    Beyond the Scope

    Beyond The Scope, a new podcast by the Digital Pathology Association, focuses on hot topics in digital pathology. Co-hosts Dr. Giovanni Lujan (OSUWMC) and Dr. David Tulman (Instapath) converse with key opinion leaders in an engaging format discussing all of the new research, technology, and workflows emerging in digital pathology. Beyond The Scope aims to cover specific topics ranging from artificial intelligence to computational pathology, whole slide imaging to in/ex-vivo microscopy, regulation and commercialization, and more!     Michael Quick is a cytologost currently serving as the VP of R&D and Innovation for Cytology and Oncology at Hologic and the 2024 DPA President. Mike shares his background as a cytologist and how it led to a career focused on innovation in the digital pathology industry. Hologic has grown into the digital pathology and laboratory industry, and we discuss motivations for expansion of a large company into new areas of medicine. Finally, we feature an interview from Pathology Visions 2024 where Mike reflects on the conference and accomplishments as DPA President.

    Dr. Chris Garcia is a pathologist and serves as the Medical Director in the division of computational pathology and artificial intelligence at the Mayo Clinic.     Staci Kearney PhD is the founder and CEO of Elevation Strategic Consulting, a firm that provides regulatory assistance to digital pathology companies. In May 2024, The FDA ruled that Laboratory Developed Tests (LDTs) will be regulated as medical devices with FDA oversight in the coming years.     Dr. Muhammad Aslam is a consultant pathologist and Clinical Director for North Wales Diagnostic and Specialist Clinical Services. He joins Beyond the Scope to discuss the success of pathology digitization in his region of Wales and the current state of affairs of digital pathology adoption in the UK as a whole. The primary discussion revolves around all of the advantages digital pathology technologies are actively providing to pathologists and other specialties in Wales. Finally, Dr. Aslam discusses his initiatives to use artificial intelligence as an aid to diagnosis of prostate, breast, and lung disease.
