It Follows (2014) Nov 05, 2024

Show notes

Although Halloween is behind us, it follows Edwin. Which is tough, because he does NOT enjoy horror movies. Lucky for us, we have this podcast!

We are headed to the suburbs of Detroit to watch the 2014's It Follows. The movie is a dreadful, tense slow burn that takes a silly-sounding premise and delivers a compelling variation of the genre that sticks in your psyche long after the credits roll (at least in our opinion).

So fire up your clamshell e-readers, line the pool with retro appliances, and put on some comfy walking shoes to join us for a modern horror classic.

So grab your spray paint, twist your neck back around, and take a shot of everlasting life as we break down Robert Zemeckis' surreal black comedy.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (2009) Sep 11, 2024

Show notes

This week Sean takes us down to the bayou to serve up one of Werner Herzog's more insane and polarizing films - Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. A bizarre gumbo of black comedy, rampant drug addiction, crooked cops, and a massive scoop of Nic Cage turned up to 11; it's a ride through the seedy underbelly of New Orleans that is anything but boring.

So round up your imaginary iguanas, empty out those handbags, and jump into the flooded jailhouse with us for a dark and wild ride into the bliss of evil.

Street Fighter (1994) Aug 13, 2024

Show notes

Remember the classic arcade game Street Fighter II? Wasn't it great? The characters and combat felt so unique and cool? Well too bad, because this movie uppercuts all that in the face. In fact, it's so distinctly bad it's achieved cult status for being an accidental masterpiece of "trash art." So get your blue camouflage dry cleaned, wrap up your cage fights with Vega, and lace up a pair of superconducting boots to watch the 1994 dumpster fire that is Street Fighter: The Movie.

Here's a link to the story of making Street Fighter that was referenced in the episode.

When Harry Met Sally... Jul 02, 2024

Show notes

Nearly 35 years ago this month, When Harry Met Sally took the summer box office by storm and the rom-com genre along with it. The 1989 hit has since become the standard to which all "will-they-won't-they" movies are held too, so we're here to revisit what makes it such a beloved film. Since it's such a timeless classic, Edwin hasn't seen it of course.

So grab your road trip grapes, dry clean your cable-knit sweaters, and pack some salad dressing on the side while we kick back watch Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan talk about sex.
