Which version of the Boston Celtics will we see in Game 3 vs. Milwaukee with Max Lederman May 05, 2022
    Show notes

The Boston Celtics looked like two very different teams in Games 1 and 2 of their second-round series with the Milwaukee Bucks, first getting blown out by the Bucks and then blowing out Milwaukee in return. What impressions can we take away from this series given how disparate the first two games were from one another, and what can we expect to see from both teams moving forward?

How will the health of Marcus Smart's thigh contusion and Jaylen Brown's hamstring tightness affect the series? What can the Bucks do in order to adjust to Boston's single-man coverage of Giannis Antetokounmpo? Will the Celtics keep firing away from beyond the arc at historic rates, or will they look to score in other ways?

On this episode of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast, we enlisted the help of NBC Sports Boston's Max Lederman to get our bearings on a very closely matched Eastern Conference semifinals series.

Join Lederman and your usual hosts Alex Goldberg and Justin Quinn as we take stock of Bucks - Celtics as the series heads to Wisconsin for Milwaukee's two-game homestand.

Talking Celtics - Bucks tactical shifts in the East Semifinals with Jared Weiss Apr 29, 2022
    Show notes

The Boston Celtics are soon to take on the reigning NBA champions in the 2022 Eastern Conference Semifinals after beating up on the Brooklyn Nets to get the sweep in the first round. But unlike the Nets, the Milwaukee Bucks are no slouch on the defensive end of the court, and could be just as dangerous or even more so putting points on the board as well.

How are the Celtics going to have to adapt their play if they want to have a shot at making the Eastern Conference Finals? What will the Bucks be looking to do against Boston? Perhaps even more importantly, how will the absence of All-Star Bucks forward Khris Middleton affect the series -- and how much should we worry about star Celtics wing Jaylen Brown's hamstring tightness?

To answer all these questions and more, we invited on The Athletic's Jared Weiss to talk all things tactics between these two East juggernauts on the latest episode of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast.

Join your usual hosts Alex Golberg, Justin Quinn, and Cameron Tabatabaie as we get our bearings on both ends of the court ahead of Sunday's Game 1 season opener.

No sweep 'til Brooklyn (Nets), and a glance at Boston's second round Apr 27, 2022
    Show notes

The Boston Celtics have eliminated the 2022 preseason title favorites in four games, about as improbable an outcome at the midpoint of the season as might be imagined. Yet, the Celtics will advance to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs to face either the Milwaukee Bucks or Chicago Bulls after dispatching the Brooklyn Nets just the same.

How did it happen? Who deserves flowers? Where did the Nets go wrong, and what lies in store for them in their future? Your usual hosts Cameron Tabatabaie, Alex Goldberg, and Justin Quinn got together to gloat a little and think a lot about what might be coming down the pike in the next round of the Celtics' postseason action.

We cover everything from All-Star forward Jayson Tatum's ascent to superstardom to the critical buckets made by Payton Pritchard, and do our best to envision a rough outline of what a second-round series with Boston's most likely opponent might look like.

It will be a few days before that is potentially decided, and longer still for the Celtics to get back on the court, so get your Boston podcast fix with us as we take stock of one heck of a first-round series.

Looking at how Boston's Game 3 win vs. Brooklyn sheds light on the Celtics' postseason ceiling with Alex King Apr 24, 2022
    Show notes

The Boston Celtics are poised to sweep the team that was widely seen as likely to win the 2022 NBA title on the Brooklyn Nets' home court this coming Monday, and questions about what could be going wrong with the Nets has shifted to how impressive the Celtics have been not only in their series with Brooklyn but well before the postseason even began.

What did Boston's Game 3 win tell us about the Celtics' title chances? How will the return of big man Robert Williams III inflect those odds? And what were the elements that came together in the latter half of the 2021-22 NBA season that set the table for this unprecedented success?

The hosts of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast Alex Goldberg, Justin Quinn, and Cameron Tabatabaie got together with the creator of the "Alex Hoops" YouTube NBA video breakdown series Alex King to try and get a handle on what it was that got Boston to this enviable position.

Check out the clip embedded above to hear what the foursome had to say about the Celtics getting up 3 games to none over the Nets, and what it might mean moving forward.

What Game 1 of Brooklyn Nets-Boston Celtics can tell us about the rest of the series with Ajayi Browne Apr 20, 2022
    Show notes

What can Game 1 of the series between the Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics potentially tell us about what might happen with the rest of the first-round series of the 2022 NBA Eastern Conference playoffs tell us about the rest of the games Boston will play against Brooklyn?

On this episode of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast, we brought on Ajayi Browne of Nets Daily to dissect the buzzer-beating win and see how much of what we saw in Game 1 that could have bearing on the contests to follow in the NBA Finals-like atmosphere we saw on Sunday afternoon.

Will Kyrie continue to be a lights-out marksman from everywhere on the floor? Can the Celtics keep Kevin Durant from becoming one as well? Will Boston anticipate Brooklyn's adjustments in Game 2? And when do we think each team's bigs will be back, anyway?

Check out the clip embedded above to hear all Browne and your usual hosts Justin Quinn, Cameron Tabatabaie, and Alex Goldberg have to say about what they expect to see in the series moving forward.

