The End of Breaking Bad. Wow. I think I’m still in denial, honestly, but what I’m not denying is this: this was the most incredible finale season I’ve ever seen, and I am 100% satisfied with how things went for the final episode.

Thanks to everyone who showed up for our Finale party tonight, thanks to everyone who joined in on USTREAM, thanks to everyone who has supported us through this season, starting with our Kickstarter project, all the way up through each and every week with your feedback, theories, speculation, spoilers, you all make this cast what it is.

Can’t wait to see what you all think this week! And don’t forget, we’ll be doing a special wrap up edition next week, and we might have an expanded mailbag for this week or next if we get the expected volume of mail.

515 – Granite State Sep 25, 2013

Show notes

The penultimate episode turned out to be the calm before the presumed storm of the finale. It featured many scenes of quiet introspection, a character study of two desperate men; one with no choices available to him at all, and the other with a few good choices left but lacking the will to act on any of them, too prideful and stubborn to admit defeat. Not to his lawyer, not to the authorities, not to his family, not to death himself.

Come join us for a discussion of vulgar neo-nazi gang signs, dopey, dead-eyed pieces of shit, the arguable “death” of Heisenberg, grey matters, the plump, full lips gang, Flynn’s righteous anger, and the straw(s) that un-broke the Heisenberg’s back.

515 – Granite State – Instant Take Sep 23, 2013

Show notes

We had a lot to say about this episode, without talking about the actual episode. Is that weird? It’s just all our thoughts and feelings about this season, and where it’s going, and whether we feel good about it or not. It’s a weird “instant cast” for a weird, slower paced, brutal penultimate episode. I think my last hopes for even a modicum of happy ending died tonight. Can’t wait to see what everybody else thought!

514 – Ozymandias Sep 18, 2013

Show notes

Watching this episode took a year off my life, Princess Bride-style. It felt like it lasted 3 weeks long. It was sad, heart-pounding, gut wrenching, and absolutely a stunning hour of television. Find out what our final review was, as we discuss Uncle Jack’s soft spot, Ozymandias references and homages, the curious indifference to reckless driving and bullet holes by the NM State Police, stray dogs, and stealth f-bombs. All this, your feedback, and a very, very light spoiler section as we enter the home stretch of this final season of Breaking Bad.

Malia dedicates this podcast to everyone who could never get enough of talking about Breaking Bad and to Denise, who always asked her about Breaking Bad — even though she didn’t watch — because, she said, “It’s fun to see you light up when you talk about it!” “Ozymandias” is the pinnacle. Thanks, Jim and A. Ron for keeping the conversation going.

513 – To’hajiilee Sep 11, 2013

Show notes

Hello and welcome to the back half of the final season of Breaking Bad. This week we discuss “To’hajiilee”, where Jesse hits Walt where he really lives, out in the deep desert, with eight figures buried just under foot. Join Jim and A.Ron as they discuss Huell’s waffles, Saul’s fifty, Hank’s gambit, Walt’s surrender, Todd’s creep, snot-yellow meth, neo-nazi marksmanship, and Hank’s fleeting moment of triumph. All this, your feedback, and a bit of the old spoiler action in our proprietary spoiler section at the end of the cast.

Speaking of which, DO NOT CLICK THE FOLLOWING LINK IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE POTENTIALLY SPOILED REGARDING THE PLOT OF THE FINAL THREE EPISODES. I personally think the likelihood of these spoilers being accurate is pretty low, but I didn’t read them so you do so at your own risk. MEGA-WATT SPOILERS.

513 – To’hajiilee – Instant Take Sep 09, 2013

Show notes

While quite a few people got some of the broad strokes right, again, Vince Gilligan and crew made sure that we were all left guessing and trying to puzzle out where we were going until The End… and what an end it was. Jim and A.Ron struggle to put their thoughts into words as we deliver a instant take where we try to make sense of how we got here, what we thought of it, and where we’re left. Join us for our full coverage Tuesday night!

512 – Rabid Dog Sep 04, 2013

Show notes

This episode, 512 entitle “Rabid Dog” turned out to be a bit of a breather, especially compared with the previous 3 of this final season. Not a bad thing, or our hearts would explode before the end. Still lots and lots to talk about, including hitting Walt where he “really” lives, the sour turn Skyler, Marie, and Hank seemed to take this week, the continued heart break of poor Walt Jr, Aaron Paul and Dean Norris’s continued excellence, Babylon 5, Walt’s room clearing ability, and much more. All this, your awesome feedback and analysis, as well as a bit of spoiler discussion after the protective wall of music! Hope you enjoy!

A.Ron and I rushed off to the mics again to talk about episode 512, “Rabid Dog”. We ask the hard questions such as: Has Skyler broken bad? Has Hank broken bad? Is there any freakin’ one on this show who HASN’T broken bad? Also, what would Huel do with Walt’s money?

511 – Confessions Aug 28, 2013

Show notes

Jim and A.Ron celebrate one of the greatest episodes in Breaking Bad / Television history! By anyone’s estimate, episode 511, “Confessions”, was tense, gripping, and incredibly satisfying to watch. We can’t disagree.

Join us for an indepth discussion of manipulation, frozen firearms, creepy manhugs, Aaron Paul’s subtler moments, Hank trapped in a jar, and much, much more. All this, and our all-star listener feedback and voicemails, as well as our spoiler section, safely ensconced behind a wall of protective outro music.

I’d like to pride a few links that are relevant to parts of our discussion; Anna Gunn’s New York Times op-ed on her experiences playing Skyler White, and Mo’ Ryan’s piece furthering the examination the frequent viewer hatred of her character. Great reads!
