Canada by Night Season 4 will be kicking off on December 17. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this 4-part one-shot, “The Case of the Alberta Mansquito”, set in the world of the Vampire the Masquerade podcast series, Canada by Night. In this out-of-canon adventure, Val, Everett and Barty are summoned to help solve a mystery outside of New Haven when the mysterious "Alberta Man-squito" calls upon them to save two "sexy teens." What will happen when the sheriff's department has to join forces with Rod Toadman and his put-upon companion Mia Evans? (Episode 1 of 4)

3.67 - The Price of Change Nov 12, 2024

After the parade arrived at the Val Miller Family Protection Building, the coterie and the prince’s team entered the prepared interview room, which already hosted three Tzimisce bodyguards. The prince began his public address, and as a bodyguard passed the false shaft to Toastarosa, Everett gave the code word. In the ensuing chaos, Evangeline dove to retrieve her gun, and Val tore a zulo in half and hurled it, taking out another Tzimisce. But the coterie face down a magazine of silver bullets trained on them?

The coterie emerged from the shock of an explosion of confetti to join the start of the parade. They took to their individual floats, Val forced to sit atop a poor facsimile of Cherry, Evangeline seated in the saddle of a large Dalmatian, and Everett dressed in a ridiculous outfit poised to sing. The sheriff sang his selection of songs to a mixed reception from the crowd, but will the enthusiasm of his Chappell Roan duet with Toasta Rosa be enough to quell any lingering suspicions from the prince?

The coterie used what little time they had left to put the final pieces in place for the prince’s arrival. Everett called the prince, convinced him that Doris had turned into a wight and was subsequently put down, and chose which songs he would sing from his float, Val received a slightly ominous message from the sheriff saying they would discuss how to deal with the beast later, and Evangeline sent Percy out of harm’s way. But will any of them survive the explosion to see their plan enacted?

The coterie made their final plans in the apartment being prepared for the prince’s address and subsequent execution. Val and Everett decided they would douse the rest of the building in silver nitrate and store hidden weapons in the apartment to take care of the prince and his bodyguards, Evangeline insisted on talking through various contingencies, and Veron Ferron made arrangements to decorate the room to conceal everything without arousing the prince’s suspicion.

The coterie found themselves facing the logistical challenges of deposing a prince. Matthew Theobald took over relocating the families of the daytime officers, Val took Evangeline’s suggestion of using the hospital holding cells to protect Will, and Everett and Evangeline accepted the expertise of Veron Ferron to arrange safe spaces from the silver nitrate. Nosferatu tech expert, Unity Castille, arrived on the scene, but even with many capable minds working together, will they pull off their grand deception?

As the clan meeting continued, Everett revealed that Matthew Theobald would become the new prince and that mortals would have representatives in the new system, and in the end the plan received unanimous support. The clans offered their various expertise in enacting the assassination and Evangeline called an end to the meeting. Madre stayed behind to question Val about the Brian Tombstone incident and secured 10 new Brujah in compensation. But now it’s time to update the future prince.

The coterie scrambled to reassert their control over the meeting after Val punched Brian Tombstone into Michael Arden, who then retaliated by boiling the Brujah’s blood. After Everett convinced Madre to delay punishing Arden, Evangeline reminded the clan leaders of the danger that the unstable prince posed to them all, and Everett presented their plan to forcibly replace Toasta Rosa with a democratic system. Some clan leaders have been convinced, but can the others stop their infighting long enough to see reason?

Before the coterie met with the clan leaders, Evangeline devised a strategy for the meeting, and Val and Michael Arden had a heated discussion about clan politics. Everett received a call from the prince, who informed him that he would be celebrated with a parade the following day, and Everett suggested a logistical change to make it easier to assassinate the prince amidst the festivities. But with Val having just lost control and punched a fellow Brujah, how will her sudden violence impact the mutinous negotiations?

At the station, Everett and Evangeline discussed the upcoming clan leader meeting. Evangeline realized the Tremere were leaderless and if Michael Arden were to step into that role, they could use his vote, so they took him to the arcade and vaguely threatened the remaining Tremere into electing him. Meanwhile, Val picked up groceries for Will and reflected guiltily on Margery’s death, thereby regaining some of her humanity. But can the coterie convince the clan leaders to help them murder a prince?

The coterie awoke the night after Doris left and began to plan a regicide in earnest. Val prioritized getting Will groceries, Evangeline learned that Teddy had indeed embraced himself, and Matthew Theobald promised to release him and allow the couple to leave New Haven once he becomes prince. Everett was awoken by the new Venture clan leader, Vinlynn Von Kindred, who offered his support in exchange for details of the treasonous plan. But can the coterie finally bring an end to their scheme?

