Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh vowed to restore price stability following his first policy meeting since taking the helm of the US central bank, after officials left interest rates unchanged and signaled growing support for rate hikes this year.

“Persistently high prices are a burden for the American people, but the recent past need not be prologue,” Warsh said in his debut press conference as chairman. Officials “are unambiguous and unanimous. This committee will deliver price stability.”

At the same time Warsh played down somewhat the projections from his colleagues showing nine officials foresee at least one quarter-point hike this year, with six anticipating at least two. Another nine expected no move or a cut.

On this episode, guest hosts Christina Ruffini and Bloomberg's Emily Graffeo speak with:

Iran’s World Cup Team Divides Diaspora in LA’s ‘Tehrangeles’ Jun 17, 2026
    Show notes

The people, companies and trends shaping the global economy. Watch Carol and Tim LIVE every day on YouTube: http://bit.ly/3vTiACF.

Inside a Los Angeles cafe, the strife between the US and Iran faded briefly into the background as Iran opened its 2026 World Cup campaign in Southern California against New Zealand, ending with a respectable 2-2 draw.

As soon as the 90 minutes was up, the politics returned. Iran coach Amir Ghalenoei said his country is the "most oppressed team in the World Cup" in a press conference after the game, and claimed the team was being forced to return to their training base in Mexico without time for recovery.

The discord struck a nerve in parts of Los Angeles, which are sometimes dubbed Tehrangeles because the region is home to the world's largest Iranian diaspora community. While almost everyone in this expatriate enclave opposes the current government, many retain a loyalty to their national squad, known as Team Melli.

Bloomberg News LA bureau chief John Gittelsohn talks with Carol and Tim about the complex dynamics involved with Iran's FIFA World Cup team playing in the US.

SpaceX Rallies For Third Straight Day, Becoming World's Fifth Largest Stock Jun 16, 2026
    Show notes

The people, companies and trends shaping the global economy. Watch Carol and Tim LIVE every day on YouTube: http://bit.ly/3vTiACF.

SpaceX jumped for a third straight day on Tuesday, overtaking Amazon.com in value to become the fifth-largest stock in the world.

Shares closed 4.8% higher, pushing its market capitalization to $2.65 trillion, roughly $8 billion higher than Amazon’s. At the stock’s intraday high, the market value of Elon Musk’s rocket and AI company topped Microsoft to briefly become the world’s fourth-largest stock.

At least some of the price action since its debut has been driven by the relatively small number of SpaceX shares available to trade, with only about 4.2% accessible on day one. That can make trading more volatile, with the stock more prone to large swings that can quickly change its market value.

On this episode, Carol and Tim speak with:

    • Bailey Lipschultz, Bloomberg News IPO Reporter on SpaceX's continued rally
    • Simon White, Bloomberg Macro Strategist On The GPU Is Wall Street’s New Real Estate Trade
    • Mike Dinsdale, CEO at Powerlaw

US Orders Anthropic to Disable Foreign Access to Mythos Jun 15, 2026

The people, companies and trends shaping the global economy. Watch Carol and Tim LIVE every day on YouTube: http://bit.ly/3vTiACF.
Anthropic PBC has disabled access to its most advanced artificial intelligence models, including Mythos, following an unprecedented order by the Trump administration to keep the technology out of the hands of all foreign nationals.
The US government told Anthropic to suspend access to the Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models by any foreign national “whether inside or outside the United States,” citing national security concerns, the company said in a statement. A US official confirmed the Commerce Department sent the letter. The model developer has since shut off access to both systems to all customers to ensure compliance.Never before has the US government taken such sweeping measures to rein in foreign access to frontier AI models developed by an American company.
Both the Trump and Biden administrations have limited access abroad to other consequential technologies such as semiconductors and supercomputers, and some have debated the merits of blocking access to AI models. But restrictions on the software itself have raised constitutional and commercial concerns.

NY Lawmakers Approve Final Budget That Includes Second-Home Tax Jun 15, 2026

Luxury buyers and sellers are recalculating in the wake of New York’s pied-à-terre tax. The majority-Democratic state legislature signed off on the remaining final budget legislation late Wednesday night, approving Gov. Kathy Hochul’s slate of policies she contends will improve affordability for New York residents. Hochul, a moderate Democrat, has been criticized by several progressive lawmakers who had split with the governor over her weakening of the state’s 2019 climate law and refusal to raise income and corporate tax rates. But top Manhattan broker Lisa Lippman believes the disruption will be temporary. A 29-year industry insider and the consistent number one broker at Brown Harris Stevens with more than $500 million in transaction volume in 2025 alone

How to Pay for College, From 529 Hacks to $12,000 Tokyo Tuition Jun 15, 2026

529 plans — tax-advantaged accounts for education expenses — are the go-to tool for college savers. Offered in nearly every state,2 they grow tax-deferred and allow tax-free withdrawals.3 They’re also preferable to custodial brokerage accounts, which count as a student’s assets and can hurt financial-aid eligibility.4 The biggest edge of a 529 is flexibility. A 529’s beneficiary can be changed easily, so parents or grandparents5 can open one before a child is born, then update the beneficiary later on. If one kid skips college, the account can be reassigned to another child — or even to yourself.

How AI-generated Tracks are Exploiting Streaming Platforms’ Royalty Systems Jun 12, 2026
    Show notes

The people, companies and trends shaping the global economy. Watch Carol and Tim LIVE every day on YouTube: http://bit.ly/3vTiACF.
Eighty-five percent of recorded music revenue in the U.S. now flows through streaming, and 100,000 AI-generated tracks are being uploaded to those platforms every single day. Because royalties come from a shared pool divided by total streams, every AI track added dilutes what human artists get paid. Napster was about unauthorized distribution — taking music without paying for it. AI goes further: it uses recorded performances to generate competing content that can displace the originals entirely. AI isn't the only threat to the royalty pool — AM/FM radio has operated the same way for decades, playing music without paying performers a cent. The American Music Fairness Act would close that loophole; session musicians, backup singers, and studio players deserve to be paid, the same way every streaming and satellite service already does. And the U.S. is one of the only countries in the world that doesn't require broadcasters to pay performers, so American artists forfeit overseas royalties that end up flowing to foreign artists instead. AMFA would fix that and keep American earnings in American pockets.
For more on AI generated music, Carol and Tim Stenovec spoke with Michael Huppe, President and CEO of SoundExchange, the organization designated by the U.S. government to administer digital performance royalties.
