More Than a Mother with LaWann Moses Aug 10, 2020
    Show notes

We are all so much more than a mother, but at times it is so hard to recognize and celebrate that. LaWann Moses has overcome many struggles in her life from becoming a mother at a young age, severe depression, and recently a diagnosis with MS. While many would be overwhelmed by those experiences, LaWann has focused on reclaiming her power in her life to become not only a wonderful mother but also a full time career mom and business owner! She doesn’t believe in mom guilt and believes that we all can reduce the motherhood overwhelm so we can find freedom to do more of the things we love and enjoy.

LaWann is the Founder & CEO of WannMo, LLC. She is a Business and Life Success Strategist with a consulting firm that provides coaching services to busy, working moms. LaWann is the Creator and Host of the More Than A Mother podcast where through tips, inspirational stories, and interviews with industry experts, she helps moms pursue their dreams and be great moms at the same time. LaWann is an advocate and visionary leader who equips her clients with tools to strengthen their sense of self, reclaim their power, and unleash their full potential. Get LaWann’s tips to overcome mom guilt here!

LaWann also shared her experience as a Black mother during COVID and the social justice uprising. She has 2 great episodes on the topic and about what it means to be Ally during this time. I highly recommend her podcast in general, but especially these episodes:

Leaning Out with Monica Pierce Aug 03, 2020
    Show notes

If you are a woman in corporate America, the phrase “Lean In” is probably not a new one. The phrase became popular in 2013 after Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s COO, published her book. It served as a call to action for women to stop holding themselves back from the big corporate career they always dreamed of. But what if that message fell flat for you, or now that you’ve had a child your career goals have completely shifted. What if you just want to be an average career mom?

Enter Monica Pierce and her book, “Leaning Out: An Alternative Perspective for the Modern Corporate Woman” (learn more here) Monica has worked in Corporate America for 15 years, starting out determined to “climb the ladder” and "Lean In" to her career. But over the years her professional ambition changed, specifically when she became a mother. Monica now passionately writes and speaks about alternative perspectives for modern corporate women. Monica and her husband have three young children and, following her own Leaning Out philosophy, they recently relocated from the busy Silicon Valley to Boise, Idaho where they live a slower-paced lifestyle, enjoying the outdoors and time together as a family.

Monica’s debut book, Leaning Out, is now available in print, ebook and audiobook. Leaning Out is being acclaimed as the long-awaited response to today’s mainstream messages and as a must-read for all modern corporate women.

Jenny and Monica will be hosting a book club to read and talk about “Leaning Out”. Get a free copy of the audiobook and a 30 day trial of Audible: audibletrial.com/CareerMom Make sure you are part of the Career Mom Facebook group in order to get more information about book club details. There will be 2 virtual hangouts hosted in September 2020.

Wow! So much has happened since the last episode aired. While COVID has been a huge struggle and challenge, especially for working moms, I feel the need to talk about race and racism RIGHT NOW. De'dria reached out Jenny through Instagram and this is the conversation that happened once the two women were connected. Both were vulnerable, both were uncomfortable and both did it anyways. Jenny chats with Britta Newell, a mother of 5, who has experienced anxiety throughout her life as well as postpartum after the birth of her twins. Jenny and Britta talk about the role talk therapy plays in their lives and how they feel about taking medication for anxiety and depression.
