Buckeyes land stud corner in transfer portal Feb 01, 2023

Ohio State landed cornerback Davison Igbinosun from Ole Miss in the transfer portal on Tuesday. Not only does he fill a big need for the Buckeyes, but Igbinosun was the highest-rated player regardless of position remaining in the transfer portal.

The Buckeyes have done a good job overall this season in the portal, as they also landed the top safety on the market in Ja'Had Carter from Syracuse, brought in a solid offensive lineman in Victor Cutler from Louisiana-Monroe, and solidified their depth at quarterback with Oregon State transfer Tristan Gebbia.

Now that Igbinosun is in the fold, what does the depth chart look like for Ohio State at cornerback in 2023?

Also, it's a huge day on the OSU beat as we will interview head coach Ryan Day and all of the assistant coaches this morning and into the early afternoon. What are we looking forward to hearing about the most?

You know what that means? We are on to 2024.

247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong will be at 247Sports HQ in Nashville tomorrow for all the NSD pomp and circumtance.

Laurinaitis is coming home | Buckeyes stuck with Holtmann? Jan 30, 2023

Former Ohio State All-American linebacker James Laurinaitis is returning to his alma mater as a graduate assistant coach. What does this mean for the Buckeyes? Will Laurinaitis be able to help with recruiting? What about on-field coaching? And what might his future hold at OSU? Will he be the Buckeyes' linebackers coach before long? Could he eventually be the defensive version of Brian Hartline for Ohio State, both as a coach and recruiter?

Switching gears, who will be the Buckeyes' three starting safeties this season? There is a lot of quality depth at the position, including Lathan Ransom, Syracuse transfer Ja'Had Carter, Sonny Styles, Kye Stokes, Cameron Martinez, Kourt Williams and others.

We don't talk much OSU basketball on the show, but we need to address the Chris Holtmann situation. It's year No. 6 of his regime and the Buckeyes have plummeted to 11-10 overall and 3-7 in Big Ten play, including 1-7 in their last eight games. However, due to Ohio State giving Holtmann a 3-year contract extension this past offseason -- which runs through the next five seasons -- OSU appears to be stuck with him for at least another season and perhaps more.

Depth deficiency on the football roster? | Time to 'pay for play' via NIL? Jan 25, 2023

We take questions from Bucknuts subscribers and more on today's show as Matt Baxendell joins Dave Biddle. We begin with a question that opines the Buckeyes have a lack of quality depth on their football roster. Are the Buckeyes focused enough on managing injuries and developing depth? Or are they "stat hunting" with some of their standout players? Specifically, the subscriber who posed the question brought up guys like middle linebacker Tommy Eichenberg who often played deep into blowouts, as well as running back Miyan Williams. He further makes the statement that Alabama and Georgia can afford some injuries, but due to OSU's lack of depth in his opinion, the Buckeyes cannot afford it. Do we agree with his opinion?

The other main questions we tackle deal with NIL. Here are the questions, verbatim: "NIL is not supposed to be pay for play but it seems like it's happening all across the CFB landscape. Is OSU's stance on not being providing deals for HS kids something at the state level or an OSU policy or a policy of the football program itself? Do you see OSU trying to get more aggressive than we have been? And are you in favor of us playing the pay for play game or would you rather we continue as we have been and only reward students once they are committed and enrolled?"
