    Round 3-

[2:8] Ok let’s chat about mining today. Loads of people have made a ton of money when they started mining bitcoin. So firstly, what is mining and secondly is it still a thing that people still making money off it?
    · Mining is getting paid to verify transactions
    · Kind of like a jury that works to audit the blockchain
    · Every time it happens you get paid
    · In terms of profitability, there are loads of calculators available, it’s profitable, that’s why people do it
    · New tech called Burst maps the free space on you hard drive & it’s eco friendly
    · There is a big difference between mining and minting, in minting you put down your own coins as proof of stake so you won’t do false verifications

[7:39] With the increased computing power and complexity of the transactions that are being verified, what happens if there are not enough miners verifying transactions?
    · If that happens to Bitcoin they will need to change to a proof of stake system
    · There should be such mass adoption that your wallet should automatically do it, but at this point the tech is not developed right now

[8:52] So mining is verifying transactions, what about Raiblocks, from what I understand there is no need to verify transactions? How does Raiblocks differ?
    · The transaction is being verified but it’s happening very quickly
    · Tech is new and difficult to explain
    · The lattice structure allows the transaction to verify much faster
[14:26] What would be some of the next steps someone could take to start investing in crypto? What coins do you currently hold?
    · Etherlend
    · CosCoin
    · Stellar Lumen
    · Ripple

    · Buy an external wallet, make sure it’s not second hand
    · You can back it up and be very safe
    · Don’t be lazy and leave it on the exchange
    · 2FA, Google Authenticator etc.

Bitcoin and other altcoins you should look into (2 of 3) Feb 12, 2018
    Show notes

Original Show Notes: Bitcoin and other coins you look into

Dominic Florczak. He has a B.pharm with distinction from the university of Witwatersrand and an MBA in business administration from Herriot watt university.

He’s is currently the managing director of a pharmaceutical company and is in charge of the firms corporate cryptocurrency portfolio. He’s an experienced trader dealing with both stocks and cryptocurrency.

    Welcome Dominic!

    Round 2-

[2:7] Bitcoin has received lot of attention and it is definitely the biggest coin by market cap. Let’s chat about some of the other coins you can buy.

Firstly, why did other coins started appearing, and how do you know which coins are good to buy?
    · Don’t buy coins based on hype
    · Determine why you believe in the product, the same way you would invest in the stock exchange
    · Raiblocks has a good real world use as a comparison
    · Always diversify your portfolio
    · There are secrecy coins that a lot of people value as well

[6:22] OK so Blockchain is the underlying technology is most of these coins, I’ve heard of a new type of coin called Raiblocks, does this still use Blockchain or what makes it different?
    · Raiblocks use a lattice which is different to Blockchain which takes multiple verification steps.
    · People who are miners will get paid to verify transactions
    · The lattice that Raiblocks uses is a different technology which is complicated
    · Blockchain is an immutable ledger of events which has a strong value proposition

[11:31] I always tell people that diversifying is important, from what I understand if your portfolio you’ve managed to diversify your coins. Can you tell our listeners a bit about why they should diversify and give an example?
    · Getting an assortment of the following:
    · Bank backed currencies- e.g. ripple & stellar lumen
    · Traditional cryptocurrency- Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum
    · Cryptotokens- Kucoin shares, CosCoin, B2Btoken
    · Token that gives you access to a platform- Vibe, FunFare, Kimcoin
    · Digital lending platforms- Etherlend
    · You could also put money into an ICO, but they’re just an idea (much higher risk)

[19:10] Do you think the days are coming where you will get paid in cryptocurrency?
    · Already happening, in Denmark (don’t quote me) half of your salary can get paid in Crypto

[25:17] When the next recession/global financial crisis does happen, do you think cryptocurrency will be adopted instead of gold?
    · Nothing stops people from carrying around their laptop with their tokens inside
    · It’s almost as physical as gold, albeit digital
    · It takes electricity, effort and hardware to make coins
    · It comes down to adoption

