Luis Robles explains MLS Next's quality of play rankings to the skeptics (Soccer 4/8) Apr 08, 2025

Show notes

Jimmy Conrad, Charlie Davies, and Tony Meola welcome MLS Next Technical Director Luis Robles to the show to unpack the newly-unveiled Quality of Play rankings. As the architect behind the pilot program, Luis breaks down the thinking, methodology, and long-term vision driving this bold shift in how youth player development is assessed in America.

Coming on the heels of Tab Ramos' pointed criticism—calling the initiative “cookies for nice passes”—Luis addresses the skepticism head-on. How exactly is “quality” being defined? Can this model produce better professionals—or just more robotic players? And what role does US Soccer play in shaping the future of American talent?

Plus, is AC Milan the right club for Yunus Musah? The guys discuss Musah's downturn in form and weigh up the risks of leaving the Italian giants ahead of the World Cup.
