Show notes

Why Shivaay threatened to be a good film with some admirable cinematography, gripping action sequences and a reliable performance from Ajay Devgn, but is let down by a stretched narrative with too many logic gaps.

S1 Ep49: Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Nov 03, 2016

Show notes

Our verdict on #ADHM - Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, yet again in Bollywood this year a solid first half is ruined by a messy second half which ends up being a mish-mash of various Ranbir, KJo and Dharma/YRF films in previous years.

We also discuss new trailers including Rock On 2, Kahaani 2, and Kaabil - plus our favourite web series including #DiceLittleThings, Better Life Foundation, Bang Baaja Baarat and more!

S1 Ep47: MS Dhoni: The Untold Story Oct 05, 2016

Show notes

What worked and didn't work in MS Dhoni: including a stellar performance by Sushant and an uneven performance by CGI Sushant, why the movie faded in the second half as it got entangled in romance while glossing over some key elements, and as promised -some eye-opening insights into the man's journey to the top.

Plus, trailer reviews and a casting call for Karan Deol's heroine to be launched. No, really.

S1 Ep46: PINK Sep 27, 2016

Show notes

Why PINK, despite it's flaws, is essential viewing for everyone - perfectly bringing out the archaic thinking that underpins our society even today. We still have no idea about the name though.
Still on PINK - Taapsee Pannu and Kriti Kulhari give career defining promises, while Mr. Bachchan is on such a higher plane that this performance actually felt a bit average. Piyush Mishra, though.....no, just no.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil trailer is finally out! We now have a definitive theory on the plot, and we have it on fairly good authority that its more or less accurate.
Banjo disappears without a trace.
Vir Das has a Netflix special! Or he will soon.

S1 Ep45: Freaky Ali, Judwaa 2 announcement and Bollywood's struggles Sep 19, 2016

Show notes

Nawazuddin is Freaky good as Freaky Ali, but the rest of the movie, script and direction fail to match his high standards - though it has its moments.

In other news, Varun Dhawan announces Judwaa 2 (we can't wait to see who makes the music) and we ponder whether Bollywood has lost its identity in light of the industry's commercial struggles this year.

S1 Ep44: Baar Baar Dekho Sep 13, 2016

Show notes

Why 'Baar Baar Dekho' is in fact a one-time watch - but still deserves at least that one watch. While the acting and script leaves a lot to be desired, the overall concept and message - plus the cinematography - deserves to be applauded.

S1 Ep43: Happy Bhag Jayegi Sep 05, 2016

Show notes

Why Happy Bhag Jayegi is the first true feel-good comedy in 2016 (and maybe even longer)
A big reason for that is the performances of Abhay Deol, Jimmy Sheirgill, Piyush Mishra - pretty much the entire case barring Diana Penty, who does tend to overact.
