Ep. 193: Ohio State spring football preview, featuring Justin Fields, Garrett Wilson, Zach Harrison and young players fighting for jobs Feb 20, 2019
    Show notes

Spring football will begin for Ohio State on March 4. In this episode of Buckeye Talk, Doug and Stephen get you ready for Ryan Day's first spring as coach with a full breakdown of every position group.

Will Garrett Wilson prove as a freshman receiver that he needs to play in the fall? How will offensive linemen Josh Myers and Wyatt Davis adjust as starters? There seem to be plenty of position fights ahead on the defense -- will young players like Tommy Togiai, Taron Vincent, Teradja Mitchell, Sevyn Banks and Josh Proctor challenge for starting jobs?

And at running back, how much will the Buckeyes lean on J.K. Dobbins in the fall, or how much will other backs show in the spring that they can help the run game?

Doug and Stephen each offer their five Buckeyes to watch this spring. Then it's on to your questions and a breakdown of the basketball Buckeyes and their NCAA Tournament hopes.

Thanks as always for listening to Buckeye Talk.

Ep. 192: Why the Buckeyes are in better shape for the College Football Playoff Feb 13, 2019
    Show notes

Doug Lesmerises and Stephen Means are joined by Tim Bielik in a three-man Buckeye Talk booth to talk about Gene Smith's resignation from the College Football Playoff committee, Buckeyes that could land in the new minor league football startups, offensive line recruiting and more.

They take your questions, as usual, and also dip into Tim's new world as the owner of a bird.

Thanks as always for listening to Buckeye Talk.

    Show notes

Stephen Means and Doug Lesmerises break down the second signing period for college football, including the first Buckeye appearances of transfer quarterback Justin Fields and new co-defensive coordinator Greg Mattison, as well as Ryan Day’s press conference Wednesday.

Thanks once again for listening to Buckeye Talk from cleveland.com.

Ep. 190: What recruits will Ohio State add for the late National Signing Day? Jan 30, 2019
    Show notes

Doug Lesmerises and Stephen Means preview the second signing period for college football, with the Buckeyes expected to add another three or four players to the roster by next Wednesday.

What positions do the Buckeyes need? And could they fill out the 2019 recruiting class with a major get or two in the final week?

After the recruiting needs, on this latest episode of Buckeye Talk, Doug and Stephen focus on the basketball Buckeyes and what their NCAA Tournament hopes look like after a very rough January.

Then they take your questions on whether the football team could suffer a dropoff under Ryan Day; when the football team will have a national championship level offense and defense at the same time; what Dwayne Haskins will do for how the NFL views Ohio State quarterbacks; and much more.

Thanks once again for listening to Buckeye Talk from cleveland.com.

Ep. 189: Is Ohio State football’s coaching staff better than last year’s staff? Jan 24, 2019
    Show notes

New Ohio State coach Ryan Day officially has his 10-man coaching staff in place. Is it better or worse than the Buckeyes coaching staff from 2018?

Doug Lesmerises and Stephen Means get into that and more in the latest Buckeye Talk episode. They answer questions on offensive line talent and depth; Demario McCall's role; transfer rules; Justin Fields; and how many scholarships are available.

And then they checked in on the basketball Buckeyes, who are now on a five-game losing streak.

Thanks again for listening to Buckeye Talk.

Ep. 188: Will Ohio State’s quarterback situation be OK without Tate Martell? Jan 17, 2019
    Show notes

Tate Martell is gone and Buckeye Talk is here to say goodbye.

But on this edition of America's favorite Ohio State football podcast, Doug Lesmerises and Stephen Means don't only focus on the guy who's gone, with Martell transferring to Miami.

They also took a guess at Ohio State's offensive and defensive players of the year for 2019, looked at what the NFL decisions (to leave and stay) mean for the Buckeyes and their scholarship numbers and tried to examine the schedule and imagine reasonable expectations for the Buckeyes next season.

Also, there's an unexpected and very brief cameo from someone you are sure to recognize.

It's another Buckeye Talk and as always, thanks for listening. And farewell Tathan.

Ep. 187: Would Dwayne Haskins have torn up Alabama like Trevor Lawrence did? Jan 09, 2019
    Show notes

Alabama’s defense was beatable in the National Championship game on Monday night. Clemson and true freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence beat the Tide.

Would Ohio State and quarterback Dwayne Haskins have done the same?

In the first Buckeye Talk Podcast back in Ohio since the Rose Bowl, Doug and Stephen imagined the Buckeyes in the title game and how Ohio State’s offense and defense would have fared against the Tigers.

Then they broke down the impact of all the Buckeyes players and coaches that have stayed, have departed and have been added in the past week. That ranges from players like Dwayne Haskins, K.J. Hill and Michael Jordan to coaches like Greg Schiano, Al Washington and Mike Yurcich.

And yes, they said goodbye to Bill Davis, a Buckeye Talk favorite, while taking your questions.

    Also, Stephen hates chocolate.

It’s another busy Buckeye Talk. As always, thanks for listening.

Ep. 186: Which Ohio State players and coaches are staying and going and a Rose Bowl wrap Jan 02, 2019
    Show notes

In the final daily podcast from the Rose Bowl, Doug Lesmerises wraps up Ohio State's 28-23 win over Washington and looks at what happened as the Huskies closed the gap in the second half, outgaining the Buckeyes 293 yards to 92 over the final 30 minutes.

Then it's on to the future with your questions, and what comes next with players and assistant coaches who might stay and might leave.

We break all of them down.

We also ponder how to rank Urban Meyer's seven Ohio State teams and how long Ryan Day will stay as the coach of the Buckeyes. Will he put in more years or fewer years than Meyer?

It's time to head back to Ohio soon, but thanks for listening to all six our daily podcasts from Los Angeles.

Ep. 185: Rose Bowl preview and coaching ruthlessness Jan 01, 2019
    Show notes

Our fifth daily Rose Bowl podcast is, at long last, a game preview, and we made it a party.

Recorded in the media room in the lead-up to midnight West Coast time on New Year’s Eve, Doug Lesmerises was joined by old friends Bill Landis and Ari Wasserman of The Athletic, as well as James Grega of Buckeye Sports Bulletin and Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors to talk about the matchup between the Buckeyes and the Washington Huskies, and much more.

It’s a rollicking Buckeye Talk with some background noise, and some of you may find it annoying.

But it’s definitely a different vibe from a typical show, so give it a shot.

Our final daily Rose Bowl podcast will come at you after the Rose Bowl, when we’ll break down the game and get into how Urban Meyer handled his farewell, while taking all your questions about this season.

As always, thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk.

Ep. 184: Should Ohio State fans be rooting for Tate Martell? Dec 31, 2018
    Show notes

There’s more Tate Martell discussion on the latest daily Rose Bowl Buckeye Talk podcast, because two stories and a video on Martell at cleveland.com on Sunday wasn’t enough.

Beyond the potential quarterback battle between Martell and Justin Fields in the spring, Doug Lesmerises talked about his conversation at media day with linebackers coach and podcast favorite Bill Davis.

There’s a look at the 2019 receiver room, an explanation of an injury on the offensive line and some Tim May talk.

Thanks as always for listening to Buckeye Talk.