When Doris had a vision of precisely how to take out the Right Hand of Lilith, the coterie jumped into action. Reproducing Doris’s vision, Everett slammed into the Right Hand with his car, Val pummeled him, Evangeline shot him, and Doris decided to end it all by diablerizing him. With her new powers, Doris saw that she must leave New Haven to keep the wider Pyramid away, and after tearful farewells, set out with Margery’s head for company. Can the rest of the coterie finally usurp the prince?

The coterie encountered Dylan Zane, who refused to give up anything incriminating, but when he was uncooperative, Doris entered his mind and gained all of his access codes. After quickly perusing his computers, Evangeline confirmed Teddy’s direction on the CCTV and Val uncovered the Pyramid 2.0’s plan to eliminate its investors, including the Prince. Everett offered this intel to the Prince as a big win, but Toasta Rosa was skeptical and still livid with the sheriff.

Everett and Doris interrogated Pyramid 2.0 sales rep Paul Wilson, who quickly divulged that the new Pyramid headquarters was at the arcade, Chuckless Cheese. Evangeline accompanied them to look for further evidence of Teddy’s whereabouts, Val convinced Madre to help them deal with the remaining Tremere, and when they all rushed into the arcade, the Brujah made quick work of intimidating everyone and securing the first two floors. But will Dylan Zane surrender so easily?

As the coterie surveyed the bloody scene, Everett deduced that the more powerful Tremere had all been killed, leaving the Pyramid 2.0 with only Dylan Zane and his brand new recruits. They returned to the station, Doris holding Margery’s head, Evangeline refusing to work and insisting on only searching for Teddy, and Val with orders to enlist the help of the Brujah to find the remaining Tremere. Will they extract the location of the Pyramid’s new headquarters from the only member they have in custody?

The coterie took their final desperate swings at their foes. Val was bitten by mosquitoes into torpor, Evangeline inadvertently turned the swarm on herself, and Everett cleverly used pepper spray and the sprinkler system to finish them off. Meanwhile, in the sky, Doris used her final well of blood within her to frenzy and dealt the killing blow to Lucius Balefire. How will the coterie avoid the retribution of the remainder of Red Cell, The Pyramid 2.0, and the Prince?

3.52 - Lucius in the Sky with Doris Jul 23, 2024

Facing Lucius Balefire with a hostage and a swarm of mosquitos, the coterie had to act quickly. Everett wanted to talk, but Val immediately flung Pentecost’s body at Margery to get her clear, and Margery did not survive. Doris successfully stabbed Lucius with the Shaft, but he grabbed her and took off with her upward into the sky. On the ground, Evangeline tried to reason with the swarm but instead they turned on Val, who quickly fell into torpor. How much more destruction will Lucius wreak before he finally expires?

With the Shaft of Belated Dissolution complete, it was only a matter of time before Lucius Balefire would arrive. Everett relented and let Doris hold the shaft to take the first strike, Evangeline encountered a vengeful mosquito, and the coterie soon found themselves in a firefight and pinned inside the building, with Val carrying an unconscious Pentecost. Inevitably, they came face to face with Balefire, a figure composed of thousands of mosquitos, and a familiar hostage. Will Doris give in to Lucius to save Margery?

The coterie have created the shaft and await Lucius Balefire’s arrival! Evangeline left Troy to find security footage of Teddy at the hospital before joining the rest of her coterie, Everett and Val made sure Red Cell were in position outside the ritual site before they went inside to guard the room where the magic was taking place, and Doris successfully created the shaft of belated dissolution, ensuring Lucius Balefire is on the way. But will this trap kill the Pyramid 2.0’s oldest vampire, or will the shaft be turned against its makers?

At the Malkavian headquarters, Val remained trapped in her violent compulsion. In the ensuing tussle, Everett accidentally killed Sam Buttwise, but was saved from retribution when Voticia Maddama used the situation to seize power for herself. At the rec centre, Doris was struck by a need to cause harm, and mesmerized Evangeline into burying herself in the corpse pile, at which point the compulsion ended, and a furious Evangeline emerged. Will the incessant in-fighting finally destroy the coterie?

When inside, Doris’s beast was consumed with paranoia and she sought refuge at the bottom of the corpse pile, where she followed a vision to retrieve a mysterious journal. Evangeline managed to pull her out, but Doris looked up and only saw Horatio.

Everett and Val were staggered to find the small swimming pool room filled with a hundred corpses in various states of decay, along with one table, one chair, but two glasses. When the coterie regrouped, together with the other evidence that Doris and Evangeline had put together, they finally realized that the two glasses were for the Right Hand of Lilith, flesh-crafted to look like Horatio and his puppet. But they can’t tell anyone if they want to keep any chance of surprise.

