a 5 song EP in 2001 and have 2 self produced (Sometimes and Turntable Lover) full length CDs since then with a 3rd due for release in the summer of 2006. The band has gigged all over Chicago and it's suburbs – and up to Beloit, WI. They have played in front of jump-blues masters "Roomfull of Blues", Texas-blues icons "The Fabulous Thunderbirds" and classic rockers "Molly Hatchet" and "Wishbone Ash". Voodoo Pilot has been featured multiple times on Chicago's 93 WXRT Local Anesthetic with Richard Milne and performed on Chicago's CAN TV. The band will be touring regionally in 2006-2007 to support the summer release of their new CD.

    Episode 393 - Stolen Silver Feb 05, 2012
    Show notes

Dan Myers and Levi Britton met in Traverse City, MI before Dan was old enough to consume alcohol, and Levi had just graduated from high school. As fate would have it, they were both hired to be in the Golden Garter Review, a group created by a wonderful tourist attraction called Dill's Olde Town Saloon that would recruit musically talented college students from colleges in the Midwest to come play for hungry crowds. After developing a strong friendship throughout their time together in the GGR, the two moved to Chicago and spent four years as roommates in the Logan Square neighborhood writing songs every night and appearing as fixtures in the locals bars. In 2001, they started a successful, critically acclaimed acoustic four- piece pop band called Down the Line, whom they have released five albums and toured with extensively. Additionally, Dan regularly plays violin and sings vocals with Gary Sinise the Lt. Dan Band and writing songs for major movie studios. His most recent placement was in The Weinstein Company's Hoodwinked Too: Hood vs Evil. As time has passed, Levi is back in Traverse City ,both guys are married to wonderful women, and finally those long nights of writing sessions are paying off through their new art folk duo Stolen Silver.Comprised of ten original songs, Stolen Silver's self-titled debut is a journey of experiences amassed from ten years spent rooming, writing, touring, and living life fully. Co-produced by long-time collaborator and friend John Ovnik, the album was recorded in Chicago at Deaf Dog Music and draws inspiration from an array of their musical faves including Bon Iver, Nick Drake, Sufjan Stevens, Seals and Crofts, and Fleetwood Mac. "We put absolutely no limits or constraints on the sounds. We really wanted to exploit the inherent mood that each song, and sound, dictated on its own" says Myers. The result is a mix of captivatingly potent tunes that exemplify their knack for incisive personal narratives and emotional deliveries. Levi and Dan's unique ability to harmonize vocally takes center stage, but they play almost all the instruments as well.

This past summer the Chicago Tribune's music critic Greg Kot ?did a pre-Lolla interview of Kate on the Chicago Live! radio show and put her on WGN radio, the Windy City Live tv show? had Kate on to perform before she headed off to Berklee?, and Cathy Richardson The Macrodots had Kate open for their band at the Metropolis.
