141. The Case of the Smiling Sociopath Feb 16, 2020

Show notes

Young mother of two, Lynsey Quy went missing from the town of Southport, England in 1998. It was 53 days before a social worker reported her disappearance to the police. Her husband Mitchell claimed Lynsey had deserted him and their kids on Christmas Day.

He ran to every media outlet in the vicinity to throw himself a public pity party and denigrate her to the press. The police and Lynsey's family knew that Lynsey had died at the hands of her abusive husband. The problem was how they would find a way to prove her murder without a body.

If you feel you are affected by family violence. You are not alone. Here's some links.

139. Bushranger Mad Dog Morgan Feb 09, 2020

Show notes

Mad Dog Morgan was one of Australia’s most feared bushrangers. Resentful, bitter and bent on revenge after being wrongly convicted, Morgan terrorised the Australian countryside and was known for his erratic, violent and rambunctious behaviour.

His tendency toward impulsive cruelty and unpredictable mood swings earned him his title ‘Mad Dog’. Morgan would often brutally murder his victims, only to weep and beg for forgiveness as they lay dying in his arms.

Show notes

The Just Sweats Life Insurance Murder.

Dodgy Just Sweats business owners John Hawkins and Melvin Hanson had been cashing in on insurance scams since the early 1980's. After running their company into the ground with reckless spending, they came up with the scam to end all scams. They decided to take out over a million dollars in life insurance on Melvin Hanson, then fake his death for the insurance money. To do so, they convinced their friend and fellow con artist, Californian neurologist Dr Richard Boggs to join them in their scheme. Now all they needed was a dead man who resembled Melvin Hanson and they intended to find one, even if it meant killing him themselves.

136. The Unnoticed Murders of the Wycherley's and The Black Prince of Lygon Street Dec 08, 2019

Show notes

The Unnoticed Murders of the Wycherley's and The Black Prince of Lygon Street...

In October 2012, a woman called the Nottinghamshire police in England, to report that William and Patricia Wycherley had been killed 14 years earlier and she knew where their bodies were buried. If she was telling the truth, why had nobody reported the couple missing? And what did their daughter Susan Edwards and her husband Christoper have to do with it?

Alphonse “The Black Prince of Lygon Street” Gangitano has been described as a loving husband and father and as a vile gangster and murderer. From the 1970's right through to the late 90's, the Black Prince ruled over Carlton, brutalising it's residents with extortion, drug dealing and murder. Mate of Christopher “Mr Rent-to-Kill” Flannery, enemy of Mark “Chopper” Read, he was leader of the feared Carlton Crew which included members Graham “The Munster” Kinniburgh, Mario Condello, Mick Gatto and Jason and Mark Moran. Seemingly unstoppable, the prince went too far and couldn't predict his best friend would turn on him.

At 11pm, on the night of June 9th, 1994, Paul Curry called 911 and reported his wife Linda was unconscious and not breathing. When the paramedics arrived, they were unable to revive her. Linda Curry's cause of death was massive acute nicotine poisoning, but how did non-smoker Linda come to die in such a way?

133. The Objectifier and The Short Life of Edward Jockey Smith Nov 11, 2019

Show notes

The Objectifier and The Short Life of Edward Jockey Smith...

Sean Vincent Gillis was a serial killer who lived with his unsuspecting long-term girlfriend in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He used cable ties to incapacitate his victims, who ranged in age, race and socio-economic stature. This flew in the face of FBI profiling theories at the time, and allowed him to elude capture for over a decade.

Edward Jockey Smith was short of temper and of stature. A notorious tight ass, Eddie enjoyed a bit of shoplifting armed robbery, drug dealing and murder. His poor impulse control meant Eddie could turn a minor incident into a major spectacle. He was respected by the criminal fraternity, but his habit of waving a gun in peoples faces and shooting at police made him public enemy number one.

Show notes

The Welsh Dragon and The Cunning Fox...

Australian locksmith Paul Parsons was hoping for forever-afters when he married his second wife Donna, a wrestler from the UK who went by the stage name “The Welsh Dragon.” Unfortunately for Paul, Donna tired of their union and decided he was worth more to her dead than alive. So she hired an amatuer hitman who aspired to be a vigilant like his hero "the Crow."

Fitness fanatic Russell 'The Fox' Cox loved yoga and jogging. He also dug guns and robbing banks. What he didn't love was spending time in prison. After a daring escape from the unescapable Katingal in 1977, Russell spent nearly 11 years on the run, robbing banks up and down the eastern seaboard and even committing murder.

Show notes

Killer Con Woman Brenda Nicholas and Melbourne Mick Sayers...

Brenda Nicholas was a con artist and thief who preyed on elderly people. She often pretended to be a tarot reader named “Lady Monica,” who gained their trust before taking them for all they were worth. In 2011, she and her ragtag gang of petty criminals stabbed 70-year-old Navy veteran and two-time Purple Heart recipient Patrick Fleming to death, just so they could steal his valuable coin collection.

Lovable rogue Michael "Melbourne Mick" Sayers was always looking for the next sure thing. This chronic punter had a life-long pathological addiction to gambling. Mick had it so bad, he would bet on anything and do whatever it took to feed his habit, including race fixing, armed robbery, drug dealing and murder. Drinking buddies with the likes of Neddy Smith and Graham Henry, after the fixing of Fine Cotton, in the end all he had to wager was the last thing of value he had... his life.