The coterie investigated the recreation centre as the possible ritual site of the cult of Lilith. Doris saw in her mind’s eye the disturbing and violent rituals that had recently been performed within and deduced that Horatio Sundrop might be the Right Hand, Val warned the sheriff against implicating Horatio without hard evidence, and Everett sent Evangeline away before she could witness a gruesome scene. Doris sought out Michael Arden’s expertise, and—in a surprise connection with Ben’s spirit—they learned that Ben’s sire must be very powerful and were led to the ritual site, a dilapidated community recreation centre that Everett heard had frightened even the Loyalists. Evangeline discovered that the new kindred were likely addicts, and as Val staked him again to pause their questioning, they immediately realized that he had resisted healing, such was his devotion to the cult. Evangeline spotted Troy being thrown out of an SUV, bloody and staked, Val rushed him to the hospital, striking a kindred bystander in her haste, Everett arrived soon after, furious that Val and Evangeline hadn’t responded to his calls, and Doris ran haphazardly around the hospital until she found Troy, injured but recovering. The coterie had to decide quickly what to do with Sam Buttwise. Everett ordered Val to deal with the situation, but Val was forced to turn Sam over to mysterious figures in an SUV, Doris and Evangeline hid out at Margery’s and did a tarot reading that portended disaster for Evangeline’s marriage, and the coterie eventually regrouped at the station. Barty rushed in to inform them that Troy had been taken, but is this retaliation from Horatio or an entirely new threat?

After Everett made a deal for Teddy to be Val’s therapist, a deal which—to Evangeline’s discomfort—includes them both moving in with Val, the coterie set out to surveil Horatio Sundrop. They observed the clan leader making an exchange of blood rations with each Malkavian, and to gather more intel, Doris compelled Sam Buttwise to speak with her, but when her spell ended, Sam ran, and Val chased him down, but not before he made a terrified call to Horatio.

The coterie were forced to release the very suspicious Tremere bodyguards. With the plan having failed, Everett secretly requisitioned blood from each clan from Dr. Holloway and ordered Evangeline and Doris into immediate therapy with Val, where they eventually empathized with the difficult circumstances they each were facing. At the meeting of the clan leaders, the coterie isolated the clans’ bodyguards. With two Tremere alone, Evangeline convinced a swarm of mosquitos to feed on them to acquire their blood, Doris fled when she mistook them for her former tormentors, and Val attacked them in retaliation for frightening Doris. Everett assured the clan leaders that he has a plan to keep the town running, but how will the Pyramid respond to the deputies’ hostility?

The coterie paraded Doris around to try lure out a Pyramid member so they could steal their blood. Though Val dressed conspicuously in tactical gear, Everett and Evangeline managed to be subtle, but still the Pyramid didn’t take the bait. As the coterie regrouped to formulate a new plan, the clan leaders called a meeting demanding explanations for Red Cell’s presence—a meeting where three members of the Pyramid will present.

The coterie discussed their treasonous plan and decided to eliminate the Pyramid 2.0 before killing the prince. Everett needs to get the Brujah on-side, Evangeline will drum up public support, Val suggested drugging lesser clan leaders with Tremere blood to frame the Pyramid in a larger conspiracy, and Doris will get herself kidnapped to justify an assault on the Pyramid. But first, can they safely and covertly obtain the blood of a Tremere?

At the office, Red Cell released Kenneth Kishimoto when Everett gave them the name of Ridley’s mother. Doris warned the coterie that Red Cell was militarizing, Everett convinced Evangeline to stay for now and help for the innocent people, and Val suggested that a solution to their problems might be to kill the Prince and install Matthew Theobald in his place. That may have remained theoretical, but Vladimir just told them that Matthew is in.

Doris immediately became convinced that Theobald was responsible for Cleopatra’s death, Val carried her back to the car and tried to reason with her, and when Theobald presented them all with bespoke gifts, Evangeline told a small lie, causing Everett to become paranoid about her intent. Theobald has offered to solve their blood shortage, but will his price be too high?

Evangeline questioned Everett and Mr. Kishimoto to try to prove Val’s innocence and her value to New Haven, and Doris called the Prince to the stand, though he quickly became offended and ended the call. As deliberations began, Everett inadvertently angered Toastarosa by revealing that peace talks (or war) were beginning without the Prince’s knowledge. Barty told the coterie that, according to Camarilla law, Val should be executed for her attack on the sheriff, but he’d allow them to hold a trial first. However, when they tried to convince Barty that all of this was unnecessary, he had to call upon Alabaster Kane to step in as prosecution. With Doris and Evangeline as the defense, Everett set the rules of the trial to try to improve their odds of winning, but is there any hope now that the Prince is involved?

