Scouse footballer and Liverpool fan speaks out on his battle with depression Jul 03, 2018
    Show notes

Kevin Ellison’s decision to speak out about his eight-year battle with depression....
... it’s a battle the boyhood Liverpool fan kept quiet from his family – and one that led him to leading a ‘double life’ and one that ultimately led to the breakdown of his relationship with the mother of his two children.
After seeking help, Kevin has been in a better place for some time now.
But it was only after seeing a number of fellow footballers do the same, like former Reds goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, and most recently, Crawley Town defender Mark Connolly, that he took the brave decision to open up publicly about the issues he’s faced.
It’s a decision that is helping him personally and, as he candidly explains in this podcast, it’s a decision that is leading other players, along with fans, to get in touch with him to ask for his advice.
We also speak about Kevin’s enduring passion for the game, which will see him play until he is 40 at least, and what it was like growing up on Breck Road and standing on the Kop, watching his Liverpool heroes, one of whom he went on to play for. Pre-season is discussed in detail with James offering the thoughts behind Jurgen Klopp's plans for training and friendlies, while Paul gives his opinion on who will be desperate to impress the Reds boss during the summer.
We then hear the latest on Klopp's assistant coach Zeljko Buvac from James, who discusses the role Pep Lijnders could play going forward.

Hirving Lozano, Diego Godin and how the World Cup is impacting Liverpool's transfer business Jun 29, 2018
    Show notes

What players at the World Cup would you like to see Liverpool sign in the summer transfer window?
That was the question taken on by Paul Gorst and Kristian Walsh in a Blood Red podcast special.
With the transfer silly season well and truly underway in the summer window, we allowed ourselves to indulge in a bit of fantasy football of our own as we picked out five names each of players who have caught the eye in Russia.
We debate and discuss the names and their suitability for Jurgen Klopp's Reds, and also look ahead toward pre-season training, which begins on Monday.
There's passionate cases made for Diego Godin, Dries Mertens and Julian Brandt, and Paul and Kristian agree that Mexico's Hirving Lozano would be an ideal fit for the Reds.
    It's transfer tennis - and it's a must-listen.

Nabil Fekir, transfer deadline day and football reporting in the social media age Jun 28, 2018
    Show notes

The days of waiting to pick up a copy of the ECHO to find out the latest Liverpool transfer news have long gone.
The internet changed that and, for our latest Anfield+ podcast, hosted by Paul Wheelock and featuring Joe Rimmer, Sean Bradbury and ECHO old boy Greg O’Keeffe, we lift the curtain to reveal how we cover the Reds in the social media age.
Particular emphasis is placed on transfers and why the Nabil Fekir saga encapsulated the ‘head-spinning’ nature of the modern-day deal.
Joe, Sean and Greg also offer an insight into what it is like being a reporter on transfer deadline day and why the arrival of Andy Carroll at Anfield moments before the 2011 January window shut was a precursor for things to come.
That leads Joe, Sean and Greg into examining how social media has changed the relationship and dynamic between the ECHO and supporters – and the clubs we cover, too.
It’s a fascinating listen. Enjoy. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

Does the Premier League realise how good Naby Keita is? Liverpool’s new signing discussed Jun 27, 2018
    Show notes

Host Neil Fitzmaurice is joined by regular sidekicks Joe Rimmer and Dan Kay for the latest episode of the unmissable Poetry in Motion podcast.
With the World Cup in full swing, events in Russia feature heavily, including Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson’s performances for England, as well as VAR.
Talk then turns to transfers and whether Hakim Ziyech should be on Jurgen Klopp’s shopping list and, if not, should the Reds boss go back in for Nabil Fekir.
One player definitely through the door at Anfield is Naby Keita, who will officially become a Liverpool player this weekend. Fitzy, Joe and Dan cannot wait to see the £52.7m midfielder in action and wonder whether the Premier League knows just quite what is about to hit it.
Safe standing in English football – and this week’s development in parliament – is then discussed.
And another brilliant pods finishes where it started – with the World Cup, and England’s chances.

    Show notes

The World Cup might be in full swing but movement has started within the corridors of Melwood. Host Kristian Walsh is joined by James Pearce and Paul Gorst as they focus on the potential incomings and outgoings of Liverpool's forward line, with the futures of Danny Ings and Divock Origi up in the air. Excitement grows over Naby Keita's imminent arrival, while questions persist over the Nabil Fekir deal and what Liverpool - and Lyon - will do next. There is also reflection on Mohamed Salah's month to forget and how Sadio Mane could become public enemy no.1. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

Mo Salah, a new name in the goalkeeper search, and Liverpool’s relationship with the England national team Jun 23, 2018
    Show notes

World Cup talk dominates the latest episode of the brilliant Allez Les Rouges podcast.
Host Peter Hooton and regulars Kieth Culvin and John Nicolson discuss the Liverpool players currently representing their countries in Russia including Dejan Lovren, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah.
The lads hope Salah will be rested for the final group game – and debate the lengths leaders and figures will go to use sport for political gain after Chechnya leader Ramzan Kadyrov made a beeline for the Reds hero at Egypt’s questionable choice of training base.
Peter, Kieth and John were impressed by England in their opening match – and, unlike Martin Keown, particularly the performance produced by Jordan Henderson.
That leads on to a fascinating and lengthy discussion about Liverpool supporters’ relationship with the national team.
VAR, Emre Can, Jon Flanagan and Nail Fekir all get a mention before the focus turns to the Reds’ search for a goalkeeper – with a new target, who is in World Cup action, thrown into the mix.
It’s another superb listen. Enjoy. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

Alisson, Oblak, Fekir and Liverpool's transfer questions answered Jun 21, 2018
    Show notes

After three long weeks, James Pearce is back in action.
And with him he brings plenty of transfer updates in a very special edition of the Blood Red podcast.
James is joined by Joe Rimmer and Kristian Walsh to answer fan questions on Jan Oblak, Alisson Becker, Nabil Fekir and much more.
Before that there's plenty of chat about Fekir, what went wrong for Liverpool during that transfer, and whether Jurgen Klopp will seek an alternative.
The lads discuss the World Cup, who has caught the eye, and give their tips for a winner.
And then there's a long discussion on Jordan Henderson and why he receives so much criticism from certain supporters. James and Kristian think Henderson is massively underrated.
There's also updates on Jon Flanagan and Emre Can after both players signed with new clubs this week.

Why Liverpool need to bite the bullet and spend big on a goalkeeper – and the Shaqiri no-brainer Jun 14, 2018
    Show notes

Liverpool’s Premier League fixtures are out and the World Cup may be about to kick-off.
But our latest episode of Poetry in Motion with Neil Fitzmaurice is mainly concerned with one thing – transfers.
Yes, who the Reds will be facing in 2018-19, and events in Russia do get a mention, but the bulk of the talk in another unmissable podcast centres on who Jurgen Klopp should sign next.
Fitzy is joined by Joe Rimmer and Dan Kay and they are all in agreement that Klopp should bite the bullet and spend big on a goalkeeper like Jan Oblak.
But if the Liverpool boss prefers to splash most of his transfer kitty elsewhere, Joe offers up a no less high-profile alternative.
The Reds would not be breaking the bank if they moved for Xherdan Shaqiri, and while some supporters have reservations about the Stoke winger, Fitzy and Co have no doubts.
Christian Pulisic, Jamie Vardy and – naturally – Nabil Fekir also get a mention.
And it goes without saying that the lads pay tribute to the newly knighted, Sir Kenny Dalglish.
