August 22: ST. ANDRÉ BESSETTE: God's Little Doorkeeper Aug 22, 2026
    Show notes

St. André Bessette spent 40 years answering a college door in Montreal — and thousands came seeking a miracle.

Orphaned and sickly as a child, André Bessette worked as the doorkeeper at Collège Notre-Dame for four decades, praying with the sick who came to him and pointing them to St. Joseph. So many were healed that the Church investigated — and the resulting devotion built the Oratory of St. Joseph, now the largest church in Canada. André always deflected the credit.

"I do not cure. St. Joseph cures."

August 21: ST. PIUS X: Come to the Table Aug 21, 2026
    Show notes

If you made your First Communion at age seven or eight, then you have St. Pius X to thank!

Born into poverty in Italy, St. Pius X became Pope and used his position to do something extraordinary for children: lowering the age for First Communion to around seven years old. Moved by the story of a dying four-year-old named Little Nellie who longed for Jesus in the Eucharist, Pius opened the doors of Holy Communion to children everywhere in 1910.

"If you have made your First Communion, you have St. Pius X to thank."

⭐Today's challenge is just the start.

August 20: ST. BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX: The Honey-Sweet Doctor Aug 20, 2026
    Show notes

At 22, St. Bernard of Clairvaux showed up at a monastery gate with thirty friends who all wanted to become monks.

St. Bernard gave up wealth and comfort to found the monastery of Clairvaux, bringing thirty companions with him. He grew close to Jesus through Lectio Divina — slowly praying with Scripture until it opened like a door — and through a tender devotion to Our Lady, whom he called the aqueduct of God's grace. He went on to found 68 monasteries and became known as the "honey-sweet Doctor."

    "We want to become monks."

⭐Following St. Bernard's example doesn't have to end when the episode does.

August 19: SERVANT OF GOD NICHOLAS BLACK ELK: Lakota Catholic Hero Aug 19, 2026
    Show notes

Servant of God Nicholas Black Elk went from Lakota warrior to Catholic catechist who brought over 400 people to baptism.

Nicholas Black Elk lived through the Battle of Little Bighorn and the tragedy of Wounded Knee before being baptized Catholic in 1904. From then on, he rode across the Lakota lands of South Dakota as a catechist, teaching his own people about Baptism, the Eucharist, and Our Lady in words only he could speak. His cause for sainthood is now open with the Catholic Church.

"He spent the first half of his life searching for truth. He spent the second half giving it away."

August 18: ST. HELENA: Finding the True Cross Aug 18, 2026
    Show notes

At almost eighty years old, St. Helena crossed the ancient world on pilgrimage to find the actual Cross of Jesus.

St. Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine, traveled thousands of miles to Jerusalem in her final years to walk where Jesus walked. Along the way she visited prisoners, cared for the sick, and gave alms to the poor — pilgrimage lived out through mercy. In Jerusalem, she ordered an excavation near Calvary and, according to ancient tradition, uncovered the True Cross itself.

"She didn't just want to read about Calvary. She wanted to stand there."

⭐Today's challenge is just the start.

August 17: OUR LADY OF KNOCK: She Came in Silence Aug 17, 2026
    Show notes

Our Lady of Knock appeared to a rain-soaked Irish village in total silence — and said everything without a word.

On a rainy August evening in 1879, fifteen villagers in Knock, Ireland watched Our Lady appear on their church's gable wall alongside St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist, beside an altar with the Lamb of God. She never spoke — she simply pointed toward the Eucharist, showing the villagers exactly where her Son could be found.

"Our Lady came to Knock in silence. But she said everything."

⭐Following Our Lady's example doesn't have to end when the episode does.

August 16: ST. STEPHEN OF HUNGARY: A Crown From the Pope Aug 16, 2026
    Show notes

St. Stephen of Hungary knelt among the poor as a king long before Rome ever sent him a crown.

Meet St. Stephen of Hungary, the young Magyar chieftain crowned the first King of Hungary by Pope Sylvester II on Christmas Day, the year 1000. Stephen built churches and monasteries across his kingdom, and alongside his wife Gisela — a true sacramental partnership — helped plant the Catholic faith in a still-pagan land. He even disguised himself as a poor man to hand out alms with his own hands.

"A king who let himself be knocked down in a dark street for love of Christ."
