An Interview Author Anika Orrock on "The Incredible Women of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League" Mar 09, 2020
    Show notes

There's certainly more to the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League than one Tom Hanks movie (although the movie itself is incredible).

Author/Illustrator Anika Orrock joins Big Screen Sports to discuss her new book, ""The Incredible Women of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League" which chronicles the story of the 1940's professional baseball league that inspired the classic baseball film. We talk about her unique artistic style, the future for women in baseball, and of course spend a lot of time breaking down our favorite things about "A League of Their Own."

Go buy Anika's book, dropping on Tuesday March 10th! You can check it out on her website or wherever books are sold. Follow Anika on Twitter and Instagram @anikadrawls.

"Celtic Pride" with Brandon Wenerd (BroBible, @bwenerd) Mar 02, 2020
    Show notes

Much like the 2004 Lakers, on paper "Celtic Pride" had all the ingredients for a perfect comedic sports movie. Judd Apatow & Colin Quinn behind the scenes; Dan Aykroyd, Daniel Stern, and Damon Wayans as the lead rolls.

Sometimes things just don't work out as planned. BroBible's Brandon Wenerd returns to Big Screen Sports (following last year's episode on Varsity Blues) to dissect what went wrong with "Celtic Pride."

He and Kyle will talk what makes a believable Boston sports fan, low stakes basketball action, and if the movie would've been improved by throwing the main characters in prison. They'll cover Best Scenes (there aren't many), what worked about the film (not much), and what didn't work (a ton).

"The Pride of the Yankees" with Andrew Rotondi (@Andrew_Rotondi of @BronxPinstripes) Feb 24, 2020
    Show notes

If this podcast was around in 1942, "The Pride of the Yankees" might be considered a Hall of Fame baseball movie that features incredible baseball action.

However it's 2020 and with 80 years of hindsight, not so much. Andrew Rotondi of Bronx Pinstripes joins Big Screen Sports to break down the Lou Gehrig biopic. He and host Kyle Bandujo try to step into the shoes of 1942 movie goers and discuss the baseball action, the angelic depiction of Lou Gehrig, and the performance of Gary Cooper as the recently deceased Gehrig. They'll pick best scenes, discuss a problematic mother-son relationship, and analyze the athleticism of Gary Cooper.

They'll also get into some bonus Yankees-Twins talk at the end of the episode, so tune in for that.

"Chariots of Fire" with JR Hickey (@JRwilldoit) Feb 10, 2020
    Show notes

Few sports movies have garnered serious Oscar hype, and fewer have won Best Picture. "Chariots of Fire," the 1982 winner for Best Picture, isn't your typical sports movie. But, for the sake of this podcast, that might not be the best thing.

JR Hickey returns to Big Screen Sports to break down a movie that might be better for awards season than it is for sports season. He and Kyle talk running style, buzzkill siblings, and extreme examples of British politeness.

They'll discuss where "Chariots of Fire" falls on the sports movie scale & where the movie did an excellent job of being authentic in regards to the sport of track & field.
