How Regenerative Farming Can Lead to Healthier Living With Mollie Engelhart Aug 23, 2023
    Show notes

Adapting a fully organic diet and lifestyle requires a huge amount of effort and dedication. Mollie Engelhart responds to the call for healthier living by focusing on regenerative farming. Joining Corrina Bellizi, she talks about her work as a farm-to-table farmer who promotes organic diet by adopting a closed food loop and getting rid of the use of fertilizers. She explains the benefits of vertical farming technology, how to be mindful of excess food, and why our health is directly connected with healthy soils. Mollie also talks about how to become regenerative beyond farming and even into community-building approaches, food production, and our daily routines.

    About Guest:

Mollie, a mother of four, is one of California's foremost advocates for regenerative farming.

She uses sustainable practices on her three regenerative farms, two of which are located in California and the other in Texas. They supply fresh and organic produce to many residents as well as her four restaurants and brewery, including Sage Vegan Bistro, which is co-owned by famous actor and activist Woody Harrelson.

Mollie started Sow a Heart Farm in 2018, which has become known for its exemplary regenerative practices and inspirational volunteer opportunities. The farm now delivers pesticide-free CSA produce boxes throughout the Greater Los Angeles area, and it also facilitates a sustainable food and compost loop with Mollie’s renowned restaurants.

Mollie sits on the board of Kiss the Ground, the foremost soil and regenerative agriculture nonprofit that raises awareness through storytelling, education, and advocacy—it has large followings on both Instagram and Facebook. The foundation produced the film Kiss the Ground to show the potential of stabilizing Earth’s ecosystems through regenerative practices.

Mollie is dedicated to living and sharing a natural and practical earth-minded lifestyle. From her regenerative farms and restaurants to her deep concern for healthy eating and holistic family life (she delivered four home births), Mollie is showing a way forward for Americans.

The True Price Of Saving The Planet With Paula DiPerna Jul 19, 2023
    Show notes

Saving the planet is indeed an overwhelming undertaking. The world is a priceless place, but perhaps the best way to save it is to put a price on it. Corinna Bellizzi sits down with Paula DiPerna, a leader in the forefront of finance and climate policy who wrote the book Pricing The Priceless. She explains why money should be spent on rebuilding essential environmental assets rather than on dispensable resources that only benefit the powerful few. Paula talks about the valuable lessons he learned from underwater hero Jacques-Yves Cousteau, the benefits of funding coral reef insurance and forest resilience bonds, as well as the real impact of carbon credits in the current state of nature.

    About Guest:

Paula DiPerna is a pioneer and leader at the forefront of finance and climate policy, from the Oval Office to Antarctica, coral reefs to carbon markets. She served as President of CCX International, the world’s first expansive emissions trading system to address global warming; President of the Joyce Foundation; and writer for underwater hero, Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Currently, she is Special Advisor to CDP, the world’s only integrated environmental disclosure system. DiPerna is a frequent media commentator and public speaker.

The Unseen Negative Impacts Of Coal Mining With Isabel Reddy, Author Of That You Remember Jul 12, 2023
    Show notes

In 1972, the Buffalo Creek Disaster took place, where coal mining waste dams failed and caused severe flooding. This resulted in 125 casualties, while thousands were either left injured or homeless. Isabel Reddy does not want people to forget about this disaster. She is now on a mission to encourage everyone to call out poor business practices that cause destruction and save vulnerable areas from suffering. She joins Corinna Bellizzi to talk about her book, That You Remember, which is loosely based on the Buffalo Creek Disaster. Isabel explains how fictionalized stories can inspire readers to push for actual change and not simply sweep disasters under the rug. She talks about her experiences living in a small town and why such places should be protected from destructive corporate projects. Isabel also shares her inspirations in creating her characters, particularly the woman she saw on a videotape about the Buffalo Creek Disaster that became her story’s protagonist.

    About Guest:

Isabel Reddy began her career in clinical research as a science writer. She has been a guest columnist for numerous newspapers and she is working on her MFA in Writing at Goddard College. Ms. Reddy lives in North Carolina with her husband and German Shepherd, Mac.

How To Properly Vet Charities To Support With Michael Thatcher Jul 05, 2023
    Show notes

Numerous charities pop up left and right whenever a crisis arises. Although these not-for-profit organizations raise money for good causes, some only gather financial donations to feed their selfish interests. As a donor, how can you separate legitimate charities from fake ones? Michael Thatcher makes charity vetting way easier through Charity Navigator. Joining Corinna Bellizzi, he shares how their team evaluates and rates different charities across the country, helping people ensure that they are putting their hard-earned money on reputable not-for-profit organizations aligning with their values. Michael also discusses the power of charity collaboration in today’s economic market, with inflation and rising interest rates directly impacting how much donors are giving to charities.

    About Michael Thatcher

Michael leads Charity Navigator in its efforts to make impactful philanthropy easier for all by increasing the breadth and depth of evaluation methodologies to facilitate ratings coverage of substantially larger numbers of charities and expand how the information engages new and existing audiences. How the Debt Ceiling Deal Undermines Critical Environmental Protections With Maya van Rossum Jun 28, 2023
    Show notes

Several acts were put in place by the government to ensure that the environment is well-protected and benefits every single citizen adequately. But because of the debt ceiling deal, these are not being implemented to their fullest. Corinna Bellizzi speaks once again with Maya van Rossum of Green Amendments For the Generations. This time, they discuss how the debt ceiling deal undermines critical environmental protections. The two explain how it hinders people from enjoying clean water and air, as well as puts endangered species at more risk. They talk about the needed work at the federal level to make a real change in this matter and finally create a Green Amendment in the US Constitution. Maya also highlights a glimmer of hope happening in Montana, where youth plaintiffs are fighting against climate change and demanding their constitutional right for a healthful environment.

    About Guest:

Maya K. van Rossum is the Founder of Green Amendments For the Generations, a grassroots non-profit inspiring constitutional recognition and protection of environmental rights in every state and ultimately at the federal level. She is also the Delaware Riverkeeper, leading the 4 state, watershed-based advocacy organization, the Delaware Riverkeeper Network, for 30 years. Since launching her national Green Amendment movement, New York passed a Green Amendment in 2021, with proposals advancing in 12 additional states. She authored the book The Green Amendment, The People’s Fight For a Clean, Safe & Healthy Environment which was released in its second edition in November 2022.

The Orangutan Project With Leif Cocks Jun 21, 2023
    Show notes

Because of the rampant deforestation of rainforests, many animals find themselves struggling to find new habitats and food sources. Among those that call such forests home are orangutans. Small population biologist Leit Cocks dedicates himself to the study of these great apes, with the goal of saving their endangered species. He joins Corinna Bellizzi to share how supporting the preservation of eight different rainforests allows Leit and his team to contribute to the noble effort of rehabilitating suffering orangutans. He also emphasizes the need for collective action against climate change and carbon production, especially in this most critical decade in the history of mankind.

    About Guest:

For over three decades, world-renowned orangutan expert Leif Cocks has worked to secure the survival of Critically Endangered orangutans. He’s an outspoken campaigner on their behalf and a key player in developing plans for their protection, including leading the first-ever successful reintroduction of a zoo-born orangutan into the wild.

A small population biologist, Leif has a Master of Science studying orangutans. He’s been awarded Curtin University's highest award for achievement, has published several academic papers and books on orangutans, and is the author of the Amazon Best Seller Orangutans My Cousins, My Friends and Finding Our Humanity. In 2020 Leif was awarded the Order of Australia for his outstanding work in the field of wildlife conservation.
