    · Yes, and no.

    · First of all- “Thank you!”
    · A lot of teachers put their job before themselves and have so much other going on
    · Know where your money is going!
    · Don’t be afraid to ask questions from your benefits coordinator!
    · Asking questions is key

    [17:47] What advice do you have for new parents when it comes to budgeting?
    · There is a lot of false information about how inexpensive children are
    · It can throw a wrench in your plans financially if you are not prepared
    · It’s a good idea to horde away money in preparation
    · Motherhood tax is real!

    [23:30] What is your investment philosophy?
    · Start yesterday and don’t look back!
    · Don’t wait too long to get in the market
    · Take the emotions out of investing
    · Vanguard accounts are great!

    [27:0] Where should you put your savings- meaning why should someone invest in the stock market or another savings vehicle rather than just keeping a ton of money in their savings account? What resources can they use to get a start?
    · Don’t squirrel money in your savings accounts
    · Terminology is weird you “save” for retirement, or “save” for a rainy day- people should say invest
    · Setup Roth IRAs from a young age
    · Do a search for “Vanguard” and find different blogs that write about their own experience

    Chris discusses way to tackle debt Jul 05, 2018

    Chris is the author behind the blog, Apathy Ends. Along with his wife, Chris had a student loan bill of $85,000, an expensive house and no savings.

    In the last 3 years, they have paid off $60,000 in debt while building a $90,000 nest egg.

    [3:2] So what triggered the beginning of massive debt payoff for you?
    · Graduated 7 years ago with over $85,000
    · 6.5-6.8% with one at 10%
    · Had more interest than the maximum amount allowed to deduct by the IRS
    · Often you get handcuffed to living paycheck to paycheck

    [5:2] How have you managed to accumulate so much in such a short time?
    · The bulk is increasing income
    · Gone up 2.5x, similar with Josh’s wife
    · Kept big costs low and not letting lifestyle inflation take over

    [9:2] What do you own now that you wouldn’t buy again for its current value?
    · First house- only put 3.5% down and therefore was house poor.
    · Fortunately bought at a good time in the market
    · Beer brewing equipment

    [11:14] What small things can a person do in very little time, with no money at all, to have a big impact?
    · Spending review- easy to do in a few hours
    · There’s tons of information these days- reading and acquiring

    [12:3] For someone in their mid to late 20s/ 30’s who is coming to terms that they haven’t had the best financial path- what advice do you have for them?
    · Making small changes massive a massive impact
    · Increase your 401(k) and start very small amounts

    [13:21] Do you track your spending?
    · Originally did monthly spending reviews and didn’t work
    · Then decided to set a goal and automatically comes out of checks so you never see it
    · Then having guilt free spend

    [14:49] If you were on a game show and won $500,000- what would you do with it?
    · FI number in mind, so invest $400k into the stock market
    · $100k for College for kids

    Josh teaches us how to get out of debt Jul 02, 2018

    Today we have Josh from Money Life Wax- a personal finance blog designed for millennials. In 2015 he realized that his financial were in a mess and decided to do something about it, so in February 2016, he put a ring on his girlfriend’s finger and then they decided to get serious about their future.

    Together they had over $300k worth of student loan debt so it really took some serious planning for them to start tackling their debt.

    [2:33] So, how much debt have you guys paid off to date?
    · $40k in student loans before he met his wife
    · His wife had $155k from grad school, $20 from Navient account and $97k
    · Interest is crazy high so even more than that!

    [4:53] What is has been your strategy to tackle the debt? Are you trying to pay off the highest interest rate loans first or tackling loans by value?
    · Read the Dave Ramsey with the Debt Snowball
    · Uses home equity line of credit to make massive payments
    · Ultimately big cash flow strategy focusing on largest amount with the largest interest rate some at 8%
    · Has not refinanced due to federal perks
    · This is not recommended for everybody as it’s a specific strategy.

    [9:51] What are some areas you had to cut back on?
    · Deciding to live a different lifestyle- which a lot of people might not want to hear J
    · Focus on what’s important, get rid of cable and gym membership
    · Stop eating out so much and not take expensive vacations

    [13:41] Do you have any strategies for planning a wedding on a budget?
    · Decided to put wedding off a bit to try save some money
    · Realization that inviting 200 people to get into massive debt isn’t worth it so invited fewer people and identified their true friends.
    · Used wedding mix instead of a videographer
    · All in all was about a $15k wedding

    [16:54] What advice do you have for people who also have a ton of debt or are taking out massive loans for school?
    · If you’re going to assume the debt you should pay the debt
    · You need to claim responsibility
    · Be smart with Colleges and decide if the return on investment is worth it
