We all want to write copy that actually connects with our readers, right? Whenever we sit down to write something for our business, we are hoping our writing is intriguing enough that it captures our ideal clients attention, keeps them reading until the end, and then ultimately leads them to buy. But how do you do that?

In this episode, I'm chatting with conversion copywriter Elise Hodge, and she’s sharing 4 secrets to writing copy that connects with our dream clients: specifically for sales pages and other sales copy (although honestly - these secrets could work ANY time you sit down to write). These four secrets will help you craft an INSTANT connection with your dream client.

    We also talk about:

    • What marketing strategies are outdated in 2023 (and what will stand the test of time)
    • What you should have in mind when you sit down to write a piece of copy
    • Why you DON’T have to be creative to write copy
    • And so much more!

This is definitely an episode you don’t want to miss! I loved Elise’ tips and will definitely be putting them into practice the next time I sit down to write a sales page!

214: Wealthy Women Know Their Numbers: Building Long-Term Wealth Through Money Mindset and Money Management with Erinn Bridgman May 16, 2023

Today on the podcast, we are talking about building wealth as women. To be honest, I don’t believe this is talked about enough. So often, the focus is simply on making more money, but what happens after that? After you pay yourself, what do you do with that money? I interviewed Erinn Bridgman, who has built a successful real estate business and is a money mindset coach for female entrepreneurs.

In this episode, we talked about:

    • How she used funds from her photography business to fund her real estate business in the beginning
    • Her journey in real estate investing so far (from her first home flip to now managing 20 doors)
    • How our money mindset affects us as women, especially
    • The difference between being profitable and being wealthy
    • How (and when) we can raise our salary as business owners
    • Advice for going into real estate investing with family and friends

And so much more. Seriously, I LOVED this interview, and I know you will too. Whether you are interested in real estate or not, I loved having her share her perspective on building long-term wealth on the podcast today!

I’m speaking here from my perspective being the mom of a toddler and a business owner.

In this episode, I’m giving you 3 major words of encouragement from my home to yours this Mother’s Day, and I pray these meet you where you’re at! You’ll also hear from another podcast episode (yep, I’m playing an audio from an episode on a podcast I love) and I’ll be reading to you from a favorite motherhood book as well.

Now, Amy balances running LippyClip while pursuing a master's in theology

Here’s a sneak peek into what we covered:

    • How she scaled her business and built her team

    • How she grew different distribution channels (she started on Etsy)

211: My Top 3 Hacks for Making It EASY to Make Money as an Affiliate Apr 25, 2023
    Show notes

Affiliate income is an AMAZING way to earn extra money as a business owner. If you want to share things you love with people who may already be asking you about those things, affiliate income is for you.

And here’s the thing: for years now, my business has earned multiple five figures a year from affiliate income alone. I've even had years where it's been over a hundred thousand dollars of revenue coming from affiliate income alone. I’m telling you that for two reasons:

    1. What I’m doing to make affiliate income WORKS
    2. If it looks like I'm not spending tons of time and energy working on making affiliate income, it's because I'm not.

I'm not saying affiliate marketing is passive, but it is more passive than other types of income we typically have as business owners. And today, I’m going to share 3 hacks to make adding an affiliate income revenue stream to your business even easier.

And a little reminder from a website designer? You’ll make more affiliate income when you have a great website.

Not only are you more likely to get approved by affiliate companies that have stricter programs when you have a website, but you'll also be set up to make more affiliate income when you can blog and create landing pages for the companies that you partner with. My full website templates all come equipped with an amazing blog design that is set up to support you whether you're like writing your first three blog posts ever or you're transferring over 200+ blog posts to your new Showit website.

As a blogger and podcaster myself, I put so much strategy into thinking through the blog templates. I make sure I’m creating thoughtfully designed sidebars to maximize space so that readers can know whether or not they want to click into a post to read it, and make sure that each layout has clear search functionality so that people can find what they need within your content. I also always design thoughtful 404 pages for when you have a broken link.

If that sounds like what you need right now, use the code BBPODCAST for 10% off ANY template from my shop.

210: The Top AI Tools to Free up Time AND Improve Your Business with Dawn Richardson Apr 18, 2023
    Show notes

Today, we are talking about the #1 buzzword in the online space right now: AI. I’ve brought in Dawn Richardson, owner of Tech Savvy Creative and long-time online friend (and Elizabeth McCravy shop customer!). We met IRL recently at the Creative Educator Conference a few months ago, and I reached out to her immediately after asking her to come on the podcast and talk about the top AI tools to free up your time in your business.

