It was a cold autumn night on November 6th 2019. The spirits were lively as it was the first night of the Southside Podfest. The Bob After Dark team was one of the groups opening the show and boy it was spooky. Come listen to the never before heard live recording of one of Chicagos most famous ghost stories. The Italian Bride. Live from the Southside Podfest. We had a blast at this festival, and had everyone there. The Italian Bride story is one of Chicago’s most famous ghost stories. In short, The Bride is buried at Mt. Carmel cemetery. Upon her death, her mother was haunted by dreams saying that she was still alive and needed help. Getting permission to dig up the grave, the body was in no way in any state of decay. This is also the origin story of the Easter Island Massacre!

A couple weeks back we looked at the goat demon known as Krampus. The anti-Santa. As scary as he is, we look at a figure probably even scarier than him. Frau Pertcha is well…a Christmas nightmare. Imagine being bad, and instead of being whisked away by Krampus, you are killed in your bed. To be ripped open, and have your insides being replaced with rocks. Frau is well…scary. She is a mostly forgotten part of Christmas traditions past. Only to rediscovered by your rag-tag team of podcast hosts. This episode may not be the most suitable for our younger audiences.

Have you been a good boy or girl this year? If the answer is no, then you may not be happy with the outcome. Instead of the fat guy in the red suit coming down a chimney bringing you presents, you may find yourself being tossed into a cage from some sort of goat demon. This episode, we look at the Anti-Santa, the Krampus. In old times Germany, good kids would be looking forward to getting a visit from St. Nick, while the bad…you get the idea. Krampus would leave bad kids switches, or in an extreme circumstances, you would get taken via cage back to the Krampus lair. Only to be tortured, and eaten. This bit of lore has oozed out into popular culture, with a popular movie, and even Krampus Cosplayers. On this episode, friend of BAD, Kael Star calls in. Kael leads a paranormal investigation team known as KS Paranormal, and is apart of group called Milwaukee Krampus. An organization that dresses as characters and helps raise money for charity, and does various other toy drives. Kael shares with us some history of the Krampus, and talks about a festival she participates in called, “Krampus-Nacht” the evening before when Krampus comes to visit.

    Show notes

Sometime during the Muromachi period in Ancient Japan (1336-1573) there was a poet by the name of Sōgi. He claimed that he saw a woman appear during a snow storm, and then just vanish into the snow fall. This was the written account of The Yuki-Onna. The Yuki-Onna is a type of Yōkai, or a Japanese classification of ghost, demon, or even cryptid. The Yuki-Onna is a female spirit whom has supernatural abilities. Some of which relate back to some of the Native Tribes in North America call The Wendigo. Those are the deer like creatures that are able to throw their voices, cause snow storms, and various other powers. The Yuki-Onna has similar. She waits for wandering hikers and lumberjacks. Causing the sound of a woman in distress, or even a baby crying. The Yuki-Onna then waits for said person to investigate only to cause insane snow storms, and freezes the unsuspecting victims alive. This is the first episode of the podcast version of Bob After Dark, a paranormal radio show syndicated through Greater Chicago Land from WJOB.
