The Femails from Career Contessa: Season 2 Trailer Jan 22, 2019
    Show notes

Welcome back to The Femails, a podcast that covers all things women, work, and what it takes to build a successful and fulfilling career on your terms.

Last season we brought you stories of meltdowns followed by swift comebacks from 12 dynamic women.

We’re back in the studio for season 2 of The Femails where will be focusing on disruption. You see, last year I wrote about how 2018 was going to be the Year of The Woman and huge kudos to all of us because we definitely left our mark. This year I’m seeing that movement continue but in a more fearless way. This is why I’m deeming this the Year of Disruption.

Disruptive times mean disrupting narratives, disrupting old ways of thinking, and disrupting entire industries. It might even mean disrupting our long-held definitions of our own success.

This season, I’ll be asking lots of questions and finding answers for how we can incorporate disruption into our daily lives. Subscribe today and you'll be the first to listen to season 2 when it premieres on February 5th, 2019! Theme music: Ethan Edenburg

    Paige Adams-Geller: You've Made It Nov 27, 2018
    Show notes

Meet Paige Adams-Geller, Founder and Creative Director of PAIGE, a highly successful premium denim and lifestyle brand.

Paige’s journey began in Los Angeles, where her entrepreneurial spirit took her from working as one of the top fit models in the industry to launching her namesake collection in 2004. However, as you’ve heard throughout season one of this podcast, no journey to success happens without some bumps along the way.

Today, she sits at the helm of PAIGE as the only female founder in the denim industry. On this episode, Paige is getting vulnerable—we cover things like

    • How she manages her perfectionism

    • The two traits she relies on in order for her to continue to dominate the premium denim industry

    • And what she does to strengthen her confidence muscles each day.

Amanda Enayati: Managing Anxiety, Managing Yourself Nov 20, 2018
    Show notes

Meet Amanda Enayati, a stress expert, author, and cancer survivor. If you’ve ever looked at the headlines around stress and anxiety, the message is very clear: Chronic stress is on the rise. But what about the research that tells us how we can manage our stress or even turn our anxiety into positive action? And is there a difference between professional stress and personal? With so many questions about the topic, I was eager to find a stress expert who could actually provide some answers.

Amanda’s path to becoming a stress expert is a combination of both personal and professional experiences, starting around age 10 when Amanda became a child refugee because of a revolution in Iran. And later, when Amanda was also hit with a life-threatening cancer diagnosis.
That’s when Amanda started to write and record a new narrative for herself. A narrative that eventually turned her into the nation’s premier stress columnist and expert, a published author, and even launched an entirely new career. On this episode, we’ll cover:

  • How to stress better and lean into more of the good stress

  • What we can learn from elite athletes and how they react to stress

  • And how to develop a better sense of control that you can use in your career and life

Jill Abramson: Recovery Mode Nov 13, 2018
    Show notes

Meet Jill Abramson, author and Harvard college professor. She also happens to be the first and only woman to hold the position of Executive Editor at The New York Times, a role she’d lose in a very public way

Jill Abramson’s ascent at The New York Times makes perfect sense considering Jill is a native New Yorker through and through and she spent years in journalism including in the managing editor role at the Times before taking the top spot in 2011. But Jill's leadership role didn't last long and when she was fired in 2013, the whole world talked about it, wrote about, and speculated on why it happened. From her leadership style to personality, the media covered it all. Jill's story is about resilience, female allyship, and why every woman should ask the tough questions around salary—just because you're holding the top position in the company, doesn't mean you're free from experiencing gender inequality at work.

Jennifer Romolini: The Power of Odd Jobs and Being Weird Oct 23, 2018
    Show notes

Before she wrote the CliffsNotes on career truths, Jennifer was the Chief Content Officer at Shondaland.com with yes, that Shonda, formally known as TV producer Shonda Rhimes, and was also Editor in Chief at some pretty prominent companies like Hello Giggles, Yahoo Shine, and Lucky Magazine. All that sounds glamorous, but before Jennifer became a star in the world of online content, she suffered setbacks, feelings of otherness, and self-doubt, just like the rest of us.

In this episode, she’s answering all the tough questions like:

    • What to do when you feel jealous about another person’s job

    • How to manage millennials

    • And why we’re so obsessed with an image of success that’s also...a complete fallacy.

Ann Shoket: The Ambition Trap Oct 09, 2018
    Show notes

Meet Ann Shoket, the former editor-in-chief of Seventeen Magazine, author of The Big Life, and a champion for millennial women who are redefining the meaning of power and success. But championing women isn’t why I asked Ann Shoket to join us—although we’ll definitely cover that. I wanted Ann to come talk about what I call The Ambition Trap. Sometimes drive and direction don’t work in tandem, and that can feel really, really frustrating. All that mess is something Ann totally understands—she’s a bit of millennial woman guru—and I’m sure many of you can relate to the internal battle you have with your ambition as well. Which is why on this episode we’ll be discussing:

    • What exactly ambition means and why women struggle with the ambition trap

    • How to deal with the “itch” or that feeling that something better might be out there

    • And the different meanings and outcomes behind side hustles.

Meet Farnoosh Torabi, a personal finance expert, 3-time author with her latest book called “When She Makes More,” and host of the popular So Money podcast. Farnoosh isn’t your typical money expert with years working at a bank or managing other people’s portfolios. In today’s episode, we talk about:

    • What $30,000 debt really means

    • Why every woman should focus on discovering her niche

    • And why you shouldn’t settle for a Mr. Mom
