Episode 024: From Genesis To Revelation w/ Tom Marshall (Pt I) Feb 06, 2018
    Show notes

In Episode 024, we sit down with Tom Marshall — Phish lyricist & longtime friend of Trey Anastasio — for a wide-ranging discussion about his songwriting, his musical influences, and the stories behind a number of great Phish songs.

Part I focuses on Tom’s impressions of Phish at this point during 3.0, as well as some of our burning questions for him. We discuss the music that Tom got into during the Phish break-up of 2004–2009. We also lay the groundwork for our lengthy conversation in Part II. Finally, we discuss one of our favorite songs of Phish 3.0 — “Mercury” — and are treated to an unreleased demo of the song.

Songs featured in this episode are:

David Bowie: “TVC51,” Phish: “You Sexy Thing” (07/28/17), “Lawn Boy” (07/25/17), “Sparkle,” “Punch You In The Eye” (12/11/97), Gillian Welch: “I Wanna Sing That Rock & Roll,” Steve Earle: “Galway Girl,” “Steve’s Last Ramble,” Turnpike Troubadours: “The Bird Hunters,” The Beatles: “Baby’s In Black,” “Octopus’s Garden,” Phish: “Light” (09/04/16), “Mercury” (Demo Unreleased) (10/29/16), King Crimson: “Easy Money.”

    Show notes

In Episode 023, we take a step back to Spring 1993 to discuss the Weekapaug Groove from 04/02/1993 in Bellingham, Washington. Nils Frahm: “Down Down,”

    Low Cut Connie: “Boozophilia,”

PJ Harvey: “Send His Love To Me,” and