[28:45] Ok so let’s chat about what to do in a crash – I believe there is a coin called Tether that is linked to the USD? Should people rather move their money into tether instead of liquidating during a crash?
    · You don’t want to liquidate your portfolio, however there is a mass migration in China and a red envelope tradition where you give people money
    · Fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) caused people to start selling and a vicious downtrend

Everything You Need to Know About Cryptocurrency Feb 05, 2018
    Show notes

Special Episode Today all about Cryptoassets, blockchain, cryptocurrency and we’ll dive into a few like Bitcoin. Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency that was released in 2009 and has become the first currency of its kind in the modern age that does not need a central bank to function. It’s created a lot of buzz in the market and is a topic where there is loads of noise and if you don’t focus you can lose track of what you’re talking about.

We’ve got a cryptospecial over the next two weeks with today being the introduction to everything and then we’ll dive into our interviews with a guest that has a lot of knowledge on the topic. We split the podcast their interview up into 3 parts because there was just too much information for one episode.

Welcome Chainers to another edition of Chain of Wealth, as I mentioned before today isn’t an actual interview but rather a discussion between Katie and myself where we can explore the topic a bit, I’m a lot more technical on the topic and have done quite a bit of reading on it, and Katie has heard me muttering about this crypto, that crypto and so we decided to break down the topic so it’s super easy to understand.

    [3:32] Timing of cryptocurrencies
    · seems all of a sudden
    · Bitcoin was almost at $20,000 in December 2017 and now it’s under $8,000.

    · The actual maker is unknown.
    · Whitepaper in October 2008 entitled Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System.

    [9:32] What is mining?
    · The process of mining is solving mathematical problems to create the blockchain.
    · It becomes substantially harder to mine as time goes on.
    · People setup PCs to do this. Over time people discovered that graphic cards were better than CPUs to do this which even caused the share prices of AMD and Nvidea to go up.
    · Requires a substantial amount of power to mine a coin these days

[15:2] Is bitcoin a currency or what is it?
    · It is a new type of currency
    · Used world wide
    · Own a portion of a coin- you don’t have to own the whole thing

It is a nonprofit called District Mugs.

District Mugs introduces entrepreneurship to the homeless and low-income individuals in D.C. by teaching the homeless and low-income participants how to paint, market, and sell coffee mugs.

Their mission is to empower economically disadvantaged segments of our population by providing them with the opportunity to earn a small income while learning transferable skills.

Shreya, it is an honor to have you on the show, welcome!

[2:11] Tell us a little about yourself.
    · Grew up in India
    · Loads of people struggled to make ends meet
    · Studied economics at Brown University
    · Been volunteering in a shelter for the last year and started District Mugs shortly thereafter
    · Helped over 20 people today

[3:33] What is the difference between a nonprofit business and a “regular” business?
    · Purpose ownership & public support are the indicators
    · The mission is to benefit society and not to make profits
    · Public ownership – no one person holds all the ownership

    · When working at the shelter, realized there was a massive gap between the services and what people actually needed
    · Identified a serious gap to get these people employed by providing transferrable skills
    · The goal is to teach entrepreneurship and business skills, the mugs are a byproduct.

[6:38] What are the main obstacles that stand between you and your mission, and how do you plan to overcome them?
    · Time – relies on passionate volunteers, people are working free of cost
    · Transient homeless individuals- need to incentivize people to come to class & get them paid faster

[8:23] What is a long term goal you have for District Mugs?
    · Help participants run their own successful businesses
    · 2 people currently selling on Etsy, another person at the Eastern Market
    · Goals is to help people learn knowledge on business so they can start their own businesses
    · Provide a full time income

[9:26] How has the company changed over time?

    · Popup sales have worked great lately
    · Great support from the DC community
    · Frugal innovation- producing goods and services with as little cost as possible

[11:22] Where does most of your funding come from?
    · Started with a $800 donation from a corporate donation