As the coterie rushed the sheriff to the hospital, Evangeline lost control and strangled Doris, who managed to leap out of the trunk and narrowly escape a member of the Pyramid, only to have her own beast force Barty to repair his door. The altercation between Val and Everett continued in the basement. Doris followed the sheriff’s orders and returned upstairs to draw, Evangeline left as well, though only after Val was staked, un-staked, and staked again and Everett ordered her to leave, and finally Val put Everett into torpor with her fists and brought his limp body upstairs to gloat. The compulsion has ended and the beast is at bay, but is it too late for Everett Fry?

After harsh words were exchanged, Evangeline pursued Val to talk her down, but Val’s beast had other, more violent ideas. Everett stepped in and moved the impending brawl with Val down to the basement, away from prying eyes. Meanwhile, Doris did a tea leaf reading to find the missing mother, though she was mistaken about whose mother she was looking for. Will Val satisfy her compulsions, or will she be torn apart by Good Boy first?

Sister Kurt accepted Evangeline and Doris’s offer to enter the Night Church as civilians, and led them to a secret room hiding eleven Malkavian refugees, each with peculiar triggers that would pose a risk to the masquerade. Meanwhile, Everett and Val broke in through the back and, after some tense moments, the sheriff agreed that the Malkavians could stay. But the question remains: how to solve a blood shortage with eleven new citizens?

After speaking with Will, Val confronted Doris about putting her son to sleep and threatened to hurt Troy if Doris ever did anything like it again. While the Brujah fought their own battle, the coterie faced down two sets of enemies driving into town. Everett crumpled his car, but continued to fight, giving Doris the opportunity to compel their targets to shoot each other and then themselves. On the other side of Main Street, Val crashed into the SUV and leapt inside to attack within, while Evangeline kept her distance and killed the enemies without. But will their victory subdue the Notte Nostra?

In the midst of the Friendship Festival, Pyramid 2.0 leader Dylan Zane tried to manipulate Doris’s tarot deck, but ended up with a reading that suggested chaos was coming. Everett had to wait for Madre at the end of the three-legged race, which Evangeline won and then conceded, and Val returned to the station to try to talk sense into Will, but ultimately agreed that if he still felt the same in three months’ time, she’d turn him into a vampire herself.

The coterie determined that the likely culprit behind the animal attacks was Harvey, thanks in part to Doris’s sketch of Jiro’s Flower Shirt Man. Val found Mr. Kitty’s collar in the pile of bodies, Evangeline questioned Jiro kindly and helped assuage the Kishimotos’ fears, and Everett confronted Harvey, who admitted to killing the animals to calm his beast. The sheriff’s department discovered a home filled with clowns, bodies and traps! The coroner’s findings led them to the home of Hooty Tooty Rooty, an ice cream salesman. Doris was prepared to compel the suspect and Val joined her, discovering a horrifying clown-themed bedroom upstairs. Meanwhile Evangeline’s famulus ran into the basement through a side window searching for evidence, and summoned Everett who discovered more bodies… before he triggered a silver nitrate bomb that could kill them all!

With the coterie still separated, Everett found himself face-to-face with an old acquaintance, made a tentative alliance with some werewolves, and finally fed, hopefully to begin healing. Back in town, a despondent Evangeline returned to an empty home, Doris completed her potion and meditated on her tarot cards, and Val arrived at the station to several surprise visitors demanding hospitality. A very injured Everett awoke to the werewolf Simon Longfellow demanding answers about the Children of Lilith, Evangeline was reunited with her famulus, Percy, and passed a vigil being held for the kindred she had killed, Doris released her prisoner, after briefly feeding off of him, and Val reviewed footage of the sheriff being abducted and decided she must find him soon. But can she find the sheriff in time to salvage what is left of New Haven?

The coterie struggled against the harmful effects of the daytime until night set in amidst a town on edge. Evangeline focused only on getting her dog back from the vet while her husband searched for her, Val returned home to find her son was safe, and Doris took shelter at Margery’s, where her tarot reading assured her that everything would be fine. Everett barely survived his fall, and as he smoulders alone in the forest, will the lupine figure biting him finally be his end?

With the shooters having blown up the squad car, damaged Cherry and peeled away in different directions, the coterie commandeered two vehicles and split up to cover more ground. Doris stayed behind to watch the crime scene and had a meaningful conversation about nothing with occult shop owner Margery Pritchard, Everett and Val cornered one of the vans in an alley and began their attack, and Evangeline found the second van as it came out of nowhere and crashed into her.

The Coterie arrived at the Sunset Retirement Home to gather evidence and find those who had sent the frenzied attackers. Evangeline explained to Everett how they investigate crimes, Doris compelled Loreley Beerfass to reveal that it had not, in fact, been a “normal night” and Val broke into a locked shed only to find bloody symbols on the ground and a corpse, its flayed face contorted in a scream.
