    Black Love: The Interviews

“Black Love,” from filmmakers Codie Elaine Oliver and Tommy Oliver, displays “the other side of love that exists, that no one is showing”. Focusing on real couples from all walks of life and celebrity couples, the docu-series shares honest, emotional and sometimes cringe-worthy always-true love stories. The couples talk about how their relationships began, the road to the altar, life after children and all of the other obstacles they may have faced to make their marriages stronger than ever. For the first time, the long form interviews from each couple are being presented with new insights from Codie Elaine Oliver to provide a new experience for those familiar or new to the series.

    CW: Abuse, Drug Use.

This episode deals with heavy topics as noted in the content warning. Please do not listen to this episode if you find either of those topics triggering.

    ---

April and Troy come from very different backgrounds. Troy was heavily involved in the drug game while April was involved in church. Even when everyone tried to convince April to give up on Troy, before and during marriage, she stayed with him because of her faith in God. Outside of Troy's affiliation with the drug life, the two also struggled with infidelity and abuse. However, knowing that there was a reason God had placed April in Troy's life, that was enough for her to keep fighting for the relationship and eventually Troy gained his own relationship with God. The Lawrence's also discuss the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 while living in Louisiana and how that was an added stressor on the relationship and their family dynamic as a whole. Though they've been through a lot, they somehow continue to find a way to push forward.