We even have a healthy debate on whether your 2022 Kia Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart truly deserved the honor (spoiler: he does).

Breaking down the Celtics-Nets series in the 2022 NBA Playoffs with Steve Bulpett Apr 16, 2022
    Show notes

The Boston Celtics are gearing up for Game 1 of their first-round series with the Brooklyn Nets this coming Sunday, April 17, hoping to start the 2022 NBA Playoffs out with a win. With one of the league's best offenses, they hope to offset the concentrated firepower of the Nets that is superstar forward Kevin Durant and star point guard Kyrie Irving and their experience winning banners with the top defense in the league and their depth.

Who has the coaching advantage with two relatively new head coaches helming each team? When will big men Robert Williams III and Ben Simmons return for each team respectively -- and will it be soon enough to matter? Are there any adjustments or other personnel in this series that Brooklyn or Boston need to plan ahead for? And what about the path beyond the Nets and the season leading up to it?

There's a host of things to discuss to get our bearings on this series, and to that end, we brought on legendary Celtics beat writer and current Heavy NBA reporter Steve Bulpett to talk it out.

Join your usual hosts Alex Goldberg, Cameron Tabatabaie, and Justin Quinn as we chop it up with Bulpett -- and stick around for the barbecue advice.

Talking regular season awards, Timelord, Simmons health with Zak Noble Apr 15, 2022
    Show notes

The 2021-22 regular season is in the books and the 2022 NBA Playoff seeding is set, with the Boston Celtics in the running for some hardware for the former and staring down a first-round collision with the Brooklyn Nets regarding the latter.

With uncertainty swirling around whether Ime Udoka will nab Coach of the Year, Brad Stevens Executive of the Year, and even whether star forward Jayson Tatum will crack the top 5 of the 2022 Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, we turned to the king of NBA Twitter polls and co-host of the BallIsLife "Noble and Roosh" podcast Zak Noble.

We also touch on the relative health of Boston and Brooklyn's star frontcourt players -- Robert Williams III and Ben Simmons, respectively -- and whether we are buying reports of where either big man's health is on this edition of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast.

Join your usual hosts Cameron Tabatabaie, Alex Goldberg, and Justin Quinn as we get you up to speed on everything you need to know heading into the Celtics' 2022 postseason.

The protocols return, the Wiz goes down & building our All-Defensive teams with Josue Pavon Apr 07, 2022
    Show notes

As the 2021-22 NBA regular season draws to a close, so begins the projections of analysts and fans of which players ought to win what end-of-season awards. The Boston Celtics did not at all look like a team that would be in the mix for many if any such hardware at the midpoint of their campaign this season but have since very noticeably turned their season around in a historic way under first-year head coach Ime Udoka.

With a league-leading defense and a top-10 offense possessing one of the best point differentials in the league, the Celtics have all the indications of being a team that can win an NBA title so long as no more serious injuries after Robert Williams III take place.

And with Timelord potentially even returning early, it's easy to get distracted by the postseason on our collective doorstep.

But with this success should come accolades, and for this week's CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast, your usual hosts linked up with Josue Pavon of the "Cedric Maxwell" podcast on the same network and Heavy.com to talk all things Defensive Teams and where Boston's players should be on it.

Check out the episodes embedded above to hear Justin Quinn, Alex Goldberg, and Cameron Tabatabaie's cases for All-Defensive teams, with Pavon offering his own views and keeping us honest.

All-NBA, all vaccinated (?), and almost being done with the regular season with Kwani Lunis Apr 02, 2022
    Show notes

The Boston Celtics have at least one player likely to land on an All-NBA team for the 2021-22 season in All-Star forward Jayson Tatum, but due to his eligibility at both guard and forward for the honor (to say nothing of the positional flexibility afforded some stars but not others), it remains unclear whether the St. Louis native will end up with first, second, or third team honors.

Uncertainty also abounds in the team's media coverage with potential playoff eligibility in a series against the Toronto Raptors with speculation abounding regarding the vaccination status of all Celtics players in light of Toronto's vaccine mandate.

In this episode of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast, we team up with "The A-List" podcast host and NBC 10 Boston broadcaster Kwani A. Lunis to talk through these forward-looking issues.

Join your usual hosts Cameron Tabatabaie, Alex Goldberg, and Justin Quinn as we do our best to suss out where Tatum (and the rest of the league's best players) should be honored by the league and more.

With news that the Boston Celtics will be without their starting center Robert Williams III for four to six weeks to the social impact of the slap heard 'round the world, there's plenty of space for a comedic perspective in Celtics circles and beyond.

To that end, the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast linked up with noted Boston homer, foil to The Ringer's Jason Concepcion, and comedian Mike Mulloy to talk about how the Celtics will cope without Timelord, thoughts about the Oscars and the role of comedy in the world, and basketball in Boston more generally.

Blow off a little steam after a tense couple of days with Mulloy and your usual hosts Alex Goldberg, Justin Quinn, and Cameron Tabatabaie.

We even dive into the world of pro wrestling and which Celtics might excel in it in this episode, be sure to check it out (listener note - this episode has more explicit language than usual).