A little bit of background info for you: Dawn was a software engineer turned wedding photographer and is now back in the tech space. So she REALLY gets it. Her mission is to help creative entrepreneurs leverage the power of technology to regain more time freedom, which you all know is near and dear to my heart! She’s so helpful and really breaks down tech in a way that we can all understand (and get from tech-overwhelm to tech-empowered), and I couldn’t be more grateful to have her sharing her wisdom with us today.

Here are a few things you'll hear on today's episode:

    • What is Chat GPT and what should we be using it for?
    • the #1 thing we should all be automating as creative business owners
    • simple automations you can set up QUICKLY that make a big difference
    • more advanced tools you can use for team meetings, scaling your business, and more.
    • when to SWITCH your current tools and when to stay

If you want to automate your business or take advantage of more of the top AI tools, I know you'll love this interview as much as I did.

209: How To Get IN THE ZONE When Working On A Design Project Apr 11, 2023
    Show notes

Designers - today’s episode is for YOU. Whether it's designing a website, creating a brand, or even just a simple graphic for a blog post, sometimes our creative minds just hit a wall. Maybe you can’t focus, or you just don’t feel like it, or you are actively looking for the inspiration, but you just can’t find it.

Recently, I launched a new template, and it got me thinking about my own creative process again. As a designer, there are times when we need to get in the zone and really focus on the project at hand, right? For example, when I was creating the new template, there were two times that I really had to get in the zone for an extended period of time.

First, was during the “idea stage”. I had to think about the fonts and colors, the vibe, who is it for, and so much more. Later on, I had to make big tweaks and envision what cool things we could do within the template.

In both situations, I needed to be creative and get in the zone, which is one of my favorite things to do as a designer anyway. It's a treasure to be able to turn off other business hats and focus solely on the design project. I know many of you listening feel the same way because you love being designers and you love the work you do. So today, I’m sharing 5 tips for getting in the zone when working on a design project.

I would love to see how you make it your own, so make sure to find me on Instagram @elizabethmccravy and share what works for you when you get in the zone.

208: Juggling Too Much? 4 Keys to Maintaining Your Sanity as a Mom and Business Owner with Ashley Freehan Apr 04, 2023
    Show notes

This episode is for the mama’s out there who feel that balancing business life with mom life is harder than you signed up for. I’m raising my hand here too. Today on the podcast, we have Ashley Freehan, a brand photographer and a productivity and motherhood coach for mom photographers. She’s also a fellow podcaster, a wife, and a home-schooling mom of two! She’s passionate about helping moms confidently step into the role of CEO in their businesses so that they can manage their limited time with efficiency, intention, and joy without sacrificing their family or their sanity. Doesn’t that sound amazing?

In this episode, Ashley is walking us through 4 keys to maintaining your sanity as a business owner and a mom. We talked about things like:

    • Self-care as moms (in a practical sense for us moms)
    • Setting boundaries with your kids so you can take care of yourself
    • Why working in “small pockets of time” probably isn’t working for you (and what to do instead!)
    • How to be more present (and on your phone less!)
    • How Ashley is currently using social media in her business
    • What your children really need from you as their mom
    • How to focus on what moves the needle

Ashley Freehan gives us the permission we need to stop working in pockets of time (like nap time!) and take control over our self-care. I hope you love this interview as much as I did.

207: The Biggest Lessons & Highlights of My 7 Years in Business Mar 28, 2023
    Show notes

Although I was freelancing for a while before I started my business, I count March 29th, 2016 as the day things started. When I think back to that day and that moment, I can still feel the nerves. It’s a really big deal to start a business!

So today, in this episode, I want to share some (four!) of the biggest lessons I’ve learned over the last 7 years (with an emphasis on mistakes I’ve made in more recent years but if you are interested in past lessons learned, head to episode #60 + episode #111 for past business anniversary reflections!).

I also want to share some of the highlights over the last seven years. There are some things that just stick out in my mind as my “best moments in business” that I haven’t shared publicly on the podcast before. I want to take some time to celebrate those with you in this episode.

Whether you are in your first year or seventh year (or you have even been in business for longer than I have!), I hope you love reflecting back over the last seven years in business with me. I’m overjoyed to be able to share with you!
