Litecast: AP Poll Reactions and Realignment Madness Aug 18, 2021

Show notes

We’re officially in the run up to football season, as the Litecast tackles the release of the first AP Top 25 of the season. Is Iowa State properly ranked at #7? How did we manage to get petty about the rankings despite the highest number in school history?

After that we finally get down to some details of conference realignment, and try to make sense of Iowa State’s future. Plus, we debate ideal landing spots and things get explicit when we discussed Texas’ & ESPN’s role in everything.

Dylan leads us on our first Nets Minute of the offseason. With the preseason underway, Austin is feeling great about Justin Fields and Matt tries to figure out when the Vikings are going to fire Mike Zimmer. Lastly, we unveil a brand new segment, Hottest Take You Wish You Had Last Week, as the guys look back on last week’s sports news.

The Litecast kicks off the month of August with a big time return interview. Brett from Pick Six Previews joins the show to discuss all things Iowa State football in 2021. We start with a review of 2020 and if Iowa State has that extra gear they need to reach the College Football Playoff. While he hasn’t had a chance to speak to anyone on staff yet, he’d sure like to. While 2020 was weird, we find out if anything is being discounted or overvalued heading into this year.

We also get some thoughts on conference realignment, Iowa State’s individual positional greatness, and a breakdown of his Heisman voting process. And most importantly, why Oklahoma is his #1 team entering the season, how Iowa State stacks up in their matchups, and a surprise at 3rd in the Big 12.

Order Brett’s season preview book at picksixpreviews.com. You won’t get better than the most accurate preview!

The ReCYcle Podcast is back!!!
In this episode, we rewind to 2001 and steal Paul Shirley, former Iowa State player, and current author/entrepreneur to talk about his career as a Cyclone.
The interview provides the most insane, never-heard stories about controversial former Iowa State head coach Larry Eustachy. We don't want to spoil it, but they are not pleasant.
Paul is a fantastic interview, and anyone who has any interest in Iowa State or basketball will be highly entertained by this podcast.
As always, this podcast is presented to you by Es Tas Bar & Grill.

On this weeks Litecast, the guys review the biggest storylines from Big 12 media day. We get petty as the discussion around Matt Campbell and his coaching future are getting old. Look out for some stray shots at the other Big 12 schools. We also tackle the discourse around the "Horns Down" gesture and whether or not culture is just an empty buzzword used by coaches. Elsewhere, the Bucks are on the verge of an NBA championship (we recorded before game 6) and there is some Suns resentment setting in. We give some thoughts on LeBron's new Space Jam and wrap up with a season summary of the Bachelorette. Thanks as always to our sponsor Es Tas Bar & Grill!

The Litecast returns with a full house as Austin, Matt, and Dylan are back in action. We start with the news of 4-star in state recruit Hunter Deyo's commitment to Iowa State. This is a continuation of a trend as 2022 is looking good for the Cyclones. Is this the start of sustained success? We sure think so. The NBA Finals looks much more competitive as Giannis is playing out of his mind. Can the Bucks come back to win the whole thing? We also try to make sense of why Tyrese Haliburton is not on the Suns right now. In other basketball news, Team USA is struggling in Olympic prep, but we think we know how to fix it. Lastly, we play a new game to help us get ready for football season: Big 12 QB or country singer? Thanks to Es Tas Bar & Grill for sponsoring!

The Litecast returns from a 1 week hiatus with Dylan and Austin giving thoughts on which Iowa State athlete could potentially make the best merch with July 1st approaching. Then it's on to the Donnie Report as the Huskers are in the hunt for a new AD. Husker Howie's dial up internet connection worked well enough to throw out Jamie Pollard's name in a tweet. How are we feeling? Should we be worried? In the NBA, Dylan's Nets Minute is put to rest for the season. Trae Young is hurt. Luka's Mavericks are imploding. Things could be going better for our teams. Abdel Nader's Finals MVP campaign is strong though. Lastly, we break down episode 4 of the Bachelorette. Dylan is out on Katie. Austin's take on hating Greg is vindicated. We sorted out the big Thomas drama and decide if we are in or out with Blake returning to the show. Presented by Es Tas Bar & Grill!

Litecast: CFP Expansion and Bachelorette Episode 2 Recap Jun 16, 2021

Show notes

Send us a text

The College Football Playoff is on the verge of expanding to 12 teams and we have.... thoughts. Is 12 too many teams? Why do we have to include G5 teams? What does it mean for Iowa State (spoiler alert: money and access)? Kyrie Irving is injured and the Nets are still fighting. Things looked bleak but they can still beat the Bucks as long as Bruce Brown steps up. After a quick update on the Mavs/Hawks trade power rankings, we finish off with a recap of episode 2 of the Bachelorette. Katie stepped up. Karl is a sociopath. We are the foremost anti-Greg podcast in Bachelor Nation. There's some spicy conspiracy theories we toss around as we prepare for the rest of the season. Thanks to Es Tas Bar & Grill for sponsoring!
